City DescriptionBrodhead is a city in Green and Rock Counties in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 3,180 at the 2000 census. In February 2000, the city annexed a portion of land from the Town of Spring Valley in Rock County.
Just south of town is a historic marker for the Half-Way Tree, a bur oak supposedly identified by Native Americans as the halfway point on a foot trail between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River.
Brodhead is located at 42°37′7″N 89°22′35″W / 42.61861°N 89.37639°W / 42.61861; -89.37639 (42.618540, -89.376291).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,180 people, 1,301 households, and 876 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,956.1 people per square mile (753.3/km²). There were 1,355 housing units at an average density of 833.5/sq mi (321.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.05% White, 0.28% African American, 0.03% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.53% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.97% of the population.
