How safe is it where you live..? Do you agree with the list of the first 25 cities listed in the survey...?
    Question:
(Oct. 30) - A list of the safest and most dangerous cities overall, as compiled by Morgan Quitno Press, which bases the rankings on FBI figures. The list starts with the safest cities and ends with the most dangerous. Only cities that reported crime rates were included in the list. For example, New Orleans was not included this year because its police department did not report figures. 1. Brick, N.J. 2. Amherst, N.Y. 3. Mission Viejo, Calif. 4. Newton, Mass. 5. Troy, Mich. 6. Colonie, N.Y. 7. Irvine, Calif. 8. Cary, N.C. 9. Greece, N.Y. 10. Coral Springs, Fla. 11. Thousand Oaks, Calif. 12. Orem, Utah 13. Round Rock, Texas 14. Dover, N.J. 15. Lake Forest, Calif. 16. Sterling Heights, Mich. 17. Simi Valley, Calif. 18. Roswell, Ga. 19. Lee's Summit, Mo. 20. Broken Arrow, Okla. 21. Chino Hills, Calif. 22. Gilbert, Ariz. 23. Edison, N.J. 24. Cranston, R.I. 25. Port St. Lucie, Fla.

    Answer:
No matter what the crime rate is where you live, you should never consider yourself to be completely safe. I have known people who live in gated communities who have been robbed and beaten. Just because you live behind a gate doesn't insure your safety. I looked at that list and didn't see a single city within 100 miles of where I lived and I looked at the whole thing! I guess some of us just live out where most of America doesn't see us!

what do you think about these schools?
    Question:
Amherst College Boston College Boston University Brandeis University Clark University Emerson College Fordham University Hampshire College New York University Penn State Trinity College (Connecticut) University of Texas Williams College anny comments or concerns are welcolme!!

    Answer:
the most prestigious on this list are amherst and williams, they are small liberal arts schools in the northeast that have served many generations of new england's elite. texas and penn state are huge public institutions. texas is the more selective of the two. NYU is the most popular school in new york, and is one of the largest private universities in the nation. it has great film and arts programs. boston u and boston college are breeding grounds for future yuppies of america. both are very good schools. brandeis has a lot of jewish students. if your academic credentials are top notch, i would decide first if you want a small liberal arts college environment (amherst), a midsize university (boston college), or a big university (texas). then narrow it down.

The same holds true for Stanford. High number of applications, low acceptance rate. Just apply to all colleges. Chances are pretty good you'll get into a few.

Why do most people think the Native Americans got "slaughtered"???
    Question:
Like the Cherokee, most tribes were isolated and with a decentralized government with allowed the British, French, Spanish, and finally the U.S. to defeat them in battle or very well lose about half a dozen wars to induce treaties like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_H... "In his book The Wild Frontier: Atrocities during the American-Indian War from Jamestown Colony to Wounded Knee, amateur historian William M. Osborn sought to tally every recorded atrocity in the area that would eventually become the continental United States, from first contact (1511) to the closing of the frontier (1890), and determined that 9,156 people died from atrocities perpetrated by Native Americans, and 7,193 people died from those perpetrated by Europeans. Osborn defines an atrocity as the murder, torture, or mutilation of civilians, the wounded, and prisoners.[3]" 54 minutes ago - 3 days left to answer. Additional Details 52 minutes ago I also have counted the battles east and west of the Mississippi and the tally is something around, 8,727 (Amerindians) to 11,217 (U.S./British/French) The area around the Great Lakes was a stalemate represented by Pontiac's Rebellion, so I won't go there. The term Sixty Years' War is not widely known, and is used primarily by academic historians who specialize in various aspects of the conflict. Traditionally, the war for control of the Great Lakes region has been written about only in reference to the individual wars; the designation Sixty Years' War provides a framework for viewing this era as a continuous whole. 43 minutes ago Actually, I have a lot of history books. Flames Across the Border, Pierre Berton --- Dictionary of Wars: Third Edition --- Stolen Continents: 500 years of Conquest and Resistance --- some others at my library i read that I forget. 35 minutes ago I can see some of you actually read my details, but for the rest, here is what usually happened: Great Lakes region of North America Result Military stalemate; American Indians concede British sovereignty but compel British policy changes Territorial changes Portage around Niagara Falls ceded by Senecas to the British Belligerents British Empire American Indians Commanders Jeffrey Amherst, Henry Bouquet Pontiac, Guyasuta Strength ~3,000 soldiers[1] ~3,500 warriors[2] Casualties and losses 450 soldiers killed, 2,000 civilians killed or captured, 4,000 civilians displaced ~200 warriors killed, possible additional war-related deaths from DISEASE <-------- ;) 22 minutes ago Anyway, I can see some of you don't like to read books so I'll conclude by saying, "We fought and fought like Braves to compel respect. We inflicted just as much casualties as you did us, yet the few times like the Navajo gets routed and sent far from their homeland overrides the victories of the Seminole, Chichimeca, Mapuche, Tlaxcallas, Zacateco, Guachichil, Iroquois, Comanche (who NEVER gave up their homeland to this day), and countless other tribes like us Cree and Anishnabe who hold vast amounts of land to this day. I know in my heart that, like in Europe --- which was ravage to the point of 1/3 its population dying from the Plague ALONE --- the Creator's diseases is what killed my people."

