City DescriptionBurlington is the largest city in the U.S. state of Vermont and is the shire town (county seat) of Chittenden County. With a population of 38,889 at the 2000 census, the city is the core of one of the nation's smaller metropolitan areas, and is also the smallest U.S. city that is the largest city in its state. The urbanized area consists of the cities of Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski; the towns of Colchester, Essex, and Williston; and the village of Essex Junction. As of 2000, the metropolitan area contained the three northwestern Vermont counties of Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle, with an estimated 2006 population of 206,007, approximately one third of Vermont's total population.
Burlington has a city council-mayor form of government.Democrats and the Progressive Party share seats. Bob Kiss, the current mayor, is a Progressive who was elected in 2006. The City Council has 14 seats, which are currently occupied by 5 Democrats, 4 Progressives, 3 Republicans, and 2 Independents. Questions Possibly Related to Burlington, VermontProvided By Y! Answers
Burlington, Vermont? Question: Howdy. I'm from AZ and the farthest East I've ever been is Detroit, and that was a layover at the airport. I start my new job in a couple of weeks and will have free flight benefits and want to travel somewhere back East that's not a metropolis.
I've been thinking about Burlington, Vermont. Does anyone know of some neat places to check out while I'm there in terms of scenery or history or cool restaurants or anything? I'm hoping to go maybe in the middle of September...
(I'm posting this in the Boston board because it's the closest city to)
Answer:
I just came back from Burlington, VT. I'm from So. Cal, and Burlington is very "country". I stayed in Stowe, about 30 mi east of Burlington. But before heading to Stowe, I drove south on I-89 to Shelbourne and visited Shelbourne Farms. You get a great view of Lake Champlain (besides the view coming in). The farm is a great tourist spot-less than $10 to tour the farm- you see how cheese is made, farmyard for both kids and adults alike. View from highest point of farm goes as far as New York. To get to Stowe, travel on the 89 east towards Waterbury, exit 100 and you'll hit the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. Tour is only $3 and you get to taste and sample. Continue on 100 to Stowe/Mt. Mansfield and there are alot of places to visit and experience - Alpine Slide on Mt. Mansfield, Depot Street Malt Shoppe (best shakes/ice cream/burgers/fries in town), visit Stowe Mercantile and sample all the different types of cheeses and spreads made from Vermont's maple syrup... yummy... so different than Mrs. Butterworth's (lol)...
I drove to Boston from Stowe. It's about 210 miles. It was one of the easiest drives - just 2 highways... the 89 east to the 93 south. The drive was about 3 hours. But be careful, state police visible.

How long will a flight from Burlington Vermont to Roatan Honduras be?
Answer:
Well, you'll probably fly to Houston and get on a flight to Roatan from there.
If you take Continental, my favorite, it's a little over an hour to Newark, then about 4 hours to Houston, and finally a little less than 3 hours to Roatan.
So, it will take a while, but it's REALLY worth it, and Continental is terrific. Free food still, and last trip I took to Houston (from Baltimore) had THREE drink services.

A vacation to Burlington, Vermont and Montreal, Canada? Question: My mother is taking me and a french friend to burlington, VA and montreal, Canada. We like to go to cities and explore, but would also like to see the countryside of Canada and vermont.
Where should we go?
We probably would not like to go more than 1 1/2 hours away from either place. We like to go to small towns, fairs or festivals too. in both Burlington and Montreal, are there any places to see animals (domestic) or wildlife?
Also, in montreal, are there certain places they speak more french than others.
Answer:
Don't worry Montreal is very bilingual. You can stay in the city to do other stuff. Don't go all the way to Hudson unless if you are looking for antiques. Nothing to do there except antiquing or just sitting and watching a lake! Go there when you retire
Don't go to the Ben and Jerry factory! Takes for ever to get there. All you see is an 18 minute history movie, 5 minutes of seeing the factory from an arial view and then you get a scoop of ice cream. I was sooooo disappointed!
Instead:
To see animals you can either go to Parc Safari. It's cool cause you are in the car and can touch and feed the animals. Bring your own carrot bag.
There is also Granby zoo.
Montreal has so much to offer:
Chinatown
shopping downtown on Ste-Catherine between Atwater and Berri.
Really neat shops on Mont-Royal near the metro.
St-Laurent and St-Denis street
The biodome, insectarium.
La Ronde.
Have fun and don't waste too much time traveling by car!

Why are winters in Juneau Alaska milder than winters in Burlington Vermont? Question: I need it for a paper. The answers is either latitude, altitude, ocean currents, or all of the above. All help is greatly appericated! :)
Answer:
I know why it is, but none of those answers really captures it. But if limited to those, it is clearly, "ocean currents"
I'll try to give a complete answer:
It is NOT lattitude, because Juneau is further north by 11 or 12 degrees. That's a lot, as much as between Los Angeles and Portland, OR.
Nor is it elevation. Juneau is at sea level, Burington is at 95 feet at Lake Champlain, about 200 feet in town. A trivial difference.
But Juneau has, upwind of it, the Pacific Ocean. At a lattitude where the ocean never freezes. That is a tremendous heat source. That moderates the temps you'd expect to see so far north. So Junea near gets very cold (not hot in summer) kind of like VERY northern Seattle in my mind.
Burlington is inland and Lake Champlain has much, much less effect that the Pacific Ocean. Basically, VT sees air blowing off of northern Canada. And continential air can get COLD during the winter when radiant cooling during the long nights is greater than the low-angle solar input of short winter days.

Does anyone know of a nice hotel in Burlington, Vermont thats in the center of everything? Question: One that we can just walk out the door and find places to shop and eat.
Answer:
Sure! There are two hotels in downtown Burlington. One is the brand new Marriott Residence Inn. Next to it is the newly renovated Burlington Hilton. You can get views of Lake Champlain from these hotels. They are also a ten minute walk from Church Street. These are really your only two options if you want to stay right in downtown Burlington. how much does it cost to go to Berlin Ireland from Burlington Vermont? Question: i need to know this. please anser
Answer:
Well, I'll be honest with you: More information is needed. Do you need a rental vehicle and hotel?
This is just an estimate but feel free to check out the website below to see what is best for you! :-)
The least expensive cost for just one person is around $980. This price includes the flight and hotel to Berlin from Burlington, VT. The hotel is called "Hotel Hoppegarten in Berlin". It's a four star hotel near great amenities. I used the dates of November 5th through November 14th. Just a piece of advice, it is a little bit cheaper to travel during the week than it is on weekends..
Hope I helped and safe travels for you!
