City DescriptionAtkinson is a town in Pender County, North Carolina in the United States. At the 2000 census, the town population was 236. It is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Atkinson is located at 34°31′40″N 78°10′12″W / 34.52778°N 78.17°W / 34.52778; -78.17 (34.527725, -78.169913).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 236 people, 106 households, and 71 families residing in the town. The population density was 238.5 people per square mile (92.0/km²). There were 117 housing units at an average density of 118.3/sq mi (45.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 89.41% White and 10.59% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.12% of the population.
There were 106 households out of which 25.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
