How will I find a treatment center for dual diagnosis in Barnwell, South Carolina?
    Question:
My brother has dual diagnosis. I heard my mom talk to my dad about this. They haven't told me anything yet, so I'm not even supposed to know, but I just can't help but wonder what I can do to help. I figured a little research about treatment centers would be appreciated by my parents.

    Answer:
The doctor who diagnosed your brother and said he has dual diagnosis, you can ask him to recommend treatment centers that would be right for your brother. You can also ask around at addiction treatment centers if they have programs that are fit for people with dual diagnosis. The links I put below are lists of treatment centers. You can call them up to ask. I'll keep your family in my prayers. Good luck!

where can i find Dalmation puppies in or near South Carolina?
    Question:
Hi, Im interested in getting my fiancee a dalmation 4 christmas since he has wanted 1 for guite some time but i don't know where i can find one near me. I live in Barnwell SC. Will Travel to Georgia, Aiken, Orangeburg, Swansea, Springfield, Gaston, Augusta, Hampton, OR ANY OTHER AREA WITHIN A HOUR DRIVE FROM BARNWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Answer:
You could try Petfinder.com but they tend to link to shelters, not breeders. You could also Google 'Dalmatian breeder South Carolina.' Or, you could wander over to a local pet store and buy a badly bred, poorly socialized, and likely sick puppy mill puppy. Your choice. Note: The link below is from a place about 75 miles north of Atlanta - might be farther than you want to go. I don't know the place or their dogs, but it came up on a web search. http://www.starwooddals.com/ You could also try this Dalmatian rescue group in NC: http://www.dalrescue.com/

Making connection between people without definitive proof?
    Question:
I'm searching for my ancestors. In doing so, I have kind of run into a snag. My ancestor, Laura Sandifer, who married James Moody in 1879, did not show up in the 1870 census at all. Since she was married in 1879, she obviously shows up in the 1880 in the household of James Moody. And because she was born in 1863, the 1860 census isn't too useful either. There are about 9 or 10 Sandifer household appearing in the 1880 census in Barnwell County, South Carolina; presumably one of these contains Laura's parents. I can narrow it down to basically one household; however, without any proof connecting Laura to this family, I'm hesitant to make attach them to my family tree. The household of which I speak is that of Henry Sandifer. He does not appear on the 1870 census either. Also, based on the space between his sons, Henry (21) and Elijah (13), an 18 year old woman could have fit in there. I know that Henry, Francis Jenkins, and Wesley G. Sandifer are brother as such, I recognize a couple of unusual names that Laura names her kids that are the same as in F.J. and W.G. Sandifer's household. It might be a coincidence, I'm not sure yet. Do you have any advice on this situation? Thanks. Oh and sorry for this being so long. It's really looking like Victoria and Laura are the same person. Laura was born in May of 1862 according to the 1900 census.

    Answer:
One of the problems is that a child is named one thing but called another later in life. Below are the females in Barnwell that are possibles for Laura. It is good that you are looking at naming patterns as this is a big clue. So part of what you have been doing and should continue is not only to prove but disprove. Look for each of these women and see if you can mark them off the list somehow. What is the the maiden name of Richard Moody's wife?
    Question:
Richard was born around 1800 in South Carolina. His wife's first name may have been Catrina (born about 1812-14 in South Carolina? They had a son named John H. Moody (born about 1834-35) and a daughter, named Charity (as per the 1850 census.) Could a person with access to Ancestry.com look up information about Richard's wife? (ie maiden name, marriage records, death records, anything of that nature). Richard and his wife appear to have died before the 1880 census, as I have found no information about them there. They most likely lived around Barnwell or Orangeburg Counties in South Carolina. Thank you for any help you can provide. :) That is a very unusual name....The Moodys seemed quite fond of such names.

    Attention! Sports team info!?
    Question:
I want to know more on how I can join a youth or high school sports team. I go to a private school that does not offer sports, and my church does not either that I know of. I go to school in South Carolina in Barnwell County. Someone told me that if you go to a private school that you could not participate in High School Sports in the public system. I just recently became interested in sports and I want to join a team. I like baseball, football, tennis, and soccer. My friend does play baseball. He goes to my school, but he plays with his church team. Also, I am 5 foot 6 inches, weigh 98 pounds, and in the ninth grade. I think I need to gain more weight and get stronger muscles. I need help with what else that I need to do.

