whats the name of a park in south dakota with buffalo? Question: I went there 4 years ago, but i forgot what the place was called. it was like a reserve with alot of, buffalo, and i remember the herds actually walked right next to the cars, since there were roads going through the park.
Answer:
As the other readers have said, buffalo can be found in Custer State Park. It is a very large area!! You should go to the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park to find them. They will give you a map as you enter the park http://sdgfp-px.rtrk.com/Parks/CampMaps/CustArea_noscale.pdf, and if you go to the wildlife station visitor center found on the bottom righthand side of the map, they can tell you exactly where the herds are that day. Also State Game Lodge offers Buffalo Safari Jeep Tour/Chuckwagons.http://custerresorts.rtrk.com/coupon/?scid=36115 8&cid=85610&tc=07071918304267982&dynamic_proxy=1&primary_serv=cus terresorts-px.rtrk.com&se_refer=http%253A%252F%252Fsearch.yahoo.c om%252Fsearch%253B_ylt%253DA0geu_EzEKBGT1kACXNXNyoA%253Fp%253Dcus ter%252Bstate%252Bgame%252Blodge%252B%2526y%253DSearch%2526fr%253 Db1ie7

What's should I pack for South Dakota, going end of August? Question: Are the mosquitos very bad? Someone said bring chapstick? If you have any other ideas, please let me know. Going to the presidential monument, deadwood, buffalo trail, and (2) other places. Thanking you in advance for any information you can provide.
Answer:
The mosquitos aren't bad at all. To tell you the truth, I've probably seen 4 all summer. The west side of the state is a little dry so you might need chapstick if it is muggier where you live? Weird though....
Bring 'hot weather' clothes like shorts and sleeveless shirts....and deodorant, lol. Sunscreen? Sunglasses? Camera? If you are going to Deadwood, bring your poker face lol. Gambling in Deadwood is amazing. Prepare to drive carefully as this is during the end of bike week in Sturgis and there will probably still be a few straggling bikers. Go to the Cosmos in Hill City, it's kinda fun and kids love it.
Need any other ideas? Let me know.

How many of you people think South Dakotan's are poor? Question: No what ... I am sick and tired of people thinking that South DAkota is a poor place. FYI we DO have running water, internet access, and Cable. We dont have wild natives running around and yes we do have buffalo... inwhich most are not wild. And Maybe the teacher's salary is not high but that does not make us poor and we have large cities here to with SOME space inbetween.
Please tell me if you believed any of these statements ... i am doing a servy
Answer:
I don't think about South Dakotans full stop. Neither do most of the world. There are possibly 6.7 Billion+ people who have never once considered the comparative wealth of the people of South Dakota. In fact most of those people would struggle to point it out on a map. You may just need to get over it and think about other things.

Were American Bison ever really extinct? Question: When I was a kid (maaaany years ago) they told me buffalo were extinct. By the time I reached my twenties, they had magically reappeared. I visited South Dakota and visited a herd up close. They're obviously not extinct.
Did they have a small group of survivors they were secretly breeding? Why did they tell us they were extinct?
Answer:
They were never extinct (obviously) but I don't think many existed in the wild. I believe they were reintroduced, like they do with wolves.
By the way, in case you didn't know. They were purposely hunted to the brink of extintion by the US government in an attempt to starve to death the Plains Indians who used them as their main source of food, clothing etc.

Are you guys seriously a bunch of morons? Question: Seriously- you South Dakota bashers are morons. Quit wasting space on boards with your idiotic questions. Just because South Dakota does not have a huge population does not mean squat. We work harder then any other state on making ends meet. When you leave a South Dakota school or job- you have created a great work ethic within yourself. I hate traveling out of SD and hearing all you morons ask stupid questions about riding horses and buffalo and living in teepees without any electricity. Its not even funny and many of us have to walk away before we smack your face. So use your brain, of course you would know that information if you had one!
Answer:
Good observation Jessica. Tmarie99: you do know that North Dakota and South Dakota are different states, right? And you know that work ethic has nothing to do with availability of technology hopefully. Technology is just as prevelant in SD as in any other state. Look at the industries located in the state. SD is a national banking center and is home to the headquarters of heavyweights such as Citigroup. Biotechnology and biosciences are also being fueled out of the state as well.

