Best route between Bowling Green and 295 in Virginia?
    Question:
I'm planning a trip from the Baltimore area to eastern NC. I want to go around the Wilson Bridge construction in DC and I'm planning on using 301 south. When you get to Bowling Green, is it quicker to stay on 301 south to 295 or to take 207 west to 95 south to 295?

    Answer:
I just drove through Baltimore, and there must be thousands of routes. Sorry though, I drove north out of there. Maybe the 695?

Has anyone ever seen a tornado in Virginia?
    Question:
Did you get any good pics? I took a good one of the one that hit Bowling Green in 04. Any Va. tornado sights?

    Answer:
I don't have a picture. It hit the BUILDING I was working in while I was in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1989. The ceiling ducts and internal fans went crazy, moaning and howling, then I head what sounded like a car crashing into the back of the building and then everything died down. The tornado had "ticked" a corner o the building and knocked some bricks down and caused some radical alternations in the air pressure of the ventilation system. Then it was gone. Tornados are unusual in Virginia (most are associated with hurricanes or one-cell thunderstorms on the Chesapeake Bay). But, yes, we have them (particularly around Richmond in September of 2003 when that hurricane stalled over Richmond and there were thunderstorms throughout central Virginia).

Anybody ever see a tornado in Virginia?

    Answer:
yeah i saw a HUGE one when i was driving thru there. but i dont have any pics. i was more worried about getting the h*** out of there!

Single-wide mobile homes; give me all of the advice you have for buying one that's older (76-97)?
    Question:
^^I am planning to relocate to anyone of the following states within a metro of atleast 100,000: Alabama Arizona Arkansas California Colorado Geo rgia Idaho Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas Kentucky (Not Corbin or Bowling Green) Minnesota Mississippi Missouri Nebraska Nevada North Carolina Ohio (not Cincinatti) Oklahoma Oregon Pennsylvania South Carolina Tennessee Texas Virginia Washington West Virginia Wisconsin (I know, not very specific) purchase budget: $5000 or less (tax liens [absolute deed only] are acceptable; desirable, in fact), $1,000 down lot rent: $<250

    Answer:
Make sure it has copper, not aluminum electrical wiring. Aluminum wiring has caused many mobile home fires. Ask about the flooring--you want PLYWOOD, not particle board and not OSB, if possible. (Older homes came with particle board--it would have had to have been replaced). Ask if they've had any leaks in the floors. Ask how many times it has been moved--every time it is moved, it vibrates the insulation, causing it to be shaken down the wall--we had to pull some paneling back on ours to fix something and the insulation was a little over 1/3 way down the wall!!! The home had been moved 3 times total!!! Also ask when it was moved, was it moved with the furniture in or out of it--moving it with the furniture in it can cause warping of the frame. Look for brown spots on the ceiling--telltale signs of a roof leak. Ask if the roof has ever been cold sealed? When you buy the mobile home/move it, you should buy a bucket of cold seal at your local Lowe's, get a rag mop and get on top of the mobile home and mop it on. It is a silver, tarry substance that seals any small leaks, reflects light, and helps insulate, thus saving energy. Find out if the mobile home has had a cover over the roof--some people build "roofs" over their mobile home roof to protect it.

    Rank the BS confereneces?
    Question:
Lets play it again 1) SEC - Self Explanitory 2) Pac 10. I would have put one if Washington would have defeated The Overated State University and UCLA did not get destroyed by the Runnin Utes. 3) Big East. Mainly by default, West Virginia, Rutgers and a very solid South Florida team. Louisville dropped off the map after losing to the Mighty Cuse possibly the worst team in college football, but Cincinatti did destroy Oregon State 4) Big XI- an impressive Oklahoma Squad and a very unimpressive texas squad that seems to just find ways to win. After that there is too much left to be desired. 5) ACC Big road win for FSU at a game Colorado, Miami beating TAMU. BC looks good Clemson may make some noise and Va Tech may be turning a corner. 6) Big 10. Teams this conference has lost too. Duke, FAU, App St. Bowling Green, Iowa State. Only Ohio State seems to want to play well this year

