Amateur Radio Related. I'm interested in finding out about a Texas state wide repeater system for 2 Meters. Question: I am interested in finding out about a Texas state wide repeater system for 2 meters or 440. I will be traveling from Houston to the West (Alpine) Texas on a regular basis. I have found information on the Satlgrass Repeater system. Is there another one? My route of travel is highway ten from Houston, through San Antonio and all points West. Any thoughts? 73.
Answer:
I've found some links to lists of repeaters in Texas. I hope this helps.
If you don't have the ARRL Repeater Directory, you might pick one of for the $20 asking price. It's pocket sized, so it fits in the glove box, and is handy when traveling.

How much is my truck worth? Question: Ok Ive done Kelley Blue book and it told me 5 grand. Its a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 2wd 4.8l v8 280,000 miles. Its not that i think its worth more just wondering with all the extras. It runs great new fuel pump new water pump new catalyc converters flowmaster exhaust. It does have a small dent on the left side in the bed and its scratched up. Inside It has an alpine deck and two bazooka 12" subs (louder then you'd think) and 2 pioneer 6"x9"s and stock speakers have been replaced with sony explods. If it helps i live in west Texas. What do you think My truck is worth?
Answer:
It doesnt generally matter about all of the cool or new stuff you put on it, if your trying to trade it in you will get MUCH less than it is worth this is because they want to buy it at wholesale prices, because they still have to sell it again...
If you plan on selling it private party, than you may get a little bit more for it, depending on the people that coem to look at it, some do not care about those things, and others do, it all depends on how you advertise it...
As i said before, Extras dont mean a thing as far as selling a vehicle... Sorry but they dont.. That is the hard thing about putting so much money into a vehicle....
But i would try to sell it privately and see what you get...
It depends on if you are trying to purchase another vehicle from a car lot or not, because you must remember you will NEVER get what your car is worth from a car lot....
And they definetly dont care about the extras..
Hope this helps.
I would put it up for around 5800, so you have some room to butdge a little in the price if someone wants to bargain.
Sorry so long

I've looked at recent questiones like this and i see you get these alot....but please give me serious answers! Question: Im 13 yrs old I live in Alpine,Texas. My ultimate goal is to become famous. I've been told by so many people that my voice is beautiful. Also that im a fantastic actress in school plays. Im wondering if there are any castings for Hannah Montana. That is my favorite show, and I would give anything to be on it! So please help me if there is any way! and if not tell me if there are other shows, movies, even commercials I could be on! And if I need an agent please tell me how to get one! Im desperate! This is my dream and I want it to be a reality!
Answer:
Hanna Montana is filmed in Los Angeles, California.
There are auditions everyday for television programs.
Ask your parents to find an acting teacher, in Alpine, or another town.
If your school has a theater department, audition for a part that is right for you. When Keep auditioning. When you go to Jr. High School and High School, audition for all of the plays.
Alpine, Texas, is only as far as your dreams go, my friend.
I'm a native Texan and I understand how you feel.
What I did, as a child, was read as many plays as I could find. Go to your school library and ask the librarian for plays.
If they don't have any, ask your mom to drive you to the public library so you can check-out plays.
Read as many plays as you can, imagine yourself in the role of the characters as you read them.
Best of luck.

Have You Ever Heard Of This HS Football Team? Question: This School Is In Alpine, Texas (Where I Live) And Right Now(Friday 10-31-08) We Just Lost To One Of The Best Football Teams In West Texas the 'Kermit Yellow Jackets'.
Alpine and Kermit Were Both 8-0 (Overall) and 3-0 (in district) Until Tonight!
***Im Pissed***
Have You Even Heard Of Kermit? And We Lost 34-28
Next Week We Play Probably The Best Football Team In West Texas Who Has Probably The Best HS Band In Texas..
The 'Crane Golden Cranes'
Kermit And Crane Played Eachother Lastweek And Kermit Won...Sooo..
Have You Heard Of These Three High School Football Teams?