Good midwestern singletrack biking vacation destination? Question: Hello,
A group of us are looking to take a mountain biking vacation next summer and we're just looking for some suggestions. We would like to do a week-long trip, with about 4 days of biking and the rest of the time available for driving. Now, economical times being what they are, we have some restrictions on where we can travel. As much as we would love to go to British Columbia or Moab, we will need to stick closer to our homes, which are in Wisconsin and Minnesota. So, does anyone have any good ideas of places to go biking (again, singletrack mtn. biking, please) in the central North America area? If you have a map of the continent in front of you, please imagine or actually do this: Put your pencil on Buffalo, NY, and draw a circle counter clockwise from Buffalo through Ontario, Manitoba, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, a bit of Oklahoma, northern Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, some of Pennsylvania, and back to Buffalo. It does not need to be a perfect circle. An oval would be acceptable as well. Do you know of any great places to spend 4 days mountain biking anywhere inside that circle/oval? We're looking for some challenging trails that are good for full-suspension bikes. Suggestions for lodging (vacation properties, interesting hostels, or camping preferred, no hotels please) and fun area nightlife or decent brewery tours in the area of the bike trails would also be welcome. Thanks everyone!
Answer:
Busiek State Forest and Sac River trail, Springfield, MO.
Camping available in Springfield, Branson and Busiek State Forest. Vacation properties in Branson.
I believe there are trails around Eureka Springs, AR which is about 2 hrs SW of Springfield via US 65, MO 86 and AR 23. Kettle campground is a nice place to stay.

Why is the Bush family pastor railing against McCain? Question: Jenna Bush Wedding Pastor Rips McCain
The pastor who officiated Jenna Bush's wedding ripped into Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Friday for jokingly volunteering his wife last week for a beauty pageant that often features contestants topless.
"Well, I don't know a lot about John McCain's family history, I do know, however, that as recently as last week I think it was, the Senator made a comment in South Dakota regarding his wife entering some Buffalo Chips contest which is this topless deal and if she were to enter she would probably win it and my personal opinion and based on my understanding of the Christian faith, that's not not, N-O-T, not the type of expression that a presidential candidate, or anyone for that matter who is a follower of the Christian faith, ought to make," said the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/08/jenna-bush-wedd .html
McCain's campaign, when asked if McCain was aware of what the Buffalo Chip contest was, admits that McCain was fully aware of it but he was just "joking."
Answer:
Even though McCain was joking, that doesn't excuse him from making sexist remarks about women including his own wife. He allegedly called her a "c---" and also told a joke about a woman being savagely beaten and raped by a gorilla on the street and LIKING IT!.
Even though it was in the past, this is the man who's running for president. If all these things had been attributed to Obama, people would have a heart attack and assumed the world was coming to an end.

Cell phone coverage in Wyoming and Montana, I-90? Question: Hello. I'm going to be driving from Indiana to Portland, OR at the end of the month, and I had a question about cell phone reception in Wyoming and Montana, particularly Wyoming. If anybody has driven I-90 through northern Wyoming (Gilette, Buffalo, Sheridan) into Billings, MT please let me know whether:
•you had problems getting any reception, or if you were able to make calls;
•how long ago you drove the route; and
•which cell-phone service provider you were using.
After Billings, I'm not as worried, as most major providers tend to have some sort of coverage along I-90. I'm mostly worried about the trip from the South Dakota border to Billings, MT.
Thanks!
Please, if you've never driven through Wyoming along I-90, or you don't live along I-90 in either state, don't answer. I'll report jokers and spam.
You were able to roam, however, ignatious?
And were/are you on the National SingleRate plan?
Answer:
I drove that stretch of road three years ago on my way to Washington/Oregon. Reception is spotty and roaming is frequent through large swaths of Wyoming and i'm/was with Verizon.