    Answer:
The 2007 college football season is a third over in most bastions as schools look to wrap up regular-season campaigns by the Thanksgiving holidays if not before. Professional Handicappers League member Jimmy Boyd notes certain characteristics have emerged as clubs move toward the defining month of October and bowl talk transforms into more than mere speculation. Boyd espouses pretty much of a what-you-see-is-what-youre-going-to-get attitude though others look down the road and anticipate a few surprises especially some involving what currently are perceived as upper-echelon Top 25 squads -- though there doesnt appear to be much room for alterations at the very top. USC LSU defending national champion Florida and Oklahoma rule the roost one through four in this weeks USA Today poll although the gambling specific BGS ower Ratings have LSU USC & Oklahoma tied up in the 1 spot with Florida a distant 4th. Most college observers believe the top 4 arent likely to change. An alaphabet soup BCS Championship isnt etched in stone by any means but it might not be too early for sponsors of the New Orleans national championship game to line up Campbells as a major sponsor in anticipation of a meeting between the Trojans and Tigers. Ive said this before and Ill say it again Boyd declared. Its a top-heavy year in college football. The teams at or near the top will remain there all season with very few others making surprise runs. One encounter garnering media attention this weekend is the Friday night Big East affair between No. 5 West Virginia and No. 18 South Florida. Canadian PHL member Steve Zukiel regards it as the weeks most appealing matchup. Im very interested Zukiel said. Wow. Boyd offered similar sentiments. West Virginia-South Florida is a very big game in the Big East he said. The South Florida Bulls won at Auburn to show they could be for real. They ARE the sleeper pick in the Big East. West Virginia is never quite as good on the road. This game either will keep South Floridas hopes of a Big East championship alive or it will keep West Virginias hopes of a national title alive. After the BCS title tilt the Rose Bowl traditionally draws the most interest among holiday bowl offerings. Observers hardily have maligned the Big Ten largely because of early-season woes in Ann Arbor. The current USA Today poll however includes five conference teams among its Top 25: Ohio State Wisconsin Purdue Michigan State and Penn State though Michigan State for example has racked up a 4-0 record against teams such as Notre Dame that pack about as much muscle as Spongebob Squarepants! Five time World Champion Handicapper and Professional Handicappers League Commissioner Brian Gabrielle has four Big Ten teams among the leading 25 and drops Penn State all the way down to 41st. He has Michigan State 25th and Michigan 52nd in contrast Zukiel still regards UM as a Top 5 team. They still can win the Big 10 championship still smell the roses Zukiel said. Gabrielle has Ohio State ranked fifth nationally Wisconsin ninth and Purdue 17th. This The BGS Power Ratings takes everything into account not just the results of one game i.e. Michigan over Penn St but all games against all opponents Gabrielle said. I know Michigan fans are frustrated and looking for something to grab on to but it doesnt help Michigan that Penn State is not a Top 25 team in The BGS Power Ratings so the win really loses luster. East Coast PHL handicapper Bill Fishman still gives the Wolverines a shot at a cherished Big Ten championship. I feel Michigan is still a very talented team and one that should be reckoned with for the Big Ten title Fishman said. Michigan was my top play this week as a dog win over Penn State. Im still not a huge fan of the Big Ten but Ohio State is quick and talented on defense. Boyd believes uncertainty surrounding the Midwest loop traditionally among the countrys strongest could actually prove to be a boon as each game takes on added significance. Theres no doubt the Big Ten is down. he said. Michigan did what it needed to do to stay in the hunt by taking care of business at home against the Lions. That win gets them believing again without a doubt. Wisconsin or Ohio State appears to have the inside track. Right now it looks like its going to be a sloppy ride. I dont see anyone running the table and home field advantage in big matchups will be crucial.

Why do YOU like the South? Do you live there?
    Question:
By south, I mean 9 of the 11 states of the Confederacy (Virginia gets left out, except maybe the extreme Southern part, and Florida too except for the extreme northern part.) Let's go ahead and throw in most of Oklahoma (except the northeastern corner) and a small part of southern Kentucky (Murray to Bowling Green over to Corbin.) I like the food, culture, people, hospitality, and weather. Even if you don't like the South, you can answer...but don't count on getting 10 points, because the South is truly better than California, Chicago, New York, or any other part of the country. These places count: Texas, Oklahoma (except for the NE corner), Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, S. Carolina, N. Carolina, extreme southern Virginia, extreme southern Kentucky, and extreme northern Florida.

    Answer:
i lived in the south most of my life. then i made moved up to new york. so i think i can answer this question. I personally think the south has more things to do and has way better weather. i came from geogia and i loved it there and the food down there rocks

    Answer:
Thanks for printing this. It looks fair to me based on how team's performed week 1. My respect for Mizzou, Illinois, Alabama and Clemson only goes up all around for scheduling "real" games against top programs on Week 1. We need more of that - it would be good for football.
