With a population of 79,269 at the 2000 census, it is the third largest city in the state. The center of population of Rhode Island is located in Cranston . Cranston is a part of the Providence metropolitan area.
Cranston is located at 41°46′24″N, 71°27′12″W (41.773200, -71.453289).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.9 square miles (77.5 km²), of which, 28.6 square miles (74.0 km²) of it is land and 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²) of it (4.54%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 79,269 people, 30,954 households, and 20,243 families residing in the city of Cranston. The population density was 2,774.6 people per square mile (1,071.3/km²). Roger Williams was exiled to Rhode Island after demonstrating his then-radical beliefs on religious freedom to the settlers in Massachusetts. Williams openly invited all races and religions to live in peace in Rhode Island and aimed for peace among the white man and the Narragansett Indians.

In 1636, Roger Williams, after being banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his religious views, settled at the tip of Narragansett Bay. He called the site Providence and declared it a place of religious freedom.
The following year, Anne Hutchinson was banished from Massachusetts for criticizing the clergy there. She and some others, including William Coddington and John Clarke, founded the town of Portsmouth on Aquidneck Island. In 1639, Coddington left Portsmouth and founded Newport on Aquidneck Island.
In that same year a formal government was established for the island. William Coddington was the first governor and Philip Sherman was the first Secretary. In 1643, Samuel Gorton founded Shawomet, which is now called Warwick. In 1644, the name of Aquidneck Island was changed to Rhode Island.
John Clarke was granted a Charter in 1663 for Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, which effectively united the two colonies into one. Under the terms of the charter, only landowners could vote. Before the Industrial Revolution, when most people were employed as farmers, this was considered democratic. The original charter was used as the state constitution until 1842.

Both of these sites have lots of great info about belly dance.
You can e-mail or call some of the dance instructors to find out more about their background, their style of instruction, what they expect from students, and fees they charge for classes. If you don't find a teacher listed for your area, you might want to contact one from the websites and find out if they may know of an instructor who may live closer to you.
I hope you find a teacher that you like. If one teacher's style doesn't suit your learning style, try another. I've known some dancers to take awhile finding a setting that worked for them.

Moving to Rhode Island?!?

the problem is, i was born in georgia, and have lived in Orlando, Florida since i was 5.
Im a Florida girl, i dont know up north.
He lived in Cranston until he was about 10, then moved to orlando.
Im willing to give up Orlando for him, because hes given up alot for me, and plus i like change.
but what are winters like? Orlando winters are around 70 F.

I didn't grow up here, but I do think that Rhode Island is a pretty great place to live. Providence is a wonderful little city - with fabulous restaurants! New York and Boston are really close when you want big cities. I know... I know... you lived in Florida, but Rhode Island is the Ocean State. Mountains are only a few hours away. ...and you'll have Stuffies, Del's Lemonade and Coffee Milk to look forward to!
