Where should we stay on our drive to Tennessee? Question: We are driving from northern VA to Nashville, TN and staying along the way...probably around 4-5 hours from Northern VA. Where is there a nice place to stay? (around Bristol;VA??)
Answer:
If you are trying to stay somewhere cool in or around Bristol, and not just a roadside motel, I would suggest the Martha Washington Inn... visit this link to see it. http://marthawashingtoninn.com/
Here's a little paragraph about the hotel:
Originally built in 1832 as a private residence by a Virginia General, The Martha Washington Inn has seen many different uses. From private residence it evolved into a finishing school for young ladies. When the armies of the Civil War battled in and around Abingdon, the building served as a hospital for wounded soldiers, and romantic stories of nurses and soldiers still endure to this day. After the Civil War The Martha became a women’s college and today is an elegant hotel, paying homage to its gracious Southern roots and enduring historic legacy.

A NY IT.-AM. girl forced to move to hillbilly TN, surrounded ny rednecked kids! What should I do? Question: K, I lived in NY with my dad until He had to start going out of town a lot, so I had to move to freaking hillbilly town bristol, tennessee, with my grandmother, I am a 13 year old Italian-American NY girl, I don't like to run around and play or watch cartoons nor am I girly. and every girl in my middle school is girly and all the kids are still little in the head they just don't want to grow up! I have always liked the Italian-American tough attitude, my Favorite people in the world being the man who organized organized crime Lucky Luciano, Frank castello, al Capone, John gotti, and so on. I mean it seems like all these kids like to do is watch cartoons, anime, and run around outside and play, where is I like to sit and play cards, and more quiet things, all of them running around like that just aggravates me to no end, I am surrounded by a bunch of rednecked kids who makefun of my accent and call me a Yankee, and Gino! I just can't get along or stand these kids! what should i do?
Answer:
be yourself.
it sounds like you'll need to accept them if you want to have real-world friends. if not, you'll have to accept that Internet friends are the best you can do.

I really need some good advice!? Question: K here’s the deal. I’m Italian/Sicilian/American. I lived back & forth between ‘Little Italy’, Brooklyn & Newark, NJ. Me & my Mom recently had 2 move 2 Bristol, Tennessee 2 help take care of my great Grandmother until she passed away in Sept. We were supposed 2 move back to Newark this month but my Mom say the price of housing has gone down or something & that it’s not a good time 2 buy a house. So I’m gonna B stuck in Bristol 4 awhile. My problem is that I have a lot of friends N NY & NJ & the kids here N Bristol, make fun of my Name which is Italian, my NY/NJ accent & the stuff that I like & the no. 1 thing that really bugs me is that they say I have eyebrows like Sam Waterson form Law&Order. I just don’t fit N here. Me & my friends N NY & NJ like stuff like the Sopranos, Goodfellas, the Godfather, gangsters, & playing pool & poker. We also *us being Italian* Speak Italian and Sicilian. I just don’t fit in here N Bristol. None of the kids *14 yr. olds same as me* have any of the same interests as me. So I have no friends. No one here speaks Italian, there are no other Italians here, & I just feel out of place. I went 2 the local boys&girls club and I ended up sitting by myself because everyone thought I was crazy because I was reading a book about Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel. I get teased at school. They try 2 make me mad I guess just 2 C if I’ll stereotype the “Italian rage problem” I know I shouldn’t let this stuff bother me, but it’s everyday at school. The principle and teachers just won’t do anything about it. I just need some advice on what I could do, until we are able 2 move back 2 Newark. I really appreciate any advice someone can give me! Thanks N advance!
I lived in Lercara Friddi, Palermu, Sicilia until I was six B4 moving to NY.
Answer:
(for what it's worth, Sam Watterston is quite handsome!)
are there any counselors at school you could talk to? or someone at church or another family member? School was hell for me too and all I did was read a lot! All I can do is tell you to hunker down and wait for it to be over.

What can I do about the girl always acting like me? Question: Okay. I lived in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn & stayed in Newark, New Jersey a lot with my grandparents *stayed more in NJ that NY*. Me an my Mom moved to Bristol, Tennessee to help take care of my elderly great grandmother. I started my new middle school in Bristol and the teacher asked my to introduce myself to the class, so I did. & there is this one girl there that keeps trying to talk like me, she says boy-ga instead or burger, Joy-zee instead of Jersey (which only people I ever head call it that were from NY) Boy-d instead of bird, ect.. She wrote NJ on her back pack for Christ’s sake! & always wants to hang out with me asking me how would you say this certain word with a “Joy-zee” accent? Or what do people from “Joy-zee” call this? Or telling me I have a Tony Soprano accent. I’ve asked her to quit but no luck. I’m Italian-American so I don’t want to be mean that would just put emphasis on the whole stereotyped rude and arrogant Italian-American from NY or NJ. What can I do. I also don’t want to drag the Principle or other teachers in on this. I’m not the kind to. Just in need of some advice.
Oh. And if any was going to suggest, I start acting like her to see how she likes it. Well I don’t want to act southern, cuz it’s not me. And I don’t want to B doing the same as here. It just seem so immature to me. I’m moving back to Newark in July. But I just can’t take this anymore it really aggravates me.
Thanks in advance!
Answer:
Just be sweet to her and everyone else. Do not take offense, pretend that you don't even notice it. Change the subject. If she is playing a game, don't participate. If she has low self esteem, perhaps she just needs a little attention. Give her at least one sincere compliment per week. Hold you're head high. Continue being yourself (your best self). Maybe by summer you two will be best chums and decide to be pen pals when you go back to Newark.

Why did my name have to be this? I need help!!!!? Question: K, heres the problem. My last Name is Moltisanti. Thats right you heard me. I know the story, The Sopranos *yes luv the show and Chris is my fave* Well I recently was forced 2 move from Newark, NJ *again thats right* 2 Bristol, Tennessee and every1 n my 8th grd. class makes fun of my last name. I am *well of course being from NJ, and last name* Italian, Sicilian and theres not so many Italians or Sicilian in Bristol, like NY & NJ ya' know a lot of people with Italian names up there. So any advice on what I can do? and thats not even the half of it! get this, when I was 2 my parents moved from Venice, Italy *my parents were born there also* to Newark, NJ so being born in Italy u can imagine my first 2 names r really Italiano. well it's Cristofora Riccarda Moltisanti. U see Cristofora, like Cristoforo in feminine form so Cristoforo in english from Italian is Christopher. So u can imagine the hell I get in the south now. Any ideas on what I could do? Any help is much appreciated!

What is the rudest city you've visited? The most polite? Question: So i live in the Bristol area of Tennessee, and its one of those places were you always hold the door for people, always shoot them a smile regardless of whether you know them, always speak to them, etc.
But I visited California a few weeks back for a basketball tournament, and i noticed that everyone i held a door for kinda gave me a harsh look, everytime i smiled at someone they looked at me like i was crazy, and if I said hi to a stranger, they looked at me like I was stalking them or something
anyone had any similar experiences?
Answer:
OMG, yes! Cleveland Ohio is not much different from how California sounds. I was born and raised here. I have family in West Virginia. People there are sooo much kinder and connected to their fellow human beings. I have alot of good friends here I found but the general attitude of the City is so rude and aloof, Especially in the wealthier Suburbs like Mayfield Heights, Westlake, and so-on. I am a Paramedic and my job takes me to alot of different areas. I try to smile at people and they look at me as if they think I am an Alien for doing so. How sad is that? I have been thinking more and more about moving elsewhere where people act more like human beings and treat eachother as such.
