Questions Possibly Related to Alto, TexasProvided By Y! Answers
Why do people think that it's okay to hurt cats? Why don't they stop people that hurt animals? Question: PETA RALLIES SUPPORTERS TO DEMAND CHARGES AGAINST JUVENILE IN CAT SHOOTING County prosecutor silent on charges despite mound of evidence.
PETA Warns That 13-Year-01d Could Pose Serious Risk to Community.
In Alto, Texas after a 13-ycarold Alto boy reportedly admitted to the January 4 fatal shooting of a cat on the animal's family's property and an ensuing investigation turned up further evidence of the crime. PETA wrote to Cherokee County Attorney Craig Caldwell urging him to file felony cruelty-to-animals charges against the boy in accordance with the Texas Penal Code. In his reply, Caldwcll stated that because the suspect is a juvenile, Caldwell could not release records and files on the case-despite the fact that PETA was only requesting that he say whether or not charges will be filed.
Now, more than three months after Tctsu, a l-yeat-old cat was found dead in the yard by his guardian-who reportedly also saw the boy brandishing a shotgun nearby-no charges have been filed, and Caldwell isn't talking. PETA has posted an action alert on its heavily trafficked Web site urging visitors to contact Caldwell and demand that the boy be charged to the fullest extent of the law.
PETA points out that such heinous crimes against animals are a red flag, especially when committed by juveniles. FBI interviews with murderers showed that 36 percent had tortured and killed animals as children and that 46 percent had done so as adolescents. Serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer, Albert DeSalvo (the Boston Strangler"), David Berkowitz ("Son of sam") and Lce Boyd Malvo all had histories of killing animals. In recent years, many schools have suffered the tragic consequences of ignoring or casually dismissing such crimes when children opened fire on schoolmates and other people.
"Mr, Caldwell's job is to uphold and enforce the laws, and he's refusing even to state whether or not charges will be brought against Tetsu's allegedly confessed killer " says PETA Director Daphna Nachnlinovilch. "Repeat offenders are the rule - not the exception- among the animal abusers. Failing to act now may only encourage further abuses and killing."
PETA'S correspondence with Cherokee County Attorney Craig Caldwell is available upon request. For more information, please visit PETA.org

best place to live near palo alto? Question: we may be moving for my husbands job. i now live in Austin, texas and would like an idea of what we may be getting ourselves into.
Answer:
I spent my first 20 years in Redwood City and Palo Alto and the surrounding area. If you don't want to be in Palo Alto, but near it, I would recommend (roughly in order of price range) Los Altos Hills, Portola Valley, Atherton, Stanford, Woodside, Los Altos, Mountain View, Menlo Park, Redwood City, and San Carlos. They are all pretty safe and convenient places to live with pretty good public schools. I would avoid East Palo Alto, although it is getting safer recently. If you are willing to commute I would add Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and Fremont.

Which place in America do you dream of living in? Question: As for me, I dreamt of several places, like the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois...the suburbs of Dallas, Texas...and the suburbs of San Jose (like Palo Alto and Los Altos).
Oh! I almost forgot! I would've loved to live in the border between North Carolina and Tennessee; in the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains!
Now which place(s) did you dream of living in? In your daydreaming of course!
Answer:
I've always wanted to own a small home in Maine. I'd love to live along the rocky coast of Maine where I can hear the ocean all day and night. I'd also be close to places in New Hampshire where I can go to the mountains and enjoy the snow for a weekend. I'm sick of the Missouri weather, and I'm so far from a beach that I cherish any time I do get to spend near the sea. Maine is cooler and near the water and I hope someday I'll get to retire to my house on the sea.

