Ashaway is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Hopkinton in Washington County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 1,537 at the 2000 census. Ashaway is located at 41°25′23″N 71°47′20″W / 41.42306°N 71.78889°W / 41.42306; -71.78889 (41.423004, -71.788839). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.24%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,537 people, 589 households, and 441 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 249.3/km² (645.6/mi²). There were 604 housing units at an average density of 98.0/km² (253.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.29% White, 0.59% African American, 1.43% Native American, 1.04% Asian, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population. There were 589 households out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% were non-families. 18.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5%