(1) Alpine Fightin' Bucks In Alpine, Texas
(2)Kermit Yellow Jackets In Kermit, Texas
(3)Crane Golden Crane's In Crane Texas
Answer:
Yes, I have. Both Kermit and Crane typically have good football teams every year. Alpine is hit and miss. They were really good about 10 years ago, then they disappeared for a few years, and now they're back again with a playoff caliber team. My point is you shouldn't be suprised Kermit won. They've got a great tradition, and Alpine is inconsistant. Crane is good, as well, and you shouldn't assume Alpine will win next week. Good luck, Bucks.

Is it about time this came out? Some Jehovah's Witnesses want more than to leave Watchtowers ? Question: Towns where Alleged Jehovah's Witness Child molesters have been reported to silentlambs
Home
Listed by each state
If you would to add a new listing contact silentlambs at info@silentlambs.org
The list below is designed to alert you to a possible danger in your community. Over the course of the last four years silentlambs has been a repository of reports on alleged Jehovah's Witness child molesters. Victims have reported extensively on times, dates and places abuse occurred. We have wrestled with how to alert the public as well as members that may be in congregations where abusers have been reported.
We offer the following suggestions if you as a Jehovah's Witness are in a town/congregation where a report has been made.
Do not allow your children to be alone with anyone in the congregation.
Escort your children to the bathroom during meetings and make sure no else is with them when using facilities.
Never allow your children to be alone in the car with anyone while in field service.
Do not allow any member to study with your child alone.
Avoid camping trips in which children go as a group with one or two adults.
Avoid baby sitters that are adult males.
At a get together watch your children and keep them in sight at all times.
Ask elders directly if they know of any abusers in your congregation, use specific names and note their reaction. They will not tell you directly but indirectly you can often figure out who it is. If one elder is less cooperative talk to another till you find out enough information to know the facts.
Check the local sex offender list in your area, type in the name of every person in your congregation to see if any are listed.
Notice any male member of the congregation that does not have privileges such as microphone or other duties around the congregation, especially if for a long period of time. They can offer talks on the TMS or sermons Service Meeting but are not allowed to conduct meetings. (This is only in case of a confessed child molester)
Note any member of the congregation that has children with sever rebellion or emotional problems.
Do not allow your children to have sleepovers with anyone.
Note members that the elders avoid having around their children.
If you are a member of the public and your community is on the list take the following steps to protect your family.
If Jehovah's Witnesses call at your home never allow them in your home
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call at your home purchase a no trespassing sign and place it near your door. JW's are instructing to only respect "no trespassing" signs any other variation will be ignored.
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call you can also call the local number and ask to be placed on the "do not call" list. They will note your home and check about once a year to make sure you wish to remain on the list.
If you choose to study with Jehovah's Witnesses do so at a neutral location such as the local Kingdom Hall or in a public place.
Never allow your child to be alone with members or their children.
If you choose to attend meetings with Jehovah's Witnesses then we suggest you follow the guidelines above for members.
Remember that most members are not aware of who the molesters are in their congregation according to church policy. They do not know.
If two Jehovah's Witnesses call at your door one could be a child molester. According to church guidelines all confessed child molesters are required to have a partner when going door to door. If two Jehovah's Witnesses appear at your door you might wish to ask if one or both are child molesters for peace of mind. Of course keep in mind if the person is an accused child molester they are allowed to work alone in the door to door work.
We hope this information is helpful and assists with the ultimate goal of silentlambs, protecting children. Check back as the list is updated on a regular basis.

My bass keeps cutting out? Question: I have this amp
http://www.mainstreet-audio.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Scree n=PROD&Store_Code=MCCS&Product_Code=HA1000M
I have this one sub
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.displ ay&product_id=1524
My stock amp for my interior speakers has to deal with a 45rmsx2 head unit and 50rmsx2 front alpine 6.5speakers
I live in texas and drive a 98 civic. My sub & amp are in my trunk. Sometimes the problem starts right when I get in my car or after a bit, but with a brand new cd in when it gets loud with base it "scratches." You know when you have a scratched cd and it skips that part because of that scratch, well it does this with a brand new cd, sometimes it does it and sometimes it hits really hard. Don't know whats up, and its all a month and 2 months old, all professionally installed. And the weirdest thing is that it helps when I don't use my air conditioning and have the back seat down, but even doing that it still does it but just less.
