Where can i find flint (or any sparking rock) in north carolina? Question: i live in southwestern NC (charlotte) i live near a creek that runs through our neihborhood any ideas of where flint would be and wat it looks like? also could anyone tell me what a good thing to strike it would be? (besides a striker u buy) would a knife work? would stainless steel work? is there a way to test positive that the rock is hard enough or watever to spark?

I use the site ww.mindat.org to find rock and mineral collecting sites.
You may want to search under chert, jasper, chalcedony as well as flint since they are all similar.
