Questions Possibly Related to Broadway, VirginiaProvided By Y! Answers
How to get involved with live theatre? Question: I live in West Virginia, and I really want to start acting, especially in musicals. I'm not talking broadway, but I'm pretty sure I'd do well. How in the world do I even start auditioning? Also, I'm a college student, so I need to stay in the Morgantown area for now.
Answer:
I agree with Brickar (hope I got the handle right!) that the college should have a theater arts club or classes. It's in these clubs and classes that you'll be able to network and find the contacts you want. Community theater groups are wonderful. Check out religious organizations you belong to (if any) to see if they have drama ministries. And don't sell yourself short about Broadway.... To get ready, learn a couple of parts from musicals you like. Not just a few songs, but the whole part. In your spare time. Then when you audition you can leisurely select some dialogue and music that you know very well and are comfortable with. If you're lucky, they'll be putting on the show you know....

Hank Willams Jr. A country boy can surrive
Why o why did I have to be born in Chicago where I get affected by the stock market and banks and the government! Is there a country family that will be willing to take me in and learn to live off the land? I will do my best to help out with what ever needs to be done. Anyone? Does anyone else wish they were born a country boy?
Answer:
Be careful of romanticizing the rural lifestyle. Country born boys (or girls) don't always have an easy time of it. They may "survive" but they don't always thrive. People can and do lose farms. Living off the land is not simple. Oftentimes weather doesn't cooperate, and yes you can get plagues of the type described in the Bible...not to mention what drought can do to farmland. During the Great Depression, there was several huge agricultural problems in the Dust Bowl states. Hence the exodus of farmers and "Okies" migration into California. You can read about them in the novels Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men.
Also, rural areas can be hit with big city problems. There are issues with drugs (meth in particular) and even gangs in the smallest of towns. There are family breakdowns and abuse as well.