I have this wiring kit
http://techronics.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&p roduct_id=5370&aff=72182
better specs on my amp
http://www.millionbuyplus.com/view_product.php?itemno=PRFHA1 000M
everything stays on its just skips the part with the heavy bass, it starts to hit then skips on the cd
Answer:
if it always works fine at low volume you may need a capacitor. is the amp shutting off or is the head unit shutting off or does the bass just cut out with everything still on? if either one is shutting off after a profesional innstall you are running it too hard or there is something wrong with equipment

for those interested in global warming facts? Question: What causes global warming?
Carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the sun's heat and causing the planet to warm up. Coal-burning power plants are the largest U.S. source of carbon dioxide pollution -- they produce 2.5 billion tons every year. Automobiles, the second largest source, create nearly 1.5 billion tons of CO2 annually.
Here's the good news: technologies exist today to make cars that run cleaner and burn less gas, modernize power plants and generate electricity from nonpolluting sources, and cut our electricity use through energy efficiency. The challenge is to be sure these solutions are put to use.
Is the earth really getting hotter?
Yes. Although local temperatures fluctuate naturally, over the past 50 years the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. And experts think the trend is accelerating: the 10 hottest years on record have all occurred since 1990. Scientists say that unless we curb global warming emissions, average U.S. temperatures could be 3 to 9 degrees higher by the end of the century.
Are warmer temperatures causing bad things to happen?
Global warming is already causing damage in many parts of the United States. In 2002, Colorado, Arizona and Oregon endured their worst wildfire seasons ever. The same year, drought created severe dust storms in Montana, Colorado and Kansas, and floods caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage in Texas, Montana and North Dakota. Since the early 1950s, snow accumulation has declined 60 percent and winter seasons have shortened in some areas of the Cascade Range in Oregon and Washington.
Of course, the impacts of global warming are not limited to the United States. In 2003, extreme heat waves caused more than 20,000 deaths in Europe and more than 1,500 deaths in India. And in what scientists regard as an alarming sign of events to come, the area of the Arctic's perennial polar ice cap is declining at the rate of 9 percent per decade.
Is global warming making hurricanes worse?
Global warming doesn't create hurricanes, but it does make them stronger and more dangerous. Because the ocean is getting warmer, tropical storms can pick up more energy and become more powerful. So global warming could turn, say, a category 3 storm into a much more dangerous category 4 storm. In fact, scientists have found that the destructive potential of hurricanes has greatly increased along with ocean temperature over the past 35 years.
Is there really cause for serious concern?
Yes. Global warming is a complex phenomenon, and its full-scale impacts are hard to predict far in advance. But each year scientists learn more about how global warming is affecting the planet, and many agree that certain consequences are likely to occur if current trends continue. Among these:
Melting glaciers, early snowmelt and severe droughts will cause more dramatic water shortages in the American West.
Rising sea levels will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern seaboard, in Florida, and in other areas, such as the Gulf of Mexico.
Warmer sea surface temperatures will fuel more intense hurricanes in the southeastern Atlantic and Gulf coasts.
Forests, farms and cities will face troublesome new pests and more mosquito-borne diseases.
Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and alpine meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction.
Could global warming trigger a sudden catastrophe?
Recently, researchers -- and even the U.S. Defense Department -- have investigated the possibility of abrupt climate change, in which gradual global warming triggers a sudden shift in the earth's climate, causing parts of the world to dramatically heat up or cool down in the span of a few years.
In February 2004, consultants to the Pentagon released a report laying out the possible impacts of abrupt climate change on national security. In a worst-case scenario, the study concluded, global warming could make large areas of the world uninhabitable and cause massive food and water shortages, sparking widespread migrations and war.
While this prospect remains highly speculative, many of global warming's effects are already being observed -- and felt. And the idea that such extreme change is possible underscores the urgent need to start cutting global warming pollution.
What country is the largest source of global warming pollution?
The United States. Though Americans make up just 4 percent of the world's population, we produce 25 percent of the carbon dioxide pollution from fossil-fuel burning -- by far the largest share of any country. In fact, the United States emits more carbon dioxide than China, India and Japan, combined. Clearly America ought to take a leadership role in solving the problem. And as the world's top developer of new technologies, we are well positioned to do so -- we already have the know-how.
