Chehalis Classifieds Local classifieds for Chehalis, WA
City DescriptionChehalis (pronounced /ʃəˈheɪlɨs/) ( just say :sha (like shut) Hay Liss) is a city in Lewis County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,057 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Lewis County.
Chehalis began as a settlement around a warehouse beside a railroad track in 1873, when the Northern Pacific Railroad built northward from Kalama to Tacoma, and ignored Claquato, then the county seat three miles to the west. Some settlers decided that, if the railroad would not go to the county seat, the county seat must go to the railroad. By 1874, a store was added to the warehouse, several houses were constructed, and the county seat was moved to the new settlement, leaving Claquato little more than a historical landmark. The new town was first named Saundersville, for S.S. Saunders, on whose donation land claim it was founded. In 1879, the name was changed to Chehalis. Chehalis was officially incorporated on November 23, 1883.
Logging soon began in the near-by forests. Lumber workers of Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon, and Scots-Irish descent arrived, and remained to settle in the neighboring valleys. In 1940, the chief local industries were: dairying, poultry raising, fruit ... Read MoreCity Contained By:Timezones:Size:

How must I LEGALLY change my last name in Washington State?? Question: hi, ok, my last name is REALLY long, and NO ONE can pronounce it correctly, I need to know the fee if one applies, to change only my last name, I live near Chehalis, washington state, and I really need to know this stuff! please let me know!!! ps, I know you have to file some sort of petition with the courts, but I need more info then that!! thank you!!
Answer:
I don't know the details in Washington, but the process is similar in most states. You go to the local court and fill out a form. You are usually required to publish your intent in one or more major papers for a set period of time. If no one challenges the change in that time, you pay a fee and your name is changed. As long as the court has no reason to believe you are changing your name for fraudulent reasons, it is normally a formality.

how do I find out who my real parents are? Question: I was adopted in the early sixties in chehalis washington I was also born in the same time period.
Answer:
Check online adoption websites where you can search info from those looking for children given up for adoption. You can also post your birth year & "non-identifying " information on some of these sites and maybe it will jar someone's memory . Don't put all your info on these sites because there are those scamming adoptees . If you know what agency you were adopted at , contact them to see if there is a letter in your former file . If you are Catholic, for instance , call Catholic Charities ..and so on .

Does anyone know of any certain dog rescue groups in the Washington area?? Question: I'm having problems finding certain dog breed rescue groups in the Washington area.(Chehalis,Centralia,Oregon,Seattle,..etc.)I'm searching for one of these breeds:
*Clumber Spaniel
*Whippet
*English Bulldog
I'm looking for a purebred, not a mixed breed.I know that mutts can make wonderful,I know,I've had mutts all my life and they've been fantastic, but I'd like the experience of owning a purebred. If you know of any of rescue groups in this particular area, for any of these breeds, please let me know. Thanks!
I've had experience with ALL of these breeds,I've done my homework on all of them, and I'm just trying to make a decision on which one I want.I've also been showing dogs in showmanship and obedience for 6 years now.I'm not an expert on dogs, but I'm not clueless either.
Answer:
http://www.petfinder.com
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm (lists rescue groups for each breed)
And don't forget to turn in applications with each of these groups so that you can have first dibs on the dogs that come in. I know that our rescue group doesn't always list the dogs we have because they go first to homes we've already approved.
And don't be afraid to contact good breeders and put in a word with them. They take back any dog that they've bred that no longer can be kept by the new owner, and they rehome retired show dogs and the likes. Lots of great dogs come this way.
I do have to say that these are 3 very different breeds. A Whippet and a Bulldog are polar opposites. And the Clumber? Even more different. This just sits funny. To me, this is like saying "I'm trying to choose between 3 cars. A Ferrari, an H3, and a Dodge Minivan."