Can we keep on going about Texas bluesmen? Question: Everybody mentioned some great names. I forgot to include Johnny Winter, which is unforgiveable since he was the first concert I was allowed to see without parental oversight at age 15. It was in May of 1970 in the old Warehouse in New Orleans, a legendary concert spot in the 70s.
Johnny had his original band of Tommy Shannon on bass and Uncle John Turner on drums. He played two sets, and during each, Edgar would come out and join on keyboards and alto sax. That was the first time I saw Edgar perform his version of "Tobacco Road". He and Johnny also teamed up on Ray Charles' "Tell The Truth". What a night.
He played a Les Paul for his main guitar, then used an electric Fender 12 string for the slide work (the short lived solid body). Blew my mind wide open.
Edgar Winter was born in Beaumont.
Johnny Winter was born in Leland, Mississippi, in the Delta. I used to date a schoolteacher from there and scored points when we met by knowing that. He has a song "Leland Mississippi Blues" where he sings "Y'all know that's where I come from".
Answer:
A kindred spirit, I love it. I saw Johnny Winter at Filmore East in 1970 at the concert that produced the Allman Brothers Band Live at the Filmore. Elvin Bishop also was on the bill. At the end of Winters' set all three bands jammed until 8am the next morning. Those were the days, eh bro?

Jazz Alto Sax help? PLEASE!!!? Question: I'm a pretty advanced player... natural talent I guess (es: in 7th grade I was moved into the high school wind ensemble as 1st chair in a Texas band)
But I just joined Jazz band. Which is very new to me.
I'm actually a little scared to play out. Assuming that I'll get it wrong.
But anyways, my Jazz teacher is telling me to go get a Meyer 5 mouthpiece.
First question, is that any good? What are some other great Jazz mouthpieces?
I play a Keilwerth 'Shadow' so is that a good sax for Jazz? I adore it. But I don't want to sound out of place.
Also, I currently switch from Vandoren 3 reeds so Brancher Opera reeds.
For the Meyer 5 or whatever it is you recommend, what reed should I use?
Please help ASAP and thanks!!!
Answer:
1.. see my answer to your original question about what an M5 is.
2. Yes Meyer is a good jazz mouthpiece... but their are many others..
Vandoren, Brilhart, Morgan, Jody Jazz, Runyon, Lakey, Berg Larson, Otto Link to name a few...and that's sticking strictly in the Hard Rubber arena. You really need to go try a few of these, and see what works for you. Meyer's have the longtime reputation of being "THE" alto jazz mouthpiece. But honestly, the new ones ain't what the old ones used to be, and all the old ones have been refaced, to the point that they don't play the same way they did when they were new. They'll all been modified to meet the needs of each individual player. Mouthpieces for saxophone players can be a very addictive bad habit. Everyone is searching for that piece that turns them into David Sanborn, or John Coltrane. It's not about the mouthpiece. That is a small part of it. The mouthpiece is just a tool, that helps get you in the general direction of where you want to be tonally. Most people sound similar on most pieces. You want to find a piece that helps you get in the ball park of the sound you are aiming for. That's the best you can do. FWIW..Vandoren is putting out the most consistent mouthpieces today.
3. Keilwerth Shadow is a PRO horn, and an excellent one at that.. great for jazz!!!.. but any horn can be used for jazz.. again its not about that.. equipment is not the reason good players sound good.
4. Reeds - I would say stick with Vandoren V16 or even better Vandoren Java's for your jazz setup. These are going to have a little more "pop" and "buzz", and make your sound a little more bright, which is what you are going for.
The size of the reed is going to depend on the mouthpiece you pick, and how large a tip opening you get. If your playing 3's now, I am assuming your playing either your Keilworth stock piece, or a Selmer C* or something similar...which is going to have a pretty small tip opening, you might have to slide down a 1/2 strength..again depending on the tip size, but don't go down, if you don't have to.
5. Your not gonna sound out of place with any setup, unless you play poorly, play out of tune, play out of time, or out of style.
Jazz is about style. Someone mentioned swing. Yes, swing.. but what does that mean to you??
Jazz IS about swing. But how do you swing.. how do you get that feel? Actually, believe it or not, a lot of it is in articulation.
In jazz music, eighth notes are played and sound sort of like dotted 8th/16th rhythms.. but they aren't, if you played them that way, it would sound cheesy, and bouncy. That sound and feel comes from the articulation.. you tongue off-beats and slur into downbeats.
Here's an example to demonstrate what I'm talking about in how to play jazz 8th notes.

