where is the best place to live in Oregon or Washington that has good weather, near a college and is quaint? Question: I'm looking for a cute town like Chico, CA that is in Oregon or Washington for retirement. Good weather, close to a college with lots of charm.
Answer:
The person that said Ashland is right. I've lived in Oregon my whole life - went to college in Eugene, grew up in Portland and spent some time in southern Oregon too. Eugene is a fun place when you're 19, but not as much as when you are 62. It is a very liberal town - they call it Berkley North. Um, Coos Bay? Are you kidding me? My hub is from there. Not quaint, no no no, it's a fine place to visit, not quaint by a mile.
Ashland is very quaint. Very popular Shakespearean Festival held there each summer. The weather is perfect, air is clean, great restaurants. It's definitely a great place to look into. The other place to consider, which is also wonderful is Bend, Oregon. (Not to be confused with North Bend) Bend has been a hotspot for retirement (nice neighbors just moved there.) Weather is also wonderful, skiing just yards away. It is a high desert so summers are warm in the day and nicely cool at night. I don't know if I'd consider Bend quaint anymore as it has grown a lot over the past 15 years, but it would also be a wonderful place to retire. You should look into both cities and take a visit to get a better sense of each. Welcome to Oregon. . .

Looking for a place to live around washington D.C. for college grads, near nightlife? Question: I just graduated college, and am getting a full-time job in D.C. I wanted to be able to go out on the weekends and was wondering where all the nightlife was located so I know where to look for housing.
Answer:
I suggest looking at Arlington (especially around the Clarendon area). It's an expensive place to live but you'd have easy access to Metro and a pretty good night life too. I might also suggest Georgetown, but that would be really expensive and no Metro access (buses, sure, but not the subway). Bethesda might be another good option for you too.

Is the University of Washington a good place......? Question: ...for a Law degree? I'm only fifteen years old and I want to become a lawyer when I grow up. I would like to get a Masters degree in it (is this possible?). I would like to stay within washington for college. so is University of Washington an ideal place for a law degree? Please tell me all the information you know about this, thanks in advance!
also I would REALLY like to know what a years tuition is with OUT boarding.
Answer:
U of Washington is a fine school. There are about 300 colleges in the US, and UW is probably in the top 50 somewhere.
You probably want to visit the school's website to find out details about admissions, costs, and the law degree.
By the way, usually Law Schools are post-graduate. That means you go for a BA first in some subject such as English or Mathematics. Then you go on for more years to obtain a Law degree.

Safe place to live in Washington DC and close to Smithsonian? Question: Hi,
I got a internship at the Smithsonian for the summer and I was wondering how safe that general area was. Also, I need to find a place to live close to the Smithsonian and I was wondering what a good location was (better answers if available on a college budget!)
Thanks!
Answer:
Try to find a small place in Georgetown, it's pretty safe and not too far from the Smithsonian buildings.

Is Washington Heights safe for white college students? Question: My girlfriend and I just moved to the 193rd street/Audubon Ave area of Washington Heights, right near the high school and close to the big hill that takes you down into Inwood (about the only place we could afford). Nobody has given me any problems so far, but I was just wondering if I'm setting myself up for trouble or will I be safe in this neighborhood?
I'm not trying to be racist at all. I don't have a problem with the hispanics...(If I did I wouldnt have moved here, duh!) but I'm just wondering if they will have a problem with me. People always get defensive if they feel the ethnic vibe of their neighborhood is being threatened.
Answer:
I know quite a few white and asian people who have lived in WH for years without incident. Take the initiative to introduce yourself to some of your new neighbors (in spanish if appropriate) so that they know you're not an a_____, and so that you'll have people looking out for you in the event of an attempted robbery or something like that.

What is the best place to shovel snow in Washington DC? Question: I'm a college student trying to make some money during the winter season, and this afternoon, I tried to shovel some snow in Northwest neighborhoods but didn't have any luck. I think that one of the problems was that the snow was light and it turned to rain quickly. The other problem was that many people already had companies contracted to shovel their property. Could you also give me the best day, time, and weather conditions? Thanks!!
Answer:
Try going to local small business, like a strip mall or something small, but, you might want to invest in a snow blower, because doing shoveling by manual labor, you will get tired.
Go also to small Dr.'s offices.
Go before it snows. Go like in Nov. and let them know of your interests. Now, many business owners do have a contract with a bigger company.

