does anyone know about the yard sale that runs the blue ridge parkway from virginia to south carolina?

    Answer:
The World's Longest Yard Sale Corridor 127 630 Miles of Treasures From Ohio to Alabama August 7 - 10, 2008 © Christine Nyholm Jul 22, 2008 Tennessee Mountain View, kkiset, hu.sxc The Worlds Longest Yard Sales travels along a 630 mile route from Defiance Ohio to Gadsen Alabama.. Treasures are found along the way in Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia. The World's Longest Yard sale is celebrating its 21st anniversary of bargains on the U.S. 127 Corridor. The four day sales runs from August 7 -10, 2008. The 630 mile trail now starts in Defiance, Ohio and concludes in Gadsden, Alabama. The route of The World's Longest Yard Sale is an American road trip that brings treasure seekers from far and wide. Bargain and antique shoppers find treasures and nostalgic items at yard sales along the route. There is no limit to what treasures can be found. Booths and tables are filled with a diverse range of merchandise, including musical instruments, furniture, glassware, toys, housewares, tools, jewelry and much more. The World's Longest Garage Sale originated as a plan to bring ravelers from the busy Interstate to the less traveled highways of Tennessee and Kentucky. Homeowners and businesses emptied their attics and garages and sold treasures and trash. Since beginning, the event has grown every year. Homeowners still hold authentic yard sales. Dealers also set up shop along the route, sometimes selling side by side with the homeowners. Towns Along the Route 127 Corridor The Route 127 Corridor passes through a number of small towns. Some of the larger towns and attractions on the route include Covington, Kentucky; Frankfort, Kentucky (near Lexintgon); Jamestown, Tennessee; Crossville, Tennessee; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Lookout Mountain Parkway in Georgia and Gadsen, Alabama. Traffic Yard sales tend to congregate in the small towns along the route. In the sections where there are many yard sales, the traffic slows to a crawl. Cars constantly pull in and out of traffic, as drivers see tempting tables and tents. The best advice in traffic snarls is to be patient and drive defensively. HGTV Features The World's Longest Yard Sale HGTV is a big fan of The World's Longest Yard Sale and features portions of the sale on their cable network program. HGTV features the found treasures at the yard sale and interviews vendors and shoppers, which is always fun to watch. The HGTV website offers additional information about the sale. Tips for a Successful Journey The World's Longest Yard Sale is a unique event. Much of the route is off the beaten path, so many of the conveniences that people are used to seeing in more populated areas may not be readily available. Following are suggestions for a pleasant journey. * Plan a Route. It is tempting to attempt the entire trail, but it is difficult to traverse the entire 630 miles in four days and do justice to the sales at the same time. The official website of the World's Longest Yard sale suggests picking a starting point along the trail and heading either north or south * Make Advance Room Reservations. Hotel and motel rooms often book far in advance, so room reservations along the route may be difficult to find. Some people have success in getting a room by getting slightly off the route to a nearby town. It is a very good idea to make lodging arrangements in advance to make sure that time is not lost in looking for a room during the sale. It is a good idea to find a lodging with a restaurant nearby. Relax over a leisurely dinner near the hotel room * Start Shopping Early. Yard sale experts know the time to shop is early. Vendors in booths along the way have said that the best bargains are often gone within the first hour or two on the first morning. Sometimes, that same merchandise shows up on a dealer's table, marked up for profit. * Bring Cash. Most vendors do not take checks and they may not take credit cards. Bring cash to purchase treasures along the way. Small bills are best. Vendors may run out of small bills. It is easier to negotiate with vendors when using exact change. * Fill Up the Tank, The Stomach and Use the Facilities. Restaurants and gas stations may not alway be handy when needed. Therefore, eat and fill the gas tank whenever possible. Many gas stations along the route close their restrooms, so do not count on using a gas station rest room. Restaurants are the best place to find facilities. Use rest room facilities when they are available to prevent having to look for facilities when it is an emergency. * Bring Snacks and Beverages. Fill coolers with snacks of choice, beverages and water. Great snacks include protein bars, crackers with peanut butter, cheese and fresh fruit. It is not always easy to find these items along the way. * Bring Supplies. Prepare for what may be needed in advance. Suggested supplies include hand wipes, hand sanitizer, sunscreen sun glasses, hat, flashlight, first aid kit, zip lock

What is the name of this 'stop' along the Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline Drive in Virginia?
    Question:
Last summer we went to Virginia and visited the Charlottesville area. We traveled West to Crozet and then got onto Skyline Drive (Parkway) through Shenandoah National Forest. We pulled over at this place that is very memorable but we have no idea what mile marker it is at or what it is called. It's an old home (farmhouse style) set up kind of like an exhibit.. they demonstrate how the families lived in one small home together, raised hens for eggs, gathered water and created refrigeration by damming up the creek. It was really neat and we'd like to take some friends back there. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? There was also a visitor's center right there.

