Belwood is a town in Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 962 at the 2000 census. Belwood is located at 35°28′51″N 81°30′51″W / 35.48083°N 81.51417°W / 35.48083; -81.51417 (35.480937, -81.514242). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 12.3 square miles (31.9 km²), of which, 12.3 square miles (31.9 km²) of it is land and 0.08% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 962 people, 373 households, and 280 families residing in the town. The population density was 78.2 people per square mile (30.2/km²). There were 410 housing units at an average density of 33.3/sq mi (12.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.22% White, 3.85% African American, 0.10% Asian, 0.21% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.98% of the population. There were 373 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 22.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or
