City DescriptionBlaine is a city in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. The city's northern boundary is the Canadian border. Blaine is the shared home of the Peace Arch international monument.
Blaine was officially incorporated on May 20, 1890, and was named after James G. Blaine (1830–1893), who was a U.S. senator from the state of Maine, Secretary of State, and, in 1884, the unsuccessful Republican presidential candidate.
Blaine, Washington, was first settled in the mid 1800s by pioneers who established the town as a seaport for the west coast logging and fishing industries, and as a jumping off point for prospectors heading to British Columbia's gold fields. In its heyday Blaine was home to over 10,000 people, twice today’s population. The World's largest salmon cannery was operated by the Alaska Packer's Association for decades in Blaine: the cannery site has been converted to a waterfront destination resort on Semiahmoo Spit. Several saw mills once operated on Blaine's waterfront, and much of the lumber was transported from its wharves and docks to help rebuild San Francisco following the 1906 fire there. The forests were soon logged, but Blaine's fishing industry remained strong and ... Read MoreCity Contained By:City Contains:- Peace Arch

Where is a good fishing spot near blaine washington or birch bay washington? Question: Going up for a short weekend get away and I want to do some fishing. I have tried searching on yahoo Blaine fishing or birch bay and nothing came up. I have found washingtonlakes.com website but I can not figure out which locations are the close to Blaine washington where we will be. Any help would be greately appreciated.
Thanks,
Answer:
In that area be careful of the seasons. They have closed Rockfishing and bottom fishing some what. There are many kelp beds in the area and I would go to one and fish the edges with a 3/4 ounce jig and large twistertail rubber worm. I have never had a kelp bed let me down yet. Also write the WDFW and they have been very good at getting back to me with specific questions. I was wanting to know about flounder and squid fishing and they gave me very good info. Usualy withing a couple days they would email me back. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Would it be fair to call Blaine, Washington a suburb of Vancouver, B.C.? Question: It is a different country, but Vancouver is by far the closest big city around. If you're going to call, say, Langley a suburb, then Blaine is actually closer.
Answer:
Yes, but living in Blaine requires crossing the border. There is a fast lane for people who do it frequently, but it can be tedious. I suspect that employment data show that Blaine is a suburb of Bellingham with some people also working in Vancouver. It is like Snohomish in Washington, some people work in Seattle and some in Everett, but more work in the latter city so Snohomish is considered a suburb of Everett. Blaine is also a border town, and lots of its activity is a function of sitting at the main crossing from Washington into BC.

Blaine Washington......private romantic getaway? Question: Does anyone know of a great place for a romantic getaway for dinner and overnight. (cottage, hotel, etc)
Answer:
As long as you are in Blaine, why not hop across the border to Vancouver? A B&B in Kits .... or North Van .....
Or better yet ... Hope .... and Harrison Hot Springs ....
OK .. on WA side of the border .... there oughta be some cool spots in Birch Bay, if you want to stay close.
In Bellingham, the Hampton Inn is very nice, lots of amenities, and across the street is a wonderful Greek Restuarant, pleasant atmosphere, a bit upscale but NOT the prices! Food and service is great. Then take in a concert, live show, or live music somewhere in B'ham ... plan the getaway for when something you enjoy is happening.

Do I need to wait in the long border lineups to visit peace arch park at Blaine/surrey? Question: I want to meet my friend at peace arch park... I live on the Canada side and she lives on the Washington side. We're just going to the park to hang out for an hour or so, will either one of us have to wait at the border lineups? (never been there before)
Answer:
actually, at one time you could visit peace arch park without going thru customs as long as you stayed in the confines of the park. . It was a friendship thing between US/Canada that allowed just what your talking about. I dont think its allowed post-911 tho... I think you have to go thru the actual border. Check out some of the links and you may be able to find a # to call them.

Entering and Exiting Canada? Question: I plan on traveling to Canada in 2 weeks but I do not have a passport and I cant seem to find my Birth Cerifacite or my Social Security card. I am 20 and will be traveling with 3 other people of my age, So I'm guessing that my Drivers License wont be good enough on its own. What other forms of id can I use? I will be going through the Blaine Washington entrance if that is of any use. Thank you
Answer:
You might still be able to use your Driver's Liscence to get back into the USA. Also, it would help if you brought some bills with your address, things of that nature. Since you're 20, you should have a student ID, bring that too....anything that shows proof of your residence in the United States.
The laws mandating a required proof of passport to get in and out of the US haven't gone into effect yet, so you should be okay.
Have fun, British Columbia is GEORGOUS!