How can we cut global warming pollution?
It's simple: By reducing pollution from vehicles and power plants. Right away, we should put existing technologies for building cleaner cars and more modern electricity generators into widespread use. We can increase our reliance on renewable energy sources such as wind, sun and geothermal. And we can manufacture more efficient appliances and conserve energy.
Why aren't these technologies more commonplace now?
Because, while the technologies exist, the corporate and political will to put them into widespread use does not. Many companies in the automobile and energy industries put pressure on the White House and Congress to halt or delay new laws or regulations -- or even to stop enforcing existing rules -- that would drive such changes. From requiring catalytic converters to improving gas mileage, car companies have fought even the smallest measure to protect public health and the environment. If progress is to be made, the American people will have to demand it.
Do we need new laws requiring industry to cut emissions of global warming pollution?
Yes. The Bush administration is promoting an initiative in which energy companies cut emissions only if they choose to do so. As the past 10 years have clearly shown, though, voluntary programs do not stop the growth of emissions. Proposals to cap emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping pollutants from America's largest sources -- power plants, industrial facilities, and transportation fuels -- are gaining support in Congress.
Stricter efficiency requirements for electric appliances will also help reduce pollution. One example is the 30 percent tighter standard now in place for home central air conditioners and heat pumps, a Clinton-era achievement that will prevent the emission of 51 million metric tons of carbon -- the equivalent of taking 34 million cars off the road for one year. The new rule survived a Bush administration effort to weaken it when, in January 2004, a federal court sided with an NRDC-led coalition and reversed the administration's rollback.
Is it possible to cut power plant pollution and still have enough electricity?
Yes. First, we must use more efficient appliances and equipment in our homes and offices to reduce our electricity needs. We can also phase out the decades-old, coal-burning power plants that generate most of our electricity and replace them with cleaner plants. And we can increase our use of renewable energy sources such as wind and sun. Some states are moving in this direction: California has required its largest utilities to get 20 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2017, and New York has pledged to compel power companies to provide 25 percent of the state's electricity from renewable sources by 2013.
How can we cut car pollution?
Cost-effective technologies to reduce global warming pollution from cars and light trucks of all sizes are available now. There is no reason to wait and hope that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will solve the problem in the future. Hybrid gas-electric engines can cut global warming pollution by one-third or more today; hybrid sedans, SUVs and trucks from several automakers are already on the market.
But automakers should be doing a lot more: They've used a legal loophole to make SUVs far less fuel efficient than they could be; the popularity of these vehicles has generated a 20 percent increase in transportation-related carbon dioxide pollution since the early 1990s. Closing this loophole and requiring SUVs, minivans and pick-up trucks to be as efficient as cars would cut 120 million tons of carbon dioxide pollution a year by 2010. If automakers used the technology they have right now to raise fuel economy standards for new cars and light trucks to a combined 40 m.p.g., carbon dioxide pollution would eventually drop by more than 650 million tons per year as these vehicles replaced older models.
For more information on hybrid vehicles, see NRDC's hybrid guide.
What can I do to help fight global warming?
There are many simple steps you can take right now to cut global warming pollution. Make conserving energy a part of your daily routine. Each time you choose a compact fluorescent light bulb over an incandescent bulb, for example, you'll lower your energy bill and keep nearly 700 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the air over the bulb's lifetime. By opting for a refrigerator with the Energy Star label -- indicating it uses at least 15 percent less energy than the federal requirement -- over a less energy-efficient model, you can reduce carbon dioxide pollution by nearly a ton in total.
Answer:
wow. Not a question, but still, wow. and scary. Those who say that this is just a natural trend are not in possesion of all the facts, I think. Geological/Weather trends such as this usually take millennia, not less than 100 years. its too much too fast to be natural. One thing I've never understood is the laws that make companies cut emissions if they want to. What's the point? If its going to cost them money, no company is going to do it unless forced. That's been proven time and time again. Its a waste of paper to have a voluntary law like that, and you would think the politicians would know that. Basic human nature ( unfortunately)