    Answer:
The National Park Service website has a detailed map of the Shenandoah Park. You might be able to find the place you're talking about by looking at that. Such a beautiful area!

What do you think of this shooting on Virginia Tech today ?
    Question:
BLACKSBURG, Va. - A gunman opened fire in a Virginia Tech dorm and then, two hours later, shot up a classroom across campus Monday, killing 32 people in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history. The gunman committed suicide, bringing the death toll to 33. ADVERTISEMENT Students complained that there were no public-address announcements or other warnings on campus after the first burst of gunfire. They said the first word they received from the university was an e-mail more than two hours into the rampage — around the time the gunman struck again. Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said authorities believed that the shooting at the dorm was a domestic dispute and mistakenly thought the gunman had fled the campus. "We had no reason to suspect any other incident was going to occur," he said. He defended the university's handling of the tragedy, saying: "We can only make decisions based on the information you had on the time. You don't have hours to reflect on it." Investigators offered no motive for the attack. The gunman's name was not immediately released, and it was not known if he was a student. The shootings spread panic and confusion on campus. Witnesses reporting students jumping out the windows of a classroom building to escape the gunfire. SWAT team members with helmets, flak jackets and assault rifles swarmed over the campus. Students and faculty members carried out some of the wounded themselves, without waiting for ambulances to arrive. The massacre took place at opposite sides of the 2,600-acre campus, beginning at about 7:15 a.m. at West Ambler Johnston, a coed dormitory that houses 895 people, and continuing at least two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building about a half-mile away, authorities said. Two people were killed in a dormitory room, and 31 others were killed in the engineering building, including the gunman, police said. "Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," Steger said. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified." Steger said the university decided to rely on e-mail and other electronic means of notifying members of the university, but with 11,000 people driving onto campus first thing in the morning, it was difficult to get the word out. He said that before the e-mail went out, the university began telephoning resident advisers in the dorms to notify them and sent people to knock on doors to spread the word. Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum would not say how many weapons the gunman carried. But a law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was incomplete, said that the gunman had two pistols and multiple clips of ammunition. Police said they were still investigating the shooting at the dorm when they got word of gunfire at the classroom building. Some students bitterly questioned why the gunman was able to strike a second time. "What happened today this was ridiculous," student Jason Piatt told CNN. "While they send out that e-mail, 20 more people got killed." Students and Laura Wedin, a student programs manager at Virginia Tech, said the first notification they got of the shootings came in an e-mail at 9:26 a.m., more than two hours after the first shooting. The e-mail had few details. It said: "A shooting incident occurred at West Amber Johnston earlier this morning. Police are on the scene and are investigating." The message warned students to be cautious and contact police about anything suspicious. Student Maurice Hiller said he went to a 9 a.m. class two buildings away from the engineering building, and no warnings were coming over the outdoor public address system on campus at the time. Everett Good, junior, said of the lack of warning: "I'm trying to figure that out. Someone's head is definitely going to roll over that." "We were kept in the dark a lot about exactly what was going on," said Andrew Capers Thompson, a 22-year-old graduate student from Walhalla, S.C. At least 26 people were being treated at three area hospitals for gunshot wounds and other injuries, authorities said. Their exact conditions were not disclosed, but at least one was sent to a trauma center and six were in surgery, authorities said. Up until Monday, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history was in Killeen, Texas, in 1991, when George Hennard plowed his pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria and shot 23 people to death, then himself. The massacre Monday took place almost eight years to the day after the Columbine High bloodbath near Littleton, Colo. On April 20, 1999, two teenagers killed 12 fellow students and a teacher before taking their own lives. Previously, the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history was a rampage that took place in 1966 at the University of Texas at Austin, where Charles Whitman climbed the clock tower and opened fire with a rifle from the 28th-floor observation deck. He killed 16 people before he was shot to death by police. Founded in 1872, Virginia Tech is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia, about 160 miles west of Richmond. With more than 25,000 full-time students, it has the state's largest full-time student population. The school is best known for its engineering school and its powerhouse Hokies football team. The rampage took place on a brisk spring day, with snow flurries swirling around the campus. The campus is centered around the Drill Field, a grassy field where military cadets — who now represent a fraction of the student body — once practiced. The dorm and the classroom building are on opposites sides of the Drill Field. A gasp could be heard at a campus news conference early in the day when the police chief announced that at least 20 people had been killed. Previously, only one person was thought to have been killed. A White House spokesman said President Bush was horrified by the rampage and offered his prayers to the victims and the people of Virginia. "The president believes that there is a right for people to bear arms, but that all laws must be followed," spokeswoman Dana Perino said After the shootings, all entrances to the campus were closed, and classes were canceled through Tuesday. The university set up a meeting place for families to reunite with their children. It also made counselors available and planned an assembly for Tuesday at the basketball arena. After the shooting began, students were told to stay inside away from the windows. Aimee Kanode, a freshman from Martinsville, said the shooting happened on the fourth floor of West Ambler Johnston dormitory, one floor above her room. Kanode's resident assistant knocked on her door about 8 a.m. to notify students to stay put. Police said there had been bomb threats on campus over the past two weeks by authorities but said they have not determined a link to the shootings. It was second time in less than a year that the campus was closed because of a shooting. Last August, the opening day of classes was canceled and the campus closed when an escaped jail inmate allegedly killed a hospital guard off campus and fled to the Tech area. A sheriff's deputy involved in the manhunt was killed on a trail just off campus. The accused gunman, William Morva, faces capital murder charges.