    Answer:
Ok, go to your local park and see if they have any sports leagues or an "optimist" system. Usually, these park systems will have baseball and soccer, and Optimist applies to football. You mentioned your height and weight. To gain more weight, just eat 5-6 meals a day, but less food in each meal than normal. Eat a lot of meat for protein, and start lifting weights. If you don't like lifting weights, run a lot to build leg strength and stamina, or do a huge amount of push-ups and pull-ups.

Who were the parents of Laura Bassett Sandifer?
    Question:
Could someone with access to the 1870 census(i.e. Ancestry.com.) look this up for me? She was born about 1862-63 in South Carolina so she should be about 7 or 8 years old at this time. Laura was most likely born in Barnwell County (At this time Barnwell county included Barnwell, Allendale, and Bamberg counties.) I have a copy of the 1880 census as follows: James MOODY Self M Male W 19 SC Laborer SC SC Laura MOODY Wife M Female W 18 SC Keeps House SC SC Alice MOODY Dau S Female W 3M SC SC SC As you can see she married James Moody by 1880. Thanks for any information. crazy4wordracer: The information you've posted is not for the person I'm asking about. Is there no Laura Sandifer there?

    Answer:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?barnwell::sand ifer::454.html I'd say that this discussion at genforum is one that you need to look at in depth. Ladies can be tough to pin down as to maiden name, especially in SC where I believe that they didn't require marriage records. The other issue is that census records are very tricky..people flip flop a lot between using actual name or middle names/ nick names. Frequently, what you wind up having to do is dissect every Sandifer family in a locality, and find if there are any probate files. Husbands were legal heirs on behalf of wives.. thus a file that includes James Moody inheiriting from a Sandifer will proof your person. edit... you NEED TO SEE this page, for when you make your connection... http://www.oldplaces.org/bamberg/deeds/Sandifer_intro.html I AM JUST HOPING YOU COME BACK AND SEE THIS

