I want to visit Great Falls Park. Which side should I visit--Maryland or Virginia--and why?
    Question:
Please only answer if you have been to either or both and have experience with the park. Thanks.

    Answer:
The virginia side. The maryland side you can't really explore the falls and you have to stay on a path. On the virgina side you can climb on the rocks & cliffs and even get down near the water. There are like 6 over looks that are in the beginning of the park that you have to stay behind barriers but thats it, you can cut through the woods(there are paths throughout) to get on top of the rocks, you can really get into it on the VA side.

    Question:
My dad lives in the great fall area of Virginia (15 minutes to washington DC) and wants to ship his car over to Los Angeles. DO you know around how much it might cost? which company do you recommend? (links please..) Thanks oh he has a honda (civic?Ok i don't know)...and it's made in...96? 91? can't really remember. Anyway, it's in decent consition if that makes any difference (I wouldn't think so). "I'd try sdome shipping companies" - yeah I know...that was my question.....WHICH ones. (rolls eyes)

    Answer:
This company has a good reputation: http://www.moveavehicle.com/?lid=36711&gclid=CI_74tP F_owCFRGCGgodzC9bDg But, who ever you go with make sure that it is door to door, bonded and insured. Their bond should be more then the 50K required by the industry and their insurance should cover damage and theft. Before your father ships the car make sure he takes excellent pictures of the car. Close ups and distance pictures of the outside and INSIDE of the car. With todays fuel prices it should cost around $1.75 per mile.

Is it a good idea to grow some Virginia Creepers in front of my house?
    Question:
I have seen a lot of comments online that they are invasive and some people dont like them But then I will see a few that people dont mind them. I wanted some becuase they attract birds and they have really pretty fall foliage. I think it would look great and we arent planning on a garden around it so it wouldnt smother anything. Any suggestions?

    Answer:
when we moved into our house, i had a heck of a time untangling them from the outside air conditioning unit, the tall windows on the front of the house, under the front porch, and they had started to go underneath the siding on the house. i'd say not to plant it too close to the house, if you want to plant it. if i had a choice, they'd be in the back yard along the back fence, maybe on a pretty trellis. good luck!

Where should I live in northern Virginia-Willing to spend up to 850K, hubby working in Tysons and at airport.?
    Question:
Have 4 kids who will be in 2nd-9th grade in the fall. Always lived in houses built @ 1920 or so. Moving from Cleveland, but we are both originally east coasters. I'm a stay at home mom at this point. Want 4 or 5 bedrooms, and most importantly GREAT schools and a feeling of community.

    Answer:
Coming from Cleveland, I'd suggest you look at the Vienna area. Vienna is very different than most of No. VA in that it is a distinct village within an urban setting. You will find 100 yr old victorians amidst brand new mcmansions. Quant small town feel with restaurants and shops all in walking distance. Vienna's school district may be in flux as FFX Cty is drawing up new school boundaries as we speak. (I put a link below). FFX Cty schools are fantastic...but parents are in uproar over the changes since some AP schools are adversely affected. Since you are in that dollar range...you frankly have so many choices, rather than most coming here from non-high cost of living areas. Ashburn surrounds the Dulles area and is a massive development that is about 12 years old and you will find everything there is sparkling new. Anything you buy here will require an automobile and feeding the coffers of the Dulles Toll Road. Otherwise you will be cranky in a car just going to the stores on jam packed local streets. Frankly, I'd rather die than live there....but I do know folks love the community as I have lots of friends there. With foreclosures already adversely affecting that area....you might get lucky to purchase something comfortably in the 600K range that only a year ago was pushing 800K. Schools there are brand new too! Again...before an agent takes you under your wing...make sure you get them to take you to the Town of Vienna....then go check out Ashburn and you will see what I'm talking about. Vienna is also more likely to maintain its real estate values over Ashburn since volume and new construction is still ongoing and can affect future value (something NOT to be overlooked).

I need help on some early american history questions?
    Question:
    1. Which of the following statements concerning immigrants to colonial America during the first half of the eighteenth century is correct? a) Virginia experienced the greatest influx of new settlers. b) Most German-speaking immigrants settled in Pennsylvania. c) Slave imports fell d) Newly arrived immigrants usually settled in New England. The only one that I am sure is not correct is 'c'. Because the book plainly shows that slavery rose during this time. This one is a true or false statement. A growing transatlantic trade undermined the entreprenueurial ethos in America and indreased concern for public welfare. Evangelicalism refers to religious beliefs or churches that emphasize-- a) partaking of the sacraments. b) performance of good works as the keys to salvation. c) a hierarchical structure and leadership. d) individual faith and authority of the Christian gospel. Any help you can give me on these three questions would be appreciated.

Gun Control & todays events in Virginia....?
    Question:
A similar massacre to the Virginia massacre occured in Australia in 1996. 35 people were shot-dead by a mad-man. Prior to this occuring numerous other masacres had occured regularly in Australia (much like we see in the U.S.).... The 1996 Australian incident (which was the worst single-shooter massacre in the world) led to a great change in Australia's gun laws. It is now time for America to look at doing the same..... Guns are bad and have a negative impact on society..... The American homicide rate far outnumbers that of other western countries something needs to be done... Ever since guns laws have been tightened in Australia such events do not occur and gun violance has significantly fallen.... An increase in home break-ins.... due to guns being banned is a small price to pay for the thousands of lives that could be saved yearly. A problem such as an "increasing home break-in rate" could be easily controlled by having better home security and more policing on the streets (which in effect will bring down other forms of crime too...)

