aberdeen and hoquiam are fairly nice towns. it is not as expensive to buy a house there. there are many types of jobs mostly in the manufacturing industry, logging is also big. the area is mainly white, about 90%. it rains a lot more in aberdeen then the seattle region. the median household income is lower than the seattle region, but you can get good paying jobe here.

We are relocating in October of this year to Aberdeen/Hoqiuam area. We would like to have an apartment or house ready to move into before arriving in town. Is this going to be an easy thing or is it best just to get to town and camp out at the local hotel for a few days? Would Craig's list be an option?

Hi Steven...Craigslist is the most likely resourceful way to locate housing in and around the Aberdeen/Hoquiam region. However, it goes without saying be sure to check the landlords references as so many people have been scammed lately through Craigslist. Realtors nationwide will also have relocation programs to help families find a place as well.

Need rain, fog and green forrest with lots of hiking, biking, camping, shelling, clamming.
Do not need big smoggy city, crowded public transportation, loud traffic jams, snooty people and keeping up with the Jones's.
Would like to start own business, furniture making and clay art.

It is a nice area with limited traffic and a decent cost of living. Slowly over the years it is becoming more of a bedroom community to the Seattle metro area which has had some benefits such as a well developed transit system with connecting bus service through nearby Olympia to Tacoma & Seattle. Overall Aberdeen remains a quaint ocean side town with plenty of oppertunity to achieve what you seem to be looking for. Finding good work can be tough for some but since you obviously plan to run yor own business again you should do quite well. Good Luck!

i live here with my girlfriend, it's a nice small town but has a lot of stuff to do here. it gets a lot of rain in the winter, it's been 7 days of clear skies and this time of year it's mostly nice. real estate is fairly cheap, we bought our first home for about 100k. there is not a lot of jobs in the area, the timber industry is not what it used to be and that is what made the towns famous around here.
the ocean is close by and is nice this time of year, there is stuff to do in the town, the people are really nice here, we have a pretty good public transit system here for a town of this size.
all in all we have been very happy since moving here.
we get about 90 inces of rain on average, but most of that falls within the cold winter months, it never gets as hot as seattle or portland but we have a lot of nice days too.

Looked into City Data Forum for info on area of Aberdeen Wa. Not alot of positives there and from what I seen it wasnt just this area but all over the US.
We are moving to Aberdeen this fall. We have moved to many a place in the spring, so we figured that we would throw down and move in the fall. My favorite time of year as a matter of fact.
We seek a good church community for starters. We a in our mid to late 40's. One baby boomer and the younger women :)
Not looking for big city life. Need to slow down. Would like to start a small business of our own.
No job prospects yet, just biting bullet and moving. Have done this before and found it to be the best time of our lives. We are adventurous at heart, love to take a stab at life.
Making a move such as this can be scary, but we are bound and determined to make it work. Have looked into everything. Would like to know from someone who really LIKES it there. What are we looking at in October. Thank you

Will we have to check in twice - flying Aberdeen via Heathrow to USA?

We are flying from Aberdeen to Washington DC via Heathrow in a few weeks time - with United Airlines (code share with BMI from ABZ to LHR).
If we check-in at Aberdeen, will we get boarding cards for both legs? Or will they just cover the flight from ABZ to LHR and then we'll have to check-in all over again to get boarding passes for LHR to IAD?
We only have 2.5 hours between flights, so hoping our luggage will go through on its own (and praying we will see it in the States!) We also have to change from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3, but have been assured this wont take long - though it will take ages if we have to wait for luggage to check in again, surely?
We know our seat numbers already - so that's hopefully one less thing to do....

All luggage checked in at Dyce will be automatically transferred, you won't see it again until you arrive in Washington.
At Heathrow you just follow the signs to Terminal Three and check the information screens for your departure gate. You will have to go through security again and this can take some time. I would advise against detouring into shops etc but go straight to your departure gate.
