• Fatal Crash in Rock County
  

  On August 11, 2010 at 9:06PM, deputies from the Rock County Sheriffa s Office and Green County Sheriffa s Office, along with Brodhead and Orfordville Fire/EMS, responded to a Semi Tractor versus car traffic crash that occurred on W. STH 81 approximately three-tenths of a mile east of S. Avon Store Road.

  The portion of Highway 81 that intersects Avon Store Road southwest of Orfordville will be closed for about two hours as police and EMS respond to a head-on collision there.

City Description

Orfordville is a village in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States, at the intersection of Highway 11, Highway 213, and the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad. The population was 1,272 at the census, with an estimated population of 1,302 in 2003. The origin of its name came when a surveyor suggested Orford after a town in New Hampshire. It remained that until the establishment of a post office, when it was confused with Oxford, Wisconsin. The name was then changed to Ordfordville at the suggestion of the postmaster general. Orfordville is the home of the Parkview School District's high school, Parkview High School sometimes referred to as Orfordville-Parkview. Orfordville is located at 42°37′45″N 89°15′24″W / 42.62917°N 89.25667°W / 42.62917; -89.25667 (42.629300, -89.256755). The elevation is 889 feet (271 m). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.0 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,272 people, 455 households, and 348 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,093.5 people per square mile (423.4/km²).