Are there any areas around Washington D.C. that are prettier than Texas? Question: I am a highschool student in Texas, and I'm trying to decide where I want to go to college. Washington sounds like a place I might like to move. I think that it would be cool to be close to our nations capitol, the whitehouse and all of the historical places around there, but I want to move to a place w/pretty scenery and I want to be in a safe place. Thank you!
Answer:
The city is beautiful - lots of old architecture, both buildings and homes. Then there is the river, and the mountains, all very close. There's a parkway across the river with lots of scenic views from cliffs, and minutes away is Great Falls, which is one of the most spectacular waterfalls on the East Coast. You've got the Cherry Blossoms in the spring, which millions of people come to see, and the rest of the trees all bloom in spring too all over the place. In fall there is great color in the turning leaves everywhere. And most of it is safe.
Some photos of Great Falls. This is located just a mile outside the Beltway, about 10 miles outside downtown DC:

Bikini waxing in or near College Park, MD/Washington, D.C.? Question: Hello, I am looking for a reputable salon in the College Park, MD/Washington, D.C. area that specializes in bikini waxing (especially for first timers). Does anyone know of such a place, and if so, where are they located, do they have a website, and is there a technician you especially recommend? Thanks.
Answer:
don't go anywhere in college park, they're not professionals and, although cheap, you get what you pay for. I'd recommend the last tangle salon in dc, it's on 19th st nw, very easy by the metro. also there's the elizabeth arden spa, a little pricey, but it was the best wax i ever got. very clean and very professional. that one is on U street.
if you google their address, then put that into metro directions or driving directions you should be ok

Nice place to live near Washington DC? Might be moving soon.? Question: Possible moving to DC area?
I am looking into taking a job in the Washington DC. area. I would be working out of my home. I have only visited DC a couople of times, but unerstand that crime is really bad in some areas. I live in FL now, so this will be a big change for me. I am 23 years old and single. I want to live in a safe place that is inexpensive and where I can meet college age students easily. Any suggestions? I am open to parts of VA and MD as well. Thanks for your help.
Answer:
The worst areas in general are southeast DC, P.G. county Maryland (though it has many good areas), and northeast DC. You can feel safe in most of the DC area.
The college park area is mostly black, but not a high crime area. The area around George Mason is nice, but may be too expensive. Arlington may be your best bet for low crime and a younger crowd, but you'd probably have to get a condo--that's a somewhat expensive area.
Unfortuanately, it is hard to generalize about the area. Southeast may be one of the highest crime areas around here, but it still has some streets and one neighborhood you can feel safe in. I live near Route 1 in Alexandria, and you really can't generalize about it--you'll have a bad neighborhood near a good neighborhood--there is no general rule like stay on the east side or anything. I think you'll have to come down here and shop around--it's a tough area to make generalizations about and realtors are limited on the information they can give you.

Are any college in Wyoming that has filmmaking? Question: I only want information on colleges in Wyoming only. I've already tried Ai in Washington... and other places. I want to know if there is any college in Wyoming with film or video and such. Thanks.
Answer:
No. Sorry. I'm a student interested in film and there are no schools in Wyoming. The closest places are University of Colorado--Denver and University of Utah.
University of Wyoming does have some film studies classes and if you are interested in writing they have a play/screen writing part of the theater degree and a creative writing minor.

or can you reccommend a site where we could find Community colleges that offer architecture and accounting that'd be great.

Are the cities around Washington DC, nice places to live? Question: I'm in college and the career I want will most likely have me relocating from Idaho to the east coast, probably in or around Washington, DC.
I was just wondering where are some nice places to live that are a short drive from DC? Also what is it like there? High crime? Lots of trashy people?
Answer:
There are quite a few nice places to live around DC. I prefer Arlington. I would not want to live anywhere to far out, the traffic is extremely bad and the money you may save on housing you lose paying for gas to sit in traffic. Arlington is kind of divided into different areas, Crystal City/Pentagon City, Ballston, Rosslyn. Myself I prefer the Crystal City/Pentagon City area. All of these areas are served by Metro (the subway) so no problem commuting in.
As far as what it's like there. There is a lot to do, so don't worry about that. The weather in the winter is not real bad, cold but not real cold compared Idaho. The summer can be somewhat hot, not extreme like Texas. Overall not terrible weather. Parts of DC and Maryland do have violent areas, for the most part places like Alexandria and Arlington the crime is not bad. Lived in both Arlington for 7 years and never had a problem. As far as trashy people, I don't think so, most people are highly educated compared to many other cities.

