Coos Bay, Oregon. How is it? Question: I am originally from Oregon, but have lived in Wisconsin for the past 13 years. My girlfriend is applying for a job in Coos Bay and has an interview for it in 2 weeks. If she gets it and it pays enough (it's a state job) then we are debating the idea of moving. How is Coos Bay, I've never been there. I'm guessing there aren't many jobs there, and I'm guessing houses are expensive as well?
Answer:
Housing in Coos Bay isn't as expensive as you would expect, but it is relative to other parts of the state and the west coast. The place you want to look is at http://www.rmls.com, which is a statewide real estate multiple listing service. You will likely see a lot of places with reduced price listings, as most agents tell me it's a buyer's market at the moment.
Job wise, there are jobs here for experienced people, but not a lot of of them. The more experience you have, the more likely you are to find a good job. If your skills are average, it will probably take longer. But if your girlfriend has a state position then you can probably make things happen between the two of you. The cost of living isn't out of sight here and of course, the climate and scenic beauty and overall friendliness of the folks that live here make this a great place to live (but I'm not too biased!).
To find what is available, either look at the Oregon Employment's website (http://www.employment.oregon.gov/EMPLOY/ES/JOB/index.shtml) or at the want ads in the local newspaper (http://theworldlink.com or http://www.thejobnetwork.com/home.asp?Action=employee.CorporateHo me.init&ClientId=&AffiliateID=73)
Welcome to my favorite part of the coast and good luck in that interview....

Any Filipino Restaurant in Coos Bay, Oregon? And where to find a house rental in Coos Bay? Question: I am loiking for a house rental in Coos Bay. And also curious if there is any Filipino Community in there.
Answer:
The best place to find a house to rent is in the Shopper newspaper which comes out on Thursday. There are also listings in the World newspaper and in the community newspaper called Koosnews. The free papers can be found in the grocery stores and many restaurants around town. Usually by the door.
As to the Filipino community, I don't know of any personally, but I'll bet the Oregon Coast Filipino American Association would know. Theyr website is http://www.ocfaa.org/. They state their mission is "To Provide Hospitality to New Filipino Residents
in the Community."
The address is 93545 Shady Lane, North Bend, OR 97459
Welcome to the community and thanks for asking such a good question. I learned of a great group I wasn't aware of.

How do I find foreclosures in Oregon (maybe Coos Bay) -- without giving out my credit card to a service? Question: My wife and I are moving back home from Tennessee to the Coos Bay, Oregon area and we would like to look at what foreclosures are available. I know there are several services that take your credit card and give you a list -- but I am wondering if there's an easier/free way to do it?
I doubt a realtor is going to tell you because they work off a percentage and there really isn't a "seller".
Do I go to the court house? A bank? Is there a government entity that handles this?
Thanks for your time!
Robert

Coos Bay Oregon Pizza Place? Question: February 2006 my family and I were in Coos Bay, OR and stopped at an amazing pizza place. It seemed super old inside with crazy red(?) wallpaper, and had big wooden tables, a juke box and a few arcade games. Delicious pizza and a very unique atmosphere. It was on one of the main drags in town, near a Figaro's and other commercial eateries.
Anyone know the name of this place?
Answer:
Sounds like Ginos Pizza in North Bend (Coos Bay/North Bend, really 1 town). If so it's been a hangout for years. I went to school in North Bend back in the 70's and it was popular then.

when is the best time for crabbing in oregon, coos bay?
Answer:
Typically the best crabbing is about one hour before high tide, through the slack, and one hour into the outgoing. If you enjoy it like I do, give another hour on each side of the tide. Not sure when the tide will be? Most sporting good stores have tide charts, or you can find it online by typing oregon tide charts into google.
For bait, get some chicken and leave it out for a day or two - the stinkier the better. Don't forget in Oregon now you need a shellfish license to crab as well as a fishing license.
good luck

Which is a better place to stay while traveling down the coast of Oregon? Coos Bay or Brandon?
Answer:
Bandon!!
A delightful tiny town, with all kinds of little shops, a harbour, and friendly people. Not as many places to stay though, so you may want to arrange in advance ... even consider a bed and breakfast.
Coos Bay is much larger than Bandon, but has lots of interesting things to do and see also, and lodging is more plentiful and possibly less expensive. Food establishments are also more plentiful. There is a walkway along the bay, a lovely small city park called Mingus Park with a walkway around the pond and a small japanese garden. About 7 miles west there are the ocean beaches. One of them, Shoreacres, has a wonderful botanical garden. There is a $3 parking fee, well worth it.
Coos Bay also has a "mall" of sorts (called Pony Village), walmart, and other shopping, while Bandons is primarily the little touristy shops (wonderful though).
Coos Bay has movie thearers, and a live theatre called Little Theatre on the Bay ... you can look up on the web if any plays are being held while you go through. Coos Bay also has a music festival, and other celebrations, and Bandon has one too, but you will have to look up when they are.
For amenities, stay in Coos Bay, for pure atmosphere, do Bandon. Also, there is a "Deer Park" just south of Bandon .. it's a small animal refuge.