Good luck!!!

did you know the U.S.A bought the land that the mexican's claim that is their's? Question: WARS - Mexican American War
1846-1848
With the annexation of Texas in early 1845, war with Mexico became all but inevitable. President James K. Polk hoped to settle matters peacefully but was determined to have his way by war if necessary. In November 1845 he sent John Slidell to Mexico with an offer of $5,000,000 for the purchase of New Mexico and $25,000,000 for California. The offer was refused. On May 9, 1846, word reached Washington, D.C. that American troops had been attacked by Mexican forces on April 4. Polk asked Congress, and was granted, a declaration of war. Congress authorized the president to call for 50,000 volunteers and appropriated $10,000,000. Congress and the nation, however, were far from united on the idea of waging war. Southerners favored war as likely to extend slave territory, while notherners opposed the war for the same reason.
President James K. Polk ordered U.S. troops into the region in southern Texas disputed with Mexico, between roughly parallel Nueces and Rio Grande rivers. The commanding general was Zachary Taylor.
1846- Battle of Palo Alto, the first important engagement of the Mexican War, was faught, with the Mexicans on the losing side.
1846- Battle of Resaca de la Palma, U.S. forces under General Taylor forced the Mexican army back across the Rio Grande.
1846- U.S. forces crossed the Rio Grande, led by General Zachary Taylor. The Americans occupied Matamoros.
1846- Monterrey, Mexico, was captured by U.S. forces under General Zachary Taylor after a four day engagement that made "Old Rough and Ready" Taylor, a Whig, into a national hero. His relations with President Polk, a Democrat, cooled subsequently.
1847- Battle of Buena Vista, U.S. forces under General Zachary Taylor defeated the Mexicans under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.
1847- U.S. forces under General Winfield Scott landed near Vera Cruz, Mexico. Some 10,000 troops landed in the Western Hemisphere, in what was the first large=scale amphibious operation in U.S. history. Scott began a siege of Vera Cruz on March 22. The fortress fell on March 27 and was occupied two days later. On April 8 Scott moved toward Mexico City.
1847- To negotiate peace with Mexico, President James K. Polk appointed as his special agent Nicholas P. Trist, a State Department veteran.
1847- At Cerro Gordo General Winfield Scott, marching on Mexico City, met and defeated a Mexican force of about 13,000.
1847- Peace negotiations with Mexico were initiated through the British minister, Charles Bankhead.
1847- At Churubusco General Winfield Scott defeated a Mexican army of 20,000.
1847- At the Battle of Molino del Rey U.S. forces under General Winfield Scott defeated an estimated 12,000 Mexicans.
1848- The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed by the U.S. and Mexico on February 2, 1848, formally ended the Mexican War (1846-1848). By the terms Mexico recobnized Texas as part of the U.S. and ceded to the U.S. over 500,000 square miles of territory, including all of the future states of California, Nevada, and Utah, almost all of New Mexico and Arizona, and parts of Colorado and Wyoming. In return the U.S. agreed to pay Mexico $15,000,000 and to assume the claims of U.S. citizens against Mexico, amounting to $3,250,000. The U.S. became an enormous continental republic, but the acquisition of the new territory aggravated the dispute between slavery and antislavery forces. The war resulted in 1721 dead and 4102 wounded. In addition, some 11,155 Americans died of disease as a result of the war. The total cost of the war was estimated at $97,500,000.

Answer:
Not only social security, but schools and health care services are also being used by illegal aliens. They have no right to school or medical care if they are here illegally. They are breaking the law and they should be put in jail and then sent back to Mexico. Why should people who break the law be given any kind of reward or should be allowed to use any government benefits. I see all these rallies on t.v and they are all saying how they are Americans, but they are not Americans at all, they are law breakers and should pay like anyone else. I'm sorry that Mexico is so messed up, but it is not the job of the United states to help you out. I'm sure that if Americans started to cross into Mexico in huge numbers, the government of Mexico would be up in arms and the boarder would look more like a war zone. Mexico wants illegals here because it helps out Mexico, they don't put any money back into the u.s.a, they send it back home. And people also say how they are only taking jobs that Americans won't do, that's a bunch of crap, because they take good jobs from Americans and they drive our wages way down, why pay me 15 dollars an hour when they can pay an illegal 8 dollars to do the same job. Its wrong and has to stop.