    Answer:
Above and beyond the fact that the VT authorities SAW this coming, they HELPED it by creating a weapon's free, no self-defense zone by denying the law-abiding faculty and students their right to armed self defense on campus. If ONE of the faculty or students had been armed, as is their right under U.S. and state law, not nearly as many may not have died! I hope that the survivors and families of any of the victims that had VA state Concealed Weapons Permits SUE the VT administration and VA State for wrongful death of the victims

Does bad weather or anything affect the signal on digital tvs?
    Question:
I live on the eastern flank of the blue ridge Mountans in Virginia. A friend of my brother gave me an early digital tv a few yeears ago. it was fried in a tstorm .I bought a TruTech digitv for $126. I get a broken pic on some of the digi channels. The words no signal comes on.

    Answer:
Your location seems to indicate that your ability to pick up TV signals can be a problem. If you were getting snowy images in analog, you probably are getting the blocky or No Signal images in digital. You've got some options: Outdoor antenna, preamp, cable/satellite. Bad weather shouldn't affect the frequency bands where broadcast TV sits on. It's more a problem with the higher frequencies for satellite.

Do you think People Who Live In Southern Virginia Have A southern Accent?
    Question:
Like In The Blue Ridge Mountains. Is it a good or bad accent?

    Answer:
I'm from the upper midwest, so yes, in my opinion, people in s. Virginia definitely have an accent. It's a nice accent, easy enough for me to understand. By the way, I absolutely LOVE the Blue Ridge Mountains and that whole area. The people are SO nice! I've noticed a southern accent in the general public as far north as central Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, which really surprised me. I always thought "southern" started a little further south.

In the following sentence, would you put a comma after the word tomorrow?
    Question:
Tomorrow we shall drive on to the Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

    Answer:
I wouldn´t. But, then, English is not my first language. Just to try: To me, "tomorrow" is directly linked to the rest of the sentence. I would say that by placing it where you did, you are emphasizing the day. Now, if "tomorrow" was placed in the last position, I would put a comma before it.

    Answer:
"Take me Home Country Roads" by John Denver or is it just: "Country Roads"

Native English speakers please help me with this!?
    Question:
It's about a song-Take Me Home, Country Roads Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze Country roads, take me home to the place I belong West Virginia, mountain momma*** Take me home, country roads Questions: West Virginia, mountain momma*** 1) What does "mountain momma" stand for? 2) I think it should be in capital letters: "Mountain Momma" I'm not sure. What do you think? 2) I guess it should be "Momma Mountain", just like "Mother Mary", "Grandma Erickson", etc. The lyric writer put it in this way only for "mountain momma" to rhyme with "West Virginia". Am I right? What do you think? Please explain in details^_^ Thank you in advance!

    Answer:
I dont think it needs capitalization. Mountain momma makes reference to the fact that the singer wants to go home to his "mountain momma" or west virginia. It does not reference any particular person. Just a metaphor for the place that he calls home. Its like being called a "son of the south" you and I both know that the south was not involved in the creation, gestation or birth of someone,
