Bay Village is located at 41°29′3″N 81°55′36″W / 41.48417°N 81.92667°W / 41.48417; -81.92667 (41.484193, -81.926581).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.1 square miles (18.4 km²), of which, 4.6 square miles (12.0 km²) of it is land and 2.5 square miles (6.3 km²) of it (34.56%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 16,087 people, 6,239 households, and 4,685 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,473.4 people per square mile (1,341.5/km²). There were 6,401 housing units at an average density of 1,382.1/sq mi (533.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.05% White, 0.27% African American, 0.02% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.98% of the population. 21.6% were of German, 20.4% Irish, 10.6% English, 8.6% Italian and 5.1% Polish ancestry according to Census 2000.
