    Belhaven is a town in Beaufort County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,968 at the 2000 census. Belhaven is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. Belhaven was the hometown of singer Little Eva whose song "The Loco-motion" was a US #1 hit in 1962. Belhaven is also the hometown of World Champion Corndog Eater Ryan Godsell, who bears the towns name as a nickname. Belhaven is located at 35°32′35″N 76°37′24″W / 35.54306°N 76.62333°W / 35.54306; -76.62333 (35.542930, -76.623278). It is on the north shore of the Pungo River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.9 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) of it (21.05%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,968 people, 827 households, and 530 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,313.4 people per square mile (506.6/km²). There were 1,015 housing units at an average density of 677.4/sq mi (261.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 37.30% White, 60.67% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.71% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic
