"Applesauce Bread" at a farmer's market in Aberdeen, NC -- 11 years ago?
    Question:
Hi, I was just reminded of something that I had a long time ago and had forgotten all about until the memory came flying back just today! It was called "applesauce bread" and I got it at a farmer's market either in Aberdeen or Southern Pines, North Carolina --11 years ago now! It is hard to say which town it was actually in, as they kind of run together right there, although it seems like it was just off of an exit on Highway 1, but can't say for sure. Anyway, it was really pretty much just like regular white bread, but it was homemade and had a bit of a different texture to it. It was really delicious and I am wondering if anyone knows of a recipe for it, as I would like to try making it myself. It didn't taste like applesauce and it didn't have any spices in it. Like I said, it was pretty much just some kind of white bread. I imagine the applesauce could have been in place of the shortening or oil or something. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Also, I am wondering if this is actually a regional type recipe, or if it was just something that these people happened to be making and selling.

    Answer:
INGREDIENTS 3 cups all-purpose flour 3 eggs 2 cups white sugar 1 cup vegetable oil 2 cups applesauce 1 cup raisins (optional) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 cup sour cream DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 x 5 inch loaf pans. Beat together eggs, sugar, and oil. Blend in applesauce, and then sour cream or buttermilk. Mix in flour, baking powder, soda, and cinnamon. Stir in raisins. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 80 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