More Canine Brucellosis in Washington info from craigslist? Question: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/CanineRepro-PuppyCare/post?pos tID=570i_-y0j8_xfSr4-5RoaIO4q4nZ66E_vr3xSXJpOdiv_wUgW3AP9oQABakA- zqFn0DSSFoFQ1JhAJ0QMxur8g>;
*City Government and Health reporter*
The Lewis County Health Department is warning anyone who has purchased
or adopted a dog from a rural Lewis County woman, to have that dog tested
for canine brucellosis, a dangerous bacterial infection.
According to the health department, a dog owned by a dog breeder and
rescuer tested positive for the disease earlier this week. A total of
four dogs are believed to have the disease, as of this morning.
Because the infected dogs were in close contact with more than 110 dogs,
it is very likely more dogs are infected with the disease.
And, because the breeder kept no records, there is no way to predict how
many more dogs with the disease have been sold.
This breeder, who lives in the Ethel-Toledo area, sells several breeds
of purebred and "designer" mixed breeds, including pugles (beagle-pug
mix) and terrier-Chihuahua mixes. In addition, she rescues dogs of all
breeds and adopts them out.
All of the 110 dogs on her property have been tested for the disease,
but the health department is advising anyone who may have bought or
adopted a dog since mid-February to have the animal tested by a
veterinarian.
At-risk dogs were sold along state Route 508 near Mary's Corner, on U.S.
Highway 12 at or near the Ethel Market, or from a parking lot at
Interstate 5 exit 79 in Chehalis. The breeder's identity is
confidential, as she has done nothing illegal. She is described as a
woman in her 20's or 30's. She sells the dogs out of a red car.
The Department of Agriculture has quarantined the breeder's property and
she is forbidden to sell, give away, or otherwise remove any of the
animals now there, said Kathleen Eussen, health department director.
Canine brucellosis is a bacterial infection that causes abortions and
infertility in females, and reproductive problems and infertility in
males. Because treatment is rarely successful in dogs, it is recommended
that dogs with the disease be euthanized. Symptoms may be unnoticed in
females, but males may have testicular swelling and infections. Other
possible symptoms include lethargy, loss of libido, premature aging and
swollen lymph nodes, according to the International Veterinary
Information Service.
The disease, which may be transmitted to humans, is very rare in Washington.
For information, telephone a veterinarian or the health department at
740-1222.

Anybody have info on the storms on the Oregon and Washington Coasts? I got family and friends up there!? Question: Over the last weekend, for y'all who ain't heard, us over here in Oregon, as well as Washington, god pounded. Floods and debris everywhere. So far, from what I've heard, all highways going to the area (U.S. Highway 26, U.S. 101, U.S. 30, and U.S. 20, Oregon State Routes 47, 53, 18, 99W, 22, 34, 38, 42, 42S, and 202, as well as Washington State Route 514, and U.S. 12) are all shut down. I've got numerous friends and family up there, and not being able to contact anybody up there (due to downed power and phone lines, plus damaged cell phone towers) is driving me batty. Anybody who has info about the coast over there in Seaside (OR), Coos Bay (OR), Astoria (OR), Vernonia (OR, the hardest hit of the towns), Olney (OR), Jewell (OR), Warrenton (OR), Reedsport (OR), Lincoln City (OR), Hammond (OR), Chinook (WA), Seattle (WA), Bellevue (WA), Chehalis (WA), Auburn (WA), Ilwaco (WA), Long Beach (WA), or Grays Harbor (WA), please notify me. I'm going nuts.
God Bless, and Happy Holidays!
Answer:
I live 40 miles west of seaside and tillamook. The water has receded quite a bit already since monday morning. Most everyone was landlocked by the high water. The power has been out for the hardest hit because of the trees that have come down. The entire coast region is still out of power. All the schools are closed still for tomorrow,(tues). I only saw one news report of a house possibly falling into a creek in salem area but that was it. I believe that everyone is okay. The road crews are really making fast progress on clearing debris and the electrical crews are hard at work. Just be patient and let a couple days for the power and cleanup crews to catch up some and water to receed.. It rained hard for two days. There was snow pack on the coast range and the cascade range that really added to the flooding. The 96 flood was alot worse than this was. Keep calling your friends and family. You'll get through I'm sure by the end of the week. You can try to log on to Katu.com and Kptv.com. Those are the local channels for this area. Good luck.