Flying cross-country with our 5 month old daughter? Question: Well, my husband and I have flown plenty in together. We are military. But this is the first time in almost 2 years that we have gone on a flight and the first time for our 5 month old babygirl.
It's a long haul. Key West to Seattle and then a lil more to Blaine Washington. I have direct flights, so the time in air is about 6 hours. But we have two and three hour layovers in Miami and Seattle. God help us! :)
I am wondering about everything! We are new to flying with a baby. Our seats are in the rear of the plane both ways. We are having her in our laps. I figure we will bring a baby sling or front pack? Diaper bag...blankie a couple toys. She is part breatfeeding still, part bottle fed. Tell me what to bring, what to expect! We are going for a month.
Answer:
A baby is easy. Just bring diapers, food, a change of clothes for you and the baby. (mine spit up or should I say threw up on me on a flight once) and a pacifier for landing and take offs so that the ears will pop or they cry.
Dress them light I had a person over dress the baby once on a flight to Europe. the kid cried for a hour then mom started to cried, the stewardess got upset an took the baby. She ended up giving it to my friend and I we undressed it cooled it down and it went to sleep.
Next time get bulk head seats - no one in front of you and room for the little one to stand and sit in front of the seats. babies are easy toddlers are harder. One of mine got diarrhea of take off while the smaller one had to sit alone in the seat. The stewardess sat with my 1 1/2 year old daughter. While I tried standing in the bathroom on take off with a kid with the runs. Ah memories!

This is my english paper. Can you help me find mistakes and things i need to fix? Question: Amory’s Side of Paradise
Amory Blaine, son of Stephen Blaine and Beatrice O’Hara Blaine, grows up with money. At fifteen, Amory leaves his Midwestern home to attend St. Regis. St. Regis is a preparatory school in New Jersey, where he is consumed with football and popularity. Shortly after enrolling, he meets Monsignor Darcy, with whom he has a number of intellectual conversations about current issues. Darcy serves as a mentor to Amory, who is 30 years younger than Amory. From St. Regis, Amory goes on to Princeton. At Princeton, he begins to write for the Daily Princetonian. In his sophomore year, he is easily wins a competition for the newspaper, and is the most likely candidate for the editor position until his grades make him ineligible because of his want of popularity and lack of focus on schoolwork.
Among the friends he makes at Princeton is Thomas Parke D’lnvilliers, whom Amory admires for his poetry. He introduces Amory to many modern writers. With this, Amory begins his love with literature. He also begins his love affair with love. One of his more interesting love interests is with his widowed third cousin, Clara Page. They later realize that marriage is out of the question. After Amory has returned from military service in France, he meets Rosalind Connage, sister of rich Princeton friend Alec. Although they are deeply in love, Rosalind finally rejects marriage because Amory is too poor.
Distraught over the loss of Rosalind, Amory stays drunk for three weeks, then quits his job and heads for Washington, D.C., to talk with Monsignor Darcy. They fail to meet and Amory drifts to Maryland to visit an uncle. There he meets the eighteen-year-old Eleanor Savage, who is as wild as her name suggests. Together they ride through the countryside and write poetry. For six summer weeks, they are in love. Eleanor tries to kill herself and that is the end of their romance.
Despite all of his disappointments and failures, Amory believes that he has learned about Himself and can face the future with hope. In the end, Amory “Knows himself…but that is all”(332). Amory means that he knows himself and who he has become but nothing else.
Fitzgerald uses symbolism to display the theme of romantic love with obstacles. Fitzgerald symbolizes how there is no perfect love through tangible items. Amory’s life symbolizes this. “Nature as a very coarse phenomenon composed largely of flowers that, when closely inspected, appeared moth eaten…” (279). Amory’s life was full of flowers that would come into his life and would end up leaving a short time later.
Amory’s vanity is an example of the theme egotism in This Side of Paradise. When Amory says he is an egotist, he does not mean that he is self absorbed. He just values self importance over anything else. In the last chapter of the novel titled, “The Egotist Becomes a Personage,” the statement, “This selfishness is not only part of me. It is the most living part.” (319) Amory comes to think of himself as all he has. Amory gets his egotism from his snobby superiors. Amory fully embraces his egotism but does not recognize it’s value.
I am torn between weather I like or do not like This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The main reason I like it is because the main character, Amory, is amusing to me. He thinks that he is superior to everybody else and he thinks he can get through life thinking that. Another reason I like him is because he has a lot of arrogance and it does not stop him from getting what the wants. I like the moral of the book’s story. I think that it is trying to tell you that if you think to much of yourself you will end up with no friends. In the beginning, I did not see where the book was going. Overall, this was a great novel from F. Scott Fitzgerald.
i need an introduction paragraph and a closing paragraph.
Answer:
You need to go over the writing processes and make sure you make different paragraphs not one looooooooooooong paragraph.

Why should I pay Sales tax on my car? Question: I bought a car a few years ago when I lived in Oregon (Sales Tax Free State). Paid off 100% was mine. I went to move up to Canada and the car wasn't going to pass B.C's "AirCare" so I gave it to a friend of mine. Well me and my wife then decided we would rather live in the USA. So we moved to Blaine WA. The car company wouldn't let me import the car I was leasing from them. Well my friend had never used the car so he said he would just give it back to me. So I drove back down to Oregon to pick the car up. He had registered the car in his name as Oregon law requires. When I got back up to Washington and try to register my car in my name again they want to charge me 8.5% Sales tax on the Bluebook value of the car ($1400) thats $153. Even though the car was a "GIFT" Is the lady at the office wrong? (In WA they dont have DMVs like other states. Here they have like grocery stores that do this stuff) Or am I really going to pay that on top of the registration fees?
Any Link to the actual rules and regulations would be the best! Thanks!
Answer:
The money pays to fix the pot-holes in the roads. And there are plenty of them to fix. So you have to pay..
