After forming Culpeper County, Virginia, in 1748, the Virginia House of Burgesses voted to establish the Town of Fairfax on February 22, 1759. The name honored Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, who was proprietor of the Northern Neck, a vast domain north of the Rappahannock River stretching from the Chesapeake Bay to what is now Hampshire County, West Virginia. The original plan called for 10 blocks, which form the core of Culpeper's downtown area today. In 1795, the town received a post office under the name Culpeper Court House, although most maps continued to show the Fairfax name. The confusion resulting from the difference in official and postal name coupled with the existence of Fairfax Court House and Fairfax Station post ... culpeper virginia?????? Question: has any one been there and have you been to cms?
Answer:
I am originally from Madison County, Virginia - just to the south of Culpeper. I went to school in Madison, but both my parents worked in Culpeper, and my father is originally from Culpeper. It's a nice area, very scenic, generally a low crime rate. But I believe immigration is becoming more of an issue.
When I lived there (10-15 years ago), there wasn't a lot to do, but there has been a lot of development recently, especially on the northern end of the Town of Culpeper. In many ways, it has become a "bedroom community" for people who work in Northern Virginia, but want a more rural lifestyle and lower cost of living.

What is the best prepaid cellular network for north-central Virginia? Question: I'm ditching my current cell phone contract next month and getting a pay-as-you-go phone. I'm wondering what company has the best signal for the Culpeper- Charlottesville- Fredericksburg- Warrenton- Orange- Madison area.
Additionally, if you use or have used a prepaid cell phone, what company has the best prices? What are the advantages and disadvantages for a prepaid cell user?
Answer:
Prepaid cell phones are much more expensive per month than your traditional plans, plus the service you get is worse than regular carriers.

Which is the best prepaid phone carrier? Question: I live in the middle of nowhere in Virginia near culpeper, i need it to have cheap web browser, txt, and mobile im. I need it to have a good signal also.
Answer:
I use T-Mobile. I used to have their monthly plan, but now I have their prepaid plan. I like it. With them, the minutes that you buy don't expire for 3 months. And once you have spent $100 you get to their gold plan and your minutes don't expire for a year. I think you get good value for the money. Also, I have always gotten good signal with them, no matter what. You can check their website and see if they have coverage in your area. For the other stuff, make sure you get a phone that has all the features you need. T-mobile has many to choose from, so see if you can find one that suits your needs. Good luck.

Thinking about moving to Virginia.....(Fredricksburg, Charlottesville, Orange???) Help!? Question: Iam from Ohio & may be relocating to Virginia if I take this position. Can someone please tell me a location (not too country) that would not be too far from the Culpeper Juvenile Center (in Mitchells)? I will be looking to rent at first but I really do not want out in the country. Iam trying to find a 45 min. drive or less if possible. Anyone know of an affordable area that is in a nice location? I have only checked a few things out as far as Charlottesville and Fredricksburg but can not seem to find the answers that Iam looking for. I would def. appreciate any help! Thank you!
Answer:
I visited my cousins when they lived in Charlottesville it was very nice. I would say it is the best choice of yours. Culpepper is more of a quite place where nothing really happens. Yes, I would say all area's are affordable. Charlottesville has a nice shopping area and
the Historic Monticello. Fredericksburg is a nice urban area that has history. The closest I think to the District is Fredericksburg. Good Luck! If I were, I'd choose Charlottesville, but the choice is really your's.

Calling DC residents familiar with Union Sation? Question: So, I'm jumping through hoops to avoid a 2 hour drive (and the gas) to BWI airport. (I live very near Culpeper, Virginia)
For $20 I can take Amtrack train from culpeper to union station and for like, $4 I can take the DC metro from union station to BWI (Yes, I'm aware amtrack goes to BWI, but the schedules culp-BWI don't work for me) $24 is probably way LESS than I'd have to pay for gas (especially by mid-July ) for someone to take me to BWI.. and that's not including the HUGE PAIN to drive to BWI
But I know nothing about union station.. I WILL have plenty of time to get from home to BWI (amtrack arrives at union station 11 am, flight leaves BWI 4:30) but I know nothing about the lay out
Where is the Amtrack station (in union station) in relation to the Metro sation?
Are their luggage carts available???
What would be involved in getting off Amtrack and going to Metro??
Any helpful information?
Thanks..
One other thing I'm wondering about
I will, of course, be buying my airline tickets WAY ahead of time (possibly this week) and then I'll buy the appropriate amtrack tickets..
BUt as far as the metro goes.. Can I walk up to the metro station and buy a ticket? Do I HAVE to buy ahead of time to get a decent price (remember, I'm just going from union station to BWI)??
If i don't have to buy my METRO ticket ahead of time that would be helpful, as I can maybe "tweak" my metro schedule to have more time at the airport, or more time at Union station, whichever I think is best...
Thanks
Here's a run-down of my schedule, just in case a more "D.C savvy" person can catch a huge flaw
Amtrack leaves Culpeper at 8:12 am. ARrives Union Station, DC at 10:10 am
Metro leaves (amongst many other times) union station at 11:03 am and arrives BWI at 12:28
My flight leaves BWI at 4:30
Long day, but possibly something of an adventure, and worth it.. to avoid someone having to drive me to BWI, and the gas money I'd "owe" them.
My return flight is similar.. arrive BWI at 1:45 pm.. need to catch Amtrack from Union station to Culpeper at 6:30 pm.. LOL
HEY!! Great suggestion about the MARC, suzie
really seems like it might be a better way than the metro.. less connections (only one, to get on shuttle bus for the ariport)
Answer:
I suggest you take Amtrak from VA to the BWI stop...no transfers
But if you are looking for an adventure...the way you have it planned out now will defiantly provide what you are looking for...
I suggest to modify it just a bit...Don't take the metro from Union Station...take the Marc train.
If you take the metro from Union Station (red line) you will have to transfer to the green/yellow line at Chinatown and from there go to the Greenbelt Station. from Greenbelt you will have to take a bus to BWI.....PLEASE NOTE THAT THE METRO TRAIN DOES NOT GO TO BWI
If you are asking about a luggage cart...all these transfers maybe difficult with your bags.
The MARC train and Amtrak both go to a station less then 5 minutes from BWI where there is a free shuttle that takes you to the airport.
To answer your other questions:
Your train tickets can be purchased for the one way fare on the day of your trip. Sometimes Amtrak sells out but this has only happened to me once. Just FYI the MARC train is only available Monday-Friday so if you are traveling on the weekend this is not an option
Union Station does have luggage carts and porters. The Marc and Metro system do not.
