We were delighted to see one of our favorite local chains, Aladdin's, open in the Hudson area at the First and Main district. This location continues the tradition of yummy, healthy Lebanese food in a modern, relaxing atmosphere. Like most Aladdins, this restaurant falls between a quick diner and a nicer restaurant in both price and quality. The Hudson location features a decent-sized dining room with an adjacent outdoor courtyard, which is perfect for enjoying nice weather and good food. For a quick lunch, the wraps are a great option with fresh ingredient choices, and the larger entrees are a nice feature for dinner. The selection is large, from traditional Lebanese and middle eastern food to more standard American choices - all well-prepared. We have been trying for a long time to replicate the "secret" spices in their delicious kafta. The deserts are decadent. The wine list is not huge, but includes some interesting selections of Lebanese wine as well as traditional California labels. Our two biggest complaints are the service and the cleanliness of the dishes. Most of the servers that we have encountered here have been friendly but unreliable, often disappearing for long lengths of time right when we need their service. We have also witnessed several times of apparent frustration between the management and the staff, paired with a general air of confusion and unmet expectations. Although this type of difficulty occurs in many restaurants, management should take caution that it isn't displayed to customers, which brings a very unprofessional atmosphere to the restaurant. There also seems to be a lack of knowledge about the products and offerings, although hopefully this will improve as the restaurant gets settled into the new location. On several different visits, we have had dishes and glassware brought to us that have not been completely cleaned, from lipstick on a wine glass to food remnants on a fork. This has happened enough times that it is obviously an ongoing problem. Aladdin's needs to improve its dish-cleaning practices, and have a better quality-control effort before items are brought out to new customers. All in all, this is a perfect addition to the Hudson area, perfect for anyone looking for a nice relaxing meal with healthy, interesting menu options.
