Has anyone seen the Chincoteague ponies in Virginia? Question: I always wanted to see the ponies ever since I read a series of children's books based on the ponies. Do you remember the author's name? Is it worth going to see them? How close can you get to them?
Answer:
i live around there and i've never read the books though. (i can't remember who it's by but i THINK the first name is misty) go to Assateague Island to see them. There are tons. you can't touch them (remember they're wild) but you can see them and drive by them and stuff. There's so many that they actually have a swim in which they take tons of the horses and make them swim across the bay and sell them. the profits go to the volenteer fire department. This place is beautiful and an ideal place to visit.

Chincoteague Island, Virginia...? Question: So, I'm going to Chincoteague Island, Virginia, with my dad, step-mom, 3 step-siblings, all younger, and my best friend.
I'm 13, as well as my friend.
We're staying in a beachhouse I don't know where, haha.
We're also visiting Assateague to see the wild horses, go to beaches, etc.
What are some fun things that we can do alone, or with the whole family?
Also, what are some of the best beaches to relax at, quiet and serene?
AND are there any cliff diving spots in Chincoteague or Assateague? I've always wanted to jump off of a cliff into the ocean, it's every girl's dream:]
Please and thank you!!
:]
Answer:
Not likely to do cliff diving since there are no cliffs within several hundred miles of Chincoteague. There are also no houses directly on the beach since it is part of a National Seashore. The beach in the Seashore is quite pretty and more than about a half mile from the parking lot the beach is quiet and serene.
Things to do include bicycling to the beach and through the town, visiting the shops and ice cream parlors in town, beach combing--all of the things one does at a small beach resort. No big boardwalks or hotels like Ocean City, MD or Virginia Beach.
Be sure to pack sunscreen and bug spray and watch out for the horseflies--they are vicious!
Otherwise it is a fun place.Enjoy.

Beaches in Virginia?? Question: Looking for vacation ideas. My husband wants to go to the beach from West Virginia. I don't want to go to Mrytle Beach. Can anyone suggest beaches in Virginia? Is there anything to do at Chincoteague Island? Thanks
Answer:
If you didn't want to go to Myrtle Beach you're not going to like Ocean City, MD. It's pretty much the same, just a little smaller than Myrtle. Chincoteague Island is nice. The beaches are clean and it's very laid back. You can rent bikes and have access to most amenities beach towns offer. You can walk over to Assateague and enjoy the warmer water and clean beaches. Hope you have fun!

Beaches in Virginia or Maryland? Question: I'm looking for a quick 2 day trip hopefull with oceanfront hotels and clean water and sand. I usually only go to Ocean City, MD or Virginia Beach, VA, but I'm looking for something different... LESS CROWDED... would be best, i was thinking maybe Chincoteague Island, but i've never been there.. whats it like and what other small beaches are out there?
lakes are good too because i like day trips as well!
Answer:
The only other beach in Maryland is Assateague. You will spend the entire day hitting large flies. If you're looking for less crowded, try the Outer Banks which are an hour south of Virginia Beach.

has anyone ever been to....? Question: have you ever been to chincoteague, virginia to see the pony swim, i have
Answer:
We used to go every summer when I was a kid (lo, these many years ago). It was really neat the first couple of years, then one year my parents decided we were going to go camping on Assateague for a whole month. In an old pop-up trailer with no bathroom & no a/c. Man, I was never so bored in my whole life!

Who sang this country/folk song? Question: I'm having the hardest time finding out who sang this song.
Help! I know it's a duet.
History’s chock full of wisdom
in matters involving the heart
There are unions meant to be broken
and some that should never start
You can fall for a woman who’s taken
Or a mistress feeling remorse
But you don’t want to ever encounter
a gal who’s in love with her horse
Don’t fall for a girl who fell for a horse
just to be number two in her world
Run from that stable
as fast as you’re able
Don’t hitch up her trailer
your pickup’ll fail her
Don’t do battle
when she’s in the saddle
Run from that stable now
from that horseback riding girl
Some men won the heart of a mermaid
but never of Catherine the Great
A royal with love for a stallion
a pair they could not separate
Suffer through National Velvet
Then you may just know why
A sober Elizabeth Taylor
fell for a beast named Pie
Chorus
You don’t get between a Queen and her throne
You don’t get between a dog and her bone
Don’t get between the sole of a shoe and a stone
And there’s one pair you’ll leave alone
You can chew on the grass of Kentucky
but it won’t sprout you two or more legs
You won’t catch the speed of a Filly
from strappin on their food bags
You can trot through Eastern Virginia
Gallop Chincoteague on all fours
She ain’t gonna call you Wild Fire
Might as well stay ashore
‘cause fella you ain’t no horse
thanks!
Answer:
Horse by Eddie from Ohio.

How'd you get your first/current horse (along with other questions)? Question: Like, how did you convince your parents (or yourself) to buy one? Did your parents think it was too costy? Including all that boarding, tack, and grooming supples, etc? What do you use your horse for? (jumping, trail riding, etc.) Anything else you want to add?
-->I love Chincoteague Ponies, what can you say about that? ( I own NO horses) *tear tear* :(
If you happen to have a Chinco Pony, did you get it in Virginia? Where theyre mostly at? Or did you get lucky and get it somewhere near you? And how much do they usually cost?
Answer:
My parents bought her for me, because I nagged a lot and it was the only thing I cared about. The best way to convince your parents to get you a horse is to convince them to like horses too. Now that I've been riding for almost 12 years, my dad really enjoys the horses too. So after we got the first one, and she had a baby (surprise) we moved to our own horse property and it was very easy to convince him to get more. If they don't like horses themselves or don't understand why you like them than it'll be a REALLY hard sell. But now that my parents know that it's the most important thing to me, and because my dad likes them, it's pretty easy. Tack and stuff I would accumulate before you get the horse, I had just about everything I could need before I got my mare, so my parents couldn't use that as an excuse.
Also, Chinco ponies are not worth it. Because of Margaret Henry's books they go for ridiculously high prices. My trainer who visited there on vacation told me that the cheapest foals went for 1000 or over. And that some people were crazy enough to pay over 12K for one that looked like Misty!
Also!! Most important: Your parents have to know that you're responsible and that you're going to take care of the horse. If you're not out there every day (or some other reasonable amount of time) first of all, you shouldn't have that horse. And second, your parents will rightfully tell you that you need to sell it.