Answer:
It's not that bad:). If you're in to snowboarding or skiing, you'll be happy to know that Washington has a LOT of snow. Seattle's pretty cool too. You could check out the Space Needle and the area around it. If you're into cars, during the summer there are a few car show including a drift race. It can be pretty rainy here, but the weather isn't too harsh. You'll have fun.

WARNING TO NEW DOG OWNERS, esp in washington state:? Question: I have read that the Lewis County Health Dept. has alerted pet owners and potential pet owners of an outbreak of Canine Brucellosis in Lewis County. Look it up on the web to find out about this disease. Call the Health Dept. if you have concerns about an animal you have bought or human health conerns for immuno suppressed humans in contact with these poor dogs.
The breeder is known to sell puppies out of a red vehicle on the roadside along Hwy 508 near Mary's corner, Hwy 12, at the Ethel Market area, and in parking lots of businesses off I5 at exit #79 in Chehalis. Any dog obtained from this person since mid Feb 07 are potentially at risk.
This is a sad situation and should remind everyone to check out the breeder's premises and dogs on site, as well as the vet check. Not all dogs will show signs immediately.
http://www.wildsidekennels.com/articles/brucellos is.html
I know it's not much of a question, but I thought a warning as far and wide as possible would be a good idea.
Answer:
Thanks for the heads up.

Swing Dancing? Question: Does anyone know of any swing dancing classes or clubs in or near Chehalis and Centralia, Washington, or anywhere I can learn/practice swing dancing? Thanks!
Answer:
You just need to find the nearest Lindy Hoppers to you.
It's a bit of a trek, but the closest group I could find is in Olympia.
http://olyswing.com/
You could go there and see if they know about any more dancing that's closer to you.
I do however recommend making the drive up to Seattle sometime, as they have a very busy swing scene. At the very least you should go for "Camp Jitterbug" which is an entire weekend of nothing but swing classes, social dancing, and contests. Here are some websites to help you out:
http://www.campjitterbug.com/
http://sealx.org/
http:// www.whiteheat.org/
http://www.centuryballroom.com/
http://www.s avoyswing.com/index.asp

f you want a little inspiration about swing dancing, check out this video (It's from a professional Lindy Hop competition):

Native American Ghosts? Question: Last night I was walking my dog. It was pretty late- about 11-11:30 at night. My dog started barking at soemthing and when I looked over I swear to whatever God is out there, a man was watching me. He raised his hand and just held it there. I started to pull my dog away and then I looked at her because she stopped barking. When I looked back the man was gone. I kid you not. This morning I looked up Northwest Native Americans online and the man I saw last night was dressed kind of like the ones in the pictures I was looking at.
Also, when I first moved up to Washington, I found an arrow with a stone arrowhead. This moring I went back out and found a brown feather around the place where the man was standing last night.
So, I was wondering if anyone could tell me a few things about it. Was he a ghost? What tribes we in the Northwest (Washington state, Chehalis/Adna area)? Does the arrow have anything to do with this? What about the feather?
Answer:
Many American Indian tribes believe that a person has more than one soul. The Lenape believe there are two souls, one goes back to the Creator and one soul stays here on earth to guide the ones left behind.
It is possible that this one has connections to the land where you live.
The others are correct about the meaning of a feather being used as a gift for something well done. When you see a Plains headdress, traditionally, all those feathers were earned by protecting the People, etc.
Next time you are outside, ask the spirit to contact you. This can come in the form of a dream, a flash of insight, or possibly a voice, maybe just a feeling of knowing.
As for researching the tribes in your area, go to your public library or a local museum and ask the people that work there. There is a lot of information on the internet, however, there is also a lot of misinformatioln. Remember, too, that when you are ready, a teacher will appear.
Good luck with your search and have fun with the learning!!!!!
