City DescriptionCastlewood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Russell County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,036 at the 2000 census. Castlewood was an incorporated town from 1991 to 1997, when it reverted to unincorporated status.
Castlewood is located at 36°52′43″N, 82°17′21″W (36.878614, -82.289229).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.2 square miles (18.7 km²), of which, 7.2 square miles (18.6 km²) of it is land and 0.14% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,036 people, 872 households, and 637 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 283.0 people per square mile (109.3/km²). There were 950 housing units at an average density of 132.1/sq mi (51.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.48% White, 0.93% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.05% from other races, and 0.44% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.44% of the population.
There were 872 households out of which 27.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were ...