Where should i go to college?!?!?!? Question: I'm a senior in high school and have 2 months to decide where to attend college next fall. I have options, but just don't know where to go!
Let me tell you about myself. I'm the valedictorian of my class. I play the French horn and Mellophone and am a rank leader in my high school band. I am also senior class president and a varsity cheerleader. Outside of school I love to play the piano (have played for 10 years), work out and run, go shopping, and just have a good time with friends. I want to be a pharmacist.
I've been accepted to five different schools:
1.) United States Military Academy at West Point
2.) University of Texas at Austin
3.) University of Colorado at Boulder
4.) Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA
5.) Cornell University in Ithaca, NY
I just don't know where to go....they all have their pros and cons. At USMA, I would have a great experience, be a cheerleader, and serve my country. At UT, I would get the 1st year free, a great job, and a car.
Colorado is a good option, because I love skiing and the weather. Stanford is a wonderful university. My dad is an alumni and my sister is currently a sophomore there. Cornell is just a place that I think I will like and it's in New York!
Please help me decide what to do....
Answer:
A cheerleader at USMA??? Are you kidding? You'll learn to be an Army officer and after graduation you'll undoubtedly immediately be sent to the Middle East, where we'll be involved for another generation. If that's what you want to do, fine, because we need good officers, but it certainly doesn't lead to a pharmacy profession!
Other than that, I agree with everybody else. Go to Stanford. You'll be a legacy student and having a sister there already will make the leaving home stuff a lot easier. It's a great school in a great area.
By the way, you must have an amazing family. That list is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations.
OK, here comes the scolding. With the abilities you obviously have, I can't believe you're looking at a career doling out pills. Yeah, yeah, I know there's more to it than that, but basically that's what pharmacy is. Aim higher, girl. You obviously have what's required.

Proof of residence for San Antonio city college? Question: My husband and I just moved to San Antonio in July and purchased a home in august. I would like to start attending Palo Alto in the fall of this year but as I undrestand it you need to prove residence of one year with a Texas drivers license and car regestration. My husbands license was up for renewal when we arrived in july so he already has his Texas license. But unfortunatley I decided to wait and even if I register for my license now I still will not be able to attend in Sept. Does anyone know a way around this? Is there any other paper work the college system accepts that I can use to prove I've been here a year by sept?
It's the out of state tuition I am trying to avoid
Answer:
Actually, your driver's license has a code on the front that allows someone to determine when you got that driver's license.

Anyone looking for a SAXOPHONE?? Question: i have a Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Series II Professional Alto Saxophone that I bought brand new 5 years ago and I am looking to sell! I marched in the marching band in high school, took it to state competition in Austin 4 times, and it even made a trip with me to play in Washington DC once before.
It has a high f# key, handcrafted engraving onthe bell, recently replaced pads, and it plays better than any sax i've ever picked up=] it has a warm, resonant sound that goes perfect for any genre that you are wanting to play, whether its jazz, classical, or even more contemporary styles.
Also in the package is a hardwood case, outside leather protective case, C-star mouthpiece, ligature, and cover, neckstrap, and i've even thrown in a lyer!=]
I bought this saxophone brand new for $3,800 but i am only looking to sell it for $950, which is a GREAT DEAL!, considering it still plays like new=] i live in northeast texas so email me!
Answer:
Oooh very, very tempting. I'd might go for it, if I knew I'd play it. lol I don't even play my Selmer Bundy II. lol I'm more of a Bari sax man, if I could find one cheaper. Even a tenor would do.

Answer:
People think it is okay to hurt animals in general because they are "just animals" which is absolute bullcrud. We need to raise the penalties for animal abuse, endangerment, and neglect. From the information provided, I do want to mention that I think the person that shot the cat and the owner of the cat should both be punished, because if the cat was inside, he would not have been in the position to be shot.
The ASPCA is also working to increase penalties for animal related crimes, hopefully making these instances felanies.

Answer:
No one in the above article think that it's okay to hurt cats. No one here NOR all the other answers to your REPEATED same question said it is ok to hurt cats (or animals in general).
This question is not a question at all but an article with request for a petition to write to PETA or Craig Caldwell.
Please if you want to ask a question - ASK. Don't use it to propogate PETA's ideas.