Need a place to board my horse during college!? Question: I am a prospective WSU student, so i need to find a place near Pullman washington( less than a twenty minute drive) to keep my thoroughbred mare at. It has to be fairly cheap, like less than 300 dollars a month, and it needs to have full care, great feed, and somewhere to ride at. I dont need anything fancy, just a clean, well kept place for my baby! If you own a place, i am willing to work off part of the boarding fee on weekends. I dont want to have to sell her before i go, so any help would be appreciated!!! Does anyone know if there is a boarding facility that the university uses?
Thanks!
Answer:
Back in the day, myself included, several of my girlfriends were in the same position. What we did was take drives in the country around our schools and apartments. I drove up the driveways to lots of farms that had horses and just asked them.
Word to the wise. YOU are not the first to approach them , in many cases. College student horse owners don't have the best of reputations for reliability. It is understandable that you are in the prime of your life and learning and living. Make sure you keep your commitment to the care of your horse. If you cant, be real and either lease her or sell her if you can find a suitable person.
good luck, its not easy , but it can be done.

Is D.C. a good place to be if you're a young, college graduate? Question: I'm 21 & just graduated from college? I majored in Business/HRM & I've been offered a job in the D.C. area. Would you or would you not recommend Washington, D.C. as a good city for a young, college-educated black woman?
Answer:
I would recommend it (I'm a 23 year old black man that will graduate college next week). There's nightlife, parks, museums, and shopping. Georgetown and Dupont Circle are the trendiest areas in the city. I'm not going to lie-rent may be a problem. However, if you think this job will turn into a career I'd go for it. The only caveat is that there are bad areas of DC (particularly the SE like Anacostia). The actual downtown area near the National Mall is safe. If you use common sense you'll be ok.

Confederate Flags are not PC. Should Robert E. Lee's Grave be Kicked off of Washington & Lee College Campus? Question: Libs wanted us to get rid of confederate flags and symbols at state capitols.
Should we do something to remove Robert E Lee from every possible treatment of being a hero to the South? What would be proper?
Do black kids at Washington & Lee have to suffer the appalling treatment of having a special place for the grave of the South's most famous general --- a man who fought to keep slavery alive?
What would Wright and Farrakhan say we should do with Robert E. Lee's grave and memories?
Rachel,
Should Libs denounce any ties to W & L College?
Answer:
Washington and Lee is a PRIVATE University. Why would the government interfere?
Edit: It's about choice isn't it?

Good university in Washington or the vicinity? Question: I would love to move to an area in the U.S. where it rains all the time. I have been told that Washington is the best place for me. So, does anyone know of a good college in the area? I am currently set on being a research scientist...maybe a medical research scientist, but I'm still deciding. So I'm not too picky about the classes at the moment. Any recommendations? Thanks for your time!
Answer:
Washington University and Washington State are both very good schools.
I don't mean to scare you or anything but Seattle does have the highest suicide rate in the US, because of all of the dreary weather. Just something worth knowing, I suppose.
Edit:
Oh. If you're talking about Washington DC, go with the first guy's answer. I just figured you meant Washington state because of the rain comment.

I want to be a pilot, however I do NOT know if I have to go to college to be one; If not were can I go...? Question: I want to be a pilot, however I do NOT know if I have to go to college to be one; If not were can I find a place to learn how to be a pilot in the United States…better if it is near Virginia or Washington DC….. Thanks
Answer:
What kind of a pilot?
Did you look into what it costs?
If you want to fly for the military you'll need college.
If your internet is not working, perhaps you can go to those big thick "yellow pages", go to the section on instruction or education or aviation.
Talk to you're school counselors about career choices.
I am only guessing, but based on the questions you're asking, you must not yet be in HS.
