Where might a Dave Matthews Band fan go to have a good time in Charlottesville, Virginia? Question: I know Dave Matthews used to bartend at a place called Millers, I don't know if it is still in existance and where it's located.. The band used to play at a place called Trax or Tracks and am not sure if that place is still up and running.. The Dave Matthews Band has a wonderful song called Warehouse which is about a place they used to play on the roof.. It's a pink Warehouse. I don't know the name of it or where it is located.
Answer:
Miller's is really close to the Omni Hotel downtown. Go to the desk there and pretend like you are staying there and ask them to point you in the right direction. There is a road that is closed to traffic outside of the Omni, go down that road so you pass the skating rink on the right and keep trucking, Millers is up on the left. 10 seconds on google will also tell you...

Is Charlottesville, Virginia a good place to move to? Question: I recently landed a job in the D.C. area. Its impossible to find housing there and when I do the houses cost over 500,000 dollars! I figured if I moved out of the area and commute it might make life just a bit easier. Is Charlottesville, VA the best place to commute from?
Answer:
No way, too long. Fredericksburg to the south and Leesburg to the west (via the Dulles Greenway toll road) are the farthest you'll want to go. Even then, is a bigger house really worth the longer commute? Consider getting a condo, and enjoy the convenience of public transportation. Metro and VRE (with service to Manassas and Fredericksburg) can't be beat. The I-95/395 corridor south to Woodbridge also has the best HOV lanes in the country if you prefer to carpool. If a big house is really your thing, consider settling in the panhandle of West Virginia, which has regular MARC commuter rail service from Harper's Ferry and Martinsburg to Union Station downtown. Another possibility is to commute down I-66 from Front Royal/Winchester in the west, but you'd probably want to park and ride VRE the rest of the way in at Manassas (the traffic isn't worth it – trust me).

How is Charlottesville, Virginia? Question: I'm from Los Angeles and I want to live there for a while (reason: school) but aside from Nevada, I've never traveled elsewhere in the US. I have no idea what to expect living there.
?
Answer:
My mother-in-law lives in Crozet, which is just outside of Charlottesville. It's really beautiful country - lots of green rolling hills and mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway is spectacular in the fall. My husband and I have discussed moving there but it's too expensive for us, plus the weather is a problem for our allergies. I assume you're going to UVA? It's got a really pretty campus, and I hear it's a good school. The area is expensive, but since you're from LA it probably won't freak you out like someone from the midwest. The weather is pretty mild during the winter, but summers are hot and very humid. If you've never experienced summer in the south, well, it ain't fun. The area is so humid that people often have mold and mildew on the outside of their houses. You may develop allergy problems as they're pretty common in that general area, so it might help to talk to your doctor about what medications he/she recommends before you leave. Fall and spring tend to be pretty wet as well. Still, it really is beautiful. I recommend hiking if you're into that.
As for culture, Charlottesville is fairly small yet international. There's at least one of of everything. At worst you can drive to the Park n Ride and take the train to DC if you get bored on the weekend. Since it's in the south, it's a fairly conservative Christian area, although C-ville itself is liberal by local standards. There is some racism (again, the south, what can I say) and you'll find the culture very different from LA. The pace should be slower than what you're used to as well. It's a fairly art-oriented town, with lots of local artists and craftspeople and musicians (and hippies). My mother in law and her husband are fiddlers and are into the folk music and square dancing scene (yes, there's a square dancing scene in the south - it's actually kind of fun, but exhausting). Charlottesville is surrounded by small towns, and it gets more rural as you move away from it. You'll definitely see a difference the further south and west you go.
I think you'll enjoy it. If not, at least you will have had the experience. Good luckk, and I hope you enjoy it.

Which city is a better place to visit, Charlottesville, Richmond or Norfolk Virginia? Question: Tell me a little about what you think of any of these cities. Thanks.
Answer:
In short, Charlottesville. No contest.
All of the cities have interesting stuff, depending on how far away you are. Assuming you are coming from a ways away....definitely not Norfolk. You can hit Richmond and Charlottesville, they are about an hour apart. Charlottesville is the nicest city. Lots of history, and lots of beautiful land.