    R.I.P...James Brown..?
    Question:
ATLANTA - James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose revolutionary rhythms, rough voice and flashing footwork influenced generations of musicians from rock to rap, died early Christmas morning. He was 73. ADVERTISEMENT Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died of conjunctive heart failure around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. He initially seemed fine at the hospital and even told people that he planned to be on stage in New York on New Year's Eve, Copsidas said. Brown was one of the major musical influences of the past 50 years. From Mick Jagger to Michael Jackson, David Bowie to Public Enemy, Brown's rapid-footed dancing, hard-charging beats and heartfelt yet often unintelligible vocals changed the musical landscape. He was to rhythm and dance music what Bob Dylan was to lyrics. "He was an innovator, he was an emancipator, he was an originator. Rap music, all that stuff came from James Brown," entertainer Little Richard, a longtime friend of Brown's, told MSNBC. "James Brown changed music," said Rev. Al Sharpton, who toured with him in the 1970s and imitates his hairstyle to this day. "He made soul music a world music," Sharpton said. "What James Brown was to music in terms of soul and hip-hop, rap, all of that, is what Bach was to classical music. This is a guy who literally changed the music industry. He put everybody on a different beat, a different style of music. He pioneered it." Brown's classic singles include "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag," "(Get Up I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine," "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "Say It Loud — I'm Black and I'm Proud," a landmark 1968 statement of racial pride. "I clearly remember we were calling ourselves colored, and after the song, we were calling ourselves black," Brown told The Associated Press in 2003. "The song showed even people to that day that lyrics and music and a song can change society." He won a Grammy for lifetime achievement in 1992, as well as Grammys in 1965 for "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" (best R&B recording) and for "Living In America" in 1987 (best R&B vocal performance, male.) He was one of the initial artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, along with Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and other founding fathers. Brown, who lived in Beech Island, S.C., near the Georgia line, triumphed despite a turbulent personal life and charges of abusing drugs and alcohol. After a widely publicized, drug-fueled confrontation with police in 1988 that ended in an interstate car chase, Brown spent more than two years in prison for aggravated assault and failing to stop for a police officer. From the 1950s, when Brown had his first R&B hit, "Please, Please, Please" in 1956, through the mid-1970s, Brown went on a frenzy of cross-country tours, concerts and new songs. He earned the nickname "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business" and often tried to prove it to his fans, said Jay Ross, his lawyer of 15 years. Brown's stage act was as memorable, and as imitated, as his records, with his twirls and spins and flowing cape, his repeated faints to the floor at the end as band members tried in vain to get him to leave the stage. His "Live at The Apollo" in 1962 is widely considered one of the greatest concert records ever. And he often talked of the 1964 concert in which organizers made the mistake of having the Rolling Stones, not him, close the bill. He would remember a terrified Mick Jagger waiting offstage, chain smoking, as Brown pulled off his matchless show. "To this day, there has been no one near as funky. No one's coming even close," rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy once told the AP. Brown routinely lost two or three pounds each time he performed and kept his furious concert schedule in his later years even as he fought prostate cancer, Ross said. With his tight pants, shimmering feet, eye makeup and outrageous hair, Brown set the stage for younger stars such as Michael Jackson and Prince. And the early rap generation overwhelmingly sampled his music and voice as they laid the foundation of hip-hop culture. "Disco is James Brown, hip-hop is James Brown, rap is James Brown; you know what I'm saying? You hear all the rappers, 90 percent of their music is me," Brown told The AP in 2003. Born in poverty in Barnwell, S.C., in 1933, Brown was abandoned as a 4 year old to the care of relatives and friends. He grew up on the streets of Augusta, Ga., in an "ill-repute area," as he once called it, where he learned how to hustle to survive. "I wanted to be somebody," Brown said. By the eighth grade in 1949, Brown had served 3 1/2 years in Alto Reform School near Toccoa, Ga., for breaking into cars. While there, he met Bobby Byrd, whose family took Brown into their home. Byrd also took Brown into his group, the Gospel Starlighters. Soon they changed their name to the Famous Flames and their style to hard R&B. In January 1956, King Records of Cincinnati signed the group, and four months later "Please, Please, Please" was in the R&B Top Ten. Pete Allman, a radio personality in Las Vegas who had been friends with Brown for 15 years, credited Brown with jump-starting his career and motivating him personally and professionally. "He was a very positive person. There was no question he was the hardest working man in show business," Allman said. "I remember Mr. Brown as someone who always motivated me, got me reading the Bible." While most of Brown's life was glitz and glitter — he was the manic preacher in 1980's "The Blues Brothers" — he was plagued with charges of abusing drugs and alcohol and of hitting his third wife, Adrienne. In September 1988, Brown, high on PCP and carrying a shotgun, entered an insurance seminar next to his Augusta office. Police said he asked seminar participants if they were using his private restroom. Police chased Brown for a half-hour from Augusta into South Carolina and back to Georgia. The chase ended when police shot out the tires of his truck. Brown received a six-year prison sentence. He spent 15 months in a South Carolina prison and 10 months in a work release program before being paroled in February 1991. In 2003, the South Carolina parole board granted him a pardon for his crimes in that state. Soon after his release, Brown was on stage again with an audience that included millions of cable television viewers nationwide who watched the three-hour, pay-per-view concert at Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. Adrienne Brown died in 1996 in Los Angeles at age 47. She took PCP and several prescription drugs while she had a bad heart and was weak from cosmetic surgery two days earlier, the coroner said. More recently, he married his fourth wife, Tomi Raye Hynie, one of his backup singers. The couple had a son, James Jr. Two years later, Brown spent a week in a private Columbia hospital, recovering from what his agent said was dependency on painkillers. Brown's attorney, Albert "Buddy" Dallas, said the singer was exhausted from six years of road shows. Brown was performing to the end, and giving back to his community. Three days before his death, he joined volunteers at his annual toy giveaway in Augusta, and he planned to perform on New Year's Eve at B.B. King Blues Club in New York. "He was dramatic to the end — dying on Christmas Day," said the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a friend of Brown's since 1955. "Almost a dramatic, poetic moment. He'll be all over the news all over the world today. He would have it no other way."

    Answer:
I heard that James Brown had died earlier today. What a damper on Christmas. I loved his music and his showmanship. This guy could electrify any stage he took to. One of my all time favorite songs is "The BigPayback." The music world has truely lost one of the greats of all time.
