    City Description

    Willshire is a village in Van Wert County, Ohio, United States with a population of 463 as of the 2000 U.S. census. It is included within the Van Wert, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area. Willshire was founded by Captain James Riley and is named for the man who saved him while he was a captive in Africa, William Willshire. Willshire served as the first county seat for Van Wert County. A replica of the first courthouse sits in the village park. Willshire is located at 40°44′52″N 84°47′32″W / 40.74778°N 84.79222°W / 40.74778; -84.79222 (40.747671, -84.792275). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 463 people, 192 households, and 124 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,221.1 people per square mile (470.4/km²). There were 207 housing units at an average density of 545.9/sq mi (210.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.92% White, 0.22% Asian, 0.22% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.65% of the population.
