    City Description

    Conway is a city in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 11,788 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Horry County. It is the home of Coastal Carolina University. Numerous buildings and structures are on the National Register of Historic Places- including City Hall which was designed by Robert Mills who was also the architect of the Washington Monument. Since the completion of the Main Street USA project in the 1980s, Conway's downtown has been revitalized with quaint shops and bistros. Highlighting the renovation of the downtown area is the Riverwalk, an area of fine dining which follows a stretch of the Waccamaw River that winds through Conway. Conway is one of the oldest towns in South Carolina. Originally named Kingston, the town was created in 1734 as part of Royal Governor Robert Johnson's Township Scheme, but before, that Mckevlin founded it first, starting the basis for the city. It was laid out on a riverbluff in the center of what became Horry County.     I know people who live down there near the Coastal Carolina University campus and I always go to stay with them when I go to Myrtle Beach. Conway is about 10 minutes from the actual coast, and all of the Myrtle Beach attractions. As for Conway itself, I'd say its pretty nice. I love staying down there. Hope I could help! Edit: Now that I think about it, I would also agree with 'Casey J' on the dirty part. I've only been through downtown Conway once, and its just like any other old. dirty town. The people who I go visit live right on the border of Conway and Myrtle Beach on a golf course, so thats what I usually see most of the time. But driving through Conway on 501, it looks fine and pretty decent to me. I guess it just depends where you are.

    For a bus fare of $1.25 one way, you can go to Conway, about 20 miles away, which is the county seat. The bus company office is located here and Senior Discount Cards, which permits half-price fares, are issued for free; they do not expire. Conway is a older small town. This bus ride includes stops at the big outlet malls on Highway 501, the medical center, and college buildings. Another bus route goes to North Myrtle Beach to Barefoot Landing, which is a shopping, entertainment, and dining complex. Several buses stop at Broadway at the Beach, another shopping, entertainment, and dining complex.

    The crime isn't that bad there, but South Carolina is an economically depressed state. Lot's of abandoned buildings, bad trailer parks, bad education system, etc.

    I live in South Carolina, but I do not know the price of an abortion. I am also not near the areas you listed, I know of one clinic in Charleston and I only know of it because of the protests I have seen outside as I drove by. You asked for views on both sides, though, and I would have to tell you that I would urge you to place the baby for adoption. There is a LIFE growing inside of you. A heart is beating. It can not yet survive without you, but it is still your child and in my opinion abortion is MURDER and killing a child just because s/he is not convenient. There are many families that would welcome a child into their family. There are also different types of adoption-you can help choose the parents/family in an open adoption if you want, in some open adoptions you can receive updates on the child-the situation can be completely customized to how you need it. Find a Crisis Pregnancy Center in your area. They will give yo a free ultrasound to see the life inside of you and will guide you. They are anti-abortion, though, so they will try to persuede you to give the child up or raise him/her. A lot of the volunteers there have had abortions in the past and regret them and volunteer to help others avoid what they have gone through. I hope this helps, and I sincerely wish you the best.

W e love the water. sun, beach, diversity, and lots of weekend activity's. We were thinking of moving around the Conway area.     I live near Conway, about 20 miles from it in a community called Little River. It is nice, though I'd choose the Carolina Forest area first, due to the school system in Conway. Carolina Forest is about halfway between Conway and Myrtle Beach, and they have wonderful schools. Housing prices are reasonable too, and you'd only be about 5-7 miles from the beach. You could get a nice 3 bedroom house in Carolina Forest for the low 200's to the high 400's. One thing to remember... Horry County is pronounced "Orry" County. The "H" is silent! lol... They get mad at ya' if you get that wrong. Carolina Forest is not a city, it's just the name of an area of the county that lies between the cities of Conway and Myrtle Beach. Taxes are crazy-low... The area built up with thousands of new homes, just in the last 10 years or so... All the schools are new, and state of the art. My father-in-law is the director of educational testing for the school district, so I know what I'm talking about. If you have any other questions, just email me. The shopping and culture are "pretty decent" in this area due to it catering to a large tourist industry, but there are also quite a few retirees. All in all, it's still one of the best values in the country for living near the beach. The beaches are fabulous, as is the golfing, boating and fishing.

    Do you have any coffee shops around you that sell baked goods like peices of cake and such? I went to a coffee shop called Maxie B's and I found out they specialized in making wedding cakes. That is where I am getting my cake from. Try to look around for coffee shops and bakerys. You can always ask around too.

    I'm from Columbia and at this point in time I would say that living in Conway with your two kids is a great thing to do. I notice a lot of people moving out of the city to places like blythewood and lugoff where the property value is great and it's somewhat more peaceful and quiet in small towns like that. I'm a city guy though, I gotta have a traffic light flashing outside my window at three in the morning to help me fall asleep lol!!!