    Answer:
I'm also an Australian. It is very easy to comment on Americans laws and culture. I think that something clearly needs to be done in regards to gun laws. I agree that crazy people will always do crazy things, however, given the amount of yearly household accidents relating to guns, simply having easy access to guns taken away will save lives. Here is something I just found: Every hour in America, four people are killed by firearms. (Centers for Disease Control) A gun in your home makes it three times more likely that you or someone you care about will be murdered by a family member or intimate partner (Kellerman,New England Journal of Medicine v329, n.15 1993)

What is the signifcance of the Mayflower Compact?
    Question:
The Pilgrim's journey to America began in 1608 when they were forced to leave their native England for Holland. Their religious beliefs were in conflict with those of England's Anglican Church. As the Anglican Church and the monarchy of King James I were one, the Pilgrim's opposition could be interpreted as treason; consequently, they felt it prudent to leave the country. By 1620, the Pilgrim's experience in Holland had gone sour and they returned to England with the objective of making passage to America. Problems plagued their departure from the start. Leaving Southampton on August 5 aboard two ships (the Mayflower and the Speedwell) they were forced back when the Speedwell began to leak. A second attempt was thwarted when the Speedwell again began to leak and again the hapless Pilgrims returned to port. Finally, after abandoning the Speedwell, 102 Pilgrim passengers departed from Plymouth aboard the Mayflower on September 6. The intended destination was Virginia where they planned to start a colony. After a journey of 66 days they made landfall at Cape Cod near present-day Provincetown - more than 600 miles off course. William Bradford was a prominent member of the expedition and would soon be elected governor of the Plymouth Colony. He kept a record of the journey and we join his story as the Mayflower sails out of Plymouth: (The Old English of the original account has been modernized) "...they put to sea again with a prosperous wind, which continued several days together, which was some encouragement unto them; yet according to the usual manner many were afflicted with seasickness. And I may mention here a special work of God's providence. There was a proud and very profane young man; one of the sea-men, of a lusty, able body, which made him the more haughty; he would always be condemning the poor people in their sickness, and cursing them daily with grievous execrations, and told them, that he hoped to help to cast half of them over board before they came to <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://ad.doubleclick.net/click%3Bh=v7/343e/7/71/%2a/c%3B31 142258%3B0-0%3B0%3B13647205%3B4307-300/250%3B17256473/17274368/1% 3B%3B%7Esscs%3D%3fhttp://a.tribalfusion.com/h.click/AXCWTRSHOLLIN LJKGKHOJPIWLGMHORRRQNGPPXCEORHJYPLRXIGPCDMVMGPFLCCTWOLUTLQFUKDKIQ /http://www.alamo.com"&gt ;<IMG SRC="http://m1.2mdn.net/1140115/Alamo_canyon_300x250.jpg" BORDER=0>& amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/A&amp ;amp;amp;gt; their journey's end, and to make merry with what they had; and if he were by any gently reproved, he would curse and swear most bitterly. But it pleased God before they came half seas over, to smite this young man with a grievous disease, of which he died in a desperate manner, and so was himself the first that was thrown overboard. Thus his curses fell on his own head; and it was an astonishment to all his fellows, for they noted it to be the just hand of God upon him. After they had enjoyed fair winds and weather, they encountered many times, crosswinds, and met with many fierce storms, with which the ship was thoroughly shaken, and her upper works made very leaky; and one of the main beams amidships was downed and cracked, which put them in some fear that the ship could not be able to perform the voyage. So some of the chiefs of the company, perceiving the mariners to fear the condition of the ship, as appeared by their mutterings, they entered into serious consultation with the master and other officers of the ship, to consider whether to return, rather than to cast themselves into desperate and inevitable peril. And truly there was great distraction and difference of opinion amongst the mariners themselves. But in examining of all opinions, the master and others affirmed they knew the ship to be strong and firm underwater; and for the buckling of the main beam, there was a great iron screw the passengers brought out of Holland, which would raise the beam into its place; which was done. The carpenter and master affirmed that with a post put under it, set firm in the lower deck, and other ways bound, he would make it sufficient. And as for the decks and upper works they would caulk them as well as they could, and though with the working of the ship they would not long hold firm, they would be safe as long as they did not over-stress her with sails. So they committed themselves to the will of God, and resolved to proceed. In many of these storms the winds were so fierce, and the seas so high, as they could not bear a knot of sail, but were forced to heave to (face into the wind to stop the ship), for many days together. And in one of them, as they thus lay hove to, in a mighty storm, a strapping young man (called John Howland) was, with a lurch of the ship thrown into the sea; but it pleased God that he caught hold of the ropes which hung overboard. He held his hold (though he was many feet under water) till he was hauled up by the same rope to the brim of the water, and then with a boathook and other means got into the ship again, and his life saved. In all this voyage there died but one of the passengers, which was William Butten, a youth, servant to Samuel Fuller, when they drew near the coast. ...after long beating at sea they fell with that land which is called Cape Cod: they were not a little joyful! After some deliberation amongst themselves and with the master of the ship, they resolved to sail southward to find someplace about Hudson's river for their habitation. But after they had sailed that course about half a day, they fell amongst dangerous shoals and roaring breakers, and resolved to bear up again for the Cape, and thought themselves happy to get out of those dangers before night overtook them. Being thus arrived in a good harbor and brought safe to land, they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven, who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean, and delivered them from all the perils and miseries thereof."