    Answer:
It wasn't the battles fought and lost that caused the near genocide of the first nations on Turtle Island, it was the thievery and genocidal actions of the Settler culture. Read, for one: The State of Native America : genocide, colonization, and resistance

What colleges do I need to see in the Northeast?
    Question:
I'm going to New York City, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and maybe Pennsylvania in about a week. I will be a senior next year and I want a college that is pretty chill but also has some semblance of intellect. My SAT score total was 2080 (690 critical reading, 700 math, and 690 writing) and I go to a pretty well known Texas high school that produces high achievers. I want a college where I can learn and be engaged, while also getting to know people and my professors. Any ideas? I've looked at Monmouth University in NJ, which looks appealing, as well as UMass Amherst. Ideally, I'd like a college with between 3000-8000 undergrads, but I'm still pretty open on that. Also, good scholarships would be a definite plus, of course. I know I should probably have a better idea of where I'd like to go this late in the game, but right now, all I can think about is how much longer I have to stay here. Thanks for your ideas! My GPA is around 3.65-3.7. Financially, I really need scholarships wherever I go, so Ivies are kind of out of the question.

    Answer:
You don't mention your GPA or your financial situation, but you have really high SATs, why are you looking at such midrange schools? If your grades match your SATs (3.8+) you should consider Ivies and near Ivies: Columbia, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, UPenn, Cornell, Amherst (diff than Umass), and the schools listed for lower GPAs. If your grades are solid, but not stellar (3.3-3.7) you should consider: Fordham, NYU, BU, BC, Rutgers, Conneticut College, Vassar, Skidmore, Sarah Lawrence, Farleigh Dickinson, Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Temple. If you are limiting yourself to state schools, consider Hunter, Rutgers, SUNY New Paltz, and Cornell (depending on your intended degree some schools are state and some are private at Cornell).

What are some good computer science colleges for me?
    Question:
I'm 16 right now and a junior. i'm from texas and my GPA (on a 7-pt scale) is 6.5, but on a 4-pt scale it would be 4.0 or 3.75 depending on how they count honors credits. My class rank is 84 out of 1200 kids, putting me in the top 7%. But anyways my top interests for college are computer science, math/finance, and French language, with comp sci being at the top. I don't want to live too far off the coast (like indiana or ohio or wherever), but MA or CT or somewhere like that. What are some good colleges that I should consider? Right now I'm thinking about UMass Amherst, but I'm not sure of any others...

Chances of Admission? Help much appreciated!?
    Question:
What are my chances of admission at the following schools? I am high school sophomore. I currently have a weighted 96 GPA (roughly a 4.0, according to Princeton Review), am enrolled, on average, in 2 or 3 Pre AP classes a year, have a great grasp (I wouldn't say fluent, but by the end of the end of high school I will be) in Spanish and French (as well as, of course, my native English), have won numerous Journalism awards, am involved in UIL Academic Team, Newspaper, Debate and Speech, FCS (Fellowship of Christian Students), Spanish Club, French Club (I'm on the French Club Social Committee), Student Council, and the Eco Club. I have been published in my city's newspaper as well as my school's and hold an internship with my suburb's local paper. I volunteer at the local library, zoo (this summer alone I volunteered 118 hours), and history museums. My volunteer hours as of now are roughly 250-300. Since I am not old enough to hold a real job, I also grade papers for a second grade teacher (I don't know what good this will do on my application, but...) Next summer I am planning on spending 5 weeks at Georgetown University or SMU taking classes so I can get college credit (and a real look at college life), taking a required computer class with my school so I can open up more room for classes I want to take as a junior, such as Music History and Theory of Knowledge. Also, I will be taking Spanish, Latin, and French classes at a local university. I will be taking a tour with my parents of East Coast and Northeast colleges and univesities I'm interested in, interviewing, touring the campuses, etc. Lastly, I will be studying abroad, probably to Italy, the summer between my Junior and Senior years. The schools I am interested in are (I organized them neatly)... SAFETY *The University of Texas at Austin *The University of Arizona *The University of George *Auburn University *LSU GOOD MATCH *Tulane *Emory *SMU *UCLA *The University of Miami *USC *University of Virginia *NYU REACH *Dartmouth (my first choice) *Georgetown *Brown University *Stanford *Vanderbilt *Cornell *Amherst *Williams *Middlebury *Bowdoin *Vassar *Haverford Any tips, advice, criticisms, and thoughts you have are much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, unfortunately, only being a sophomore, I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet...:(
