should horses be put in a 6 hour detention area where it gets to be over a 100 degrees , fans blow hot air?
    Question:
in Belmont track in New York horses are put in horrible conditions so they are not given drugs horses on ask have buckets on their face so they can't eat or drink. I know for a fact I have owned race horses and saw it for myself it was sad and disgusting. How do you feel about this?

    Answer:
I'm glad you brought this question up. I have been saying for quite a while now that I believe horse racing is cruel to horses. It's not like the horse races they had about 100 years ago. Now there's too much greed and money involved and horses are doped up so much and hyped up so they will win. It's just like in any other sports we have nowadays, where humans are doping themselves up. But animals have no choice and it's not fair at all. I think Americans should speak out against cruelty to race horses. Personally, I wish they'd do away with horse racing altogether, but people are so greedy nowadays, I don't see that happening any time soon!

    CALLING ALL HANDICAPPERS...The Belmont Stakes-June 10-2006?
    Question:
Who do u like to win the Belmont Stakes to be run in New York on June 10-2006 ? Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Bluegrass Cat and Peter Pan Stakes (G2) winner Sunriver, excluded from the Derby due to insufficient graded stakes earnings, give trainer Todd Pletcher a formidable one-two punch as the respective morning-line favorite and second choice for the 138th running of the Belmont Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Belmont Park. Bluegrass Cat was listed by New York Racing Association oddsmaker Eric Donovan as the 3-to-1 favorite against 11 other three-year-old males entered on Wednesday for the final leg of the Triple Crown. Sunriver is next at 4-to-1 with Derby third Steppenwolfer at 9-to-2 and Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) winner Bob and John at 5-to-1. The 1 1/2-mile Belmont will be run as the 11th of 13 races on Saturday with post time at 6:33 p.m. EDT. The race will be televised live during a two-hour broadcast on ABC that starts at 5 p.m. Bluegrass Cat has not started since finishing 6 1/2 lengths behind Barbaro in the Kentucky Derby on May 6 and that plan by Pletcher to skip the Preakness Stakes (G1) was specifically designed to get the Storm Cat colt to the Belmont Stakes fresh and ready off five-week rest. "We purposely gave him a few days off after the Derby and he's bounced back really well," Pletcher said. "He hasn't missed a day since and is doing well [heading into the Belmont]." Bluegrass Cat is undefeated in two starts at Belmont, including a win in the Nashua Stakes (G3) on October 28. He later added the Remsen Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct to his two-year-old resume. Bluegrass Cat is one of five entrants seeking to win the Belmont after running in the Kentucky Derby and skipping the Preakness, along with Steppenwolfer, Bob and John, Deputy Glitters, and Jazil. The last Belmont winner to run in the Derby but skip the Preakness was Birdstone in 2004; Empire Maker the year before and Commendable in '00 also accomplished the feat. Sunriver comes into the Belmont after a hard-fought neck victory over Lewis Michael in the 1 1/8-mile Peter Pan on May 20 at Belmont. The last Peter Pan winner to capture the Belmont Stakes was A.P. Indy in 1992, although Lemon Drop Kid finished third in the '99 Peter Pan before his Belmont victory. A full brother to two-time champion Ashado, Sunriver was third and 2 1/2 lengths behind Barbaro in the Florida Derby (G1) but was left out of the Kentucky Derby field. Being excluded from the Derby might not have been such a bad thing in the long run, Pletcher said. "The long-term interest of the horse probably set us up better for the Belmont, but we still would have liked to take a chance in the Derby," Pletcher said. "But it was out of our control, so we went to plan B. The plan then was to run in the Peter Pan and he ran really well in the Peter Pan." Steppenwolfer has trained impressively at Belmont for trainer Dan Peitz since his third-place effort in the Derby. The Aptitude colt turned in two sharp six-furlong workouts in 1:13 on the main track on May 27 and in 1:10.20 on the training track on June 2. "[The 1:10.20 workout] indicates how well he's doing right now," Peitz said. "I hope he transfers that work to Saturday. He did it in hand and had a great gallop out afterwards. It wasn't like we were asking him to go that fast. If we had asked him for it, then I would have been concerned but he did it on his own." Peitz said he expected Steppenwolfer, who was far back in the early stages of both the Arkansas Derby (G2) and Kentucky Derby before rallying, to be closer to the pace in the Belmont.—Tom Law The field, in post-position order, with (sire), jockey, trainer, and morning-line odds (all horses carry 126 pounds): 1. Platinum Couple (Tale of the Cat), Jose Espinoza, Joseph Lostritto, 30-to-1; 2. Sunriver (Saint Ballado),Rafael Bejarano, Todd Pletcher, 4-to-1; 3. Hemingway's Key (Notebook), Jeremy Rose, Nick Zito, 15-to-1; 4. Bob and John (Seeking the Gold), Garrett Gomez, Bob Baffert, 5-to-1; 5. High Finance (Talk Is Money),Eibar Coa, Richard Violette, 12-to-1; 6. Oh So Awesome (Awesome Again), Mike Smith, James Jerkens, 20-to-1; 7. Deputy Glitters (Deputy Commander), Edgar Prado, Tom Albertrani, 15-to-1; 8. Jazil (Seeking the Gold), Fernando Jara, Kiaran McLaughlin, 10-to-1; 9. Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat), John Velazquez, Todd Pletcher, 3-to-1; 10. Double Galore (Grand Slam), Mike Luzzi, Myung Kwon Cho, 30-to-1; 11. Steppenwolfer (Aptitude),Robby Albarado, Daniel Peitz, 9-to-2; and 12. Sacred Light (Holy Bull), Victor Espinoza, David Hofmans, 15-to-1. who will win...?

    Answer:
Jazil, hands down. He's a good closer with a nice come-from- behind kick that, with the extra running room the Belmont is gonna give him, should put him right up front at the finish line. He won't run out of track there like he did in the Wood and the Derby.

    Horse Racing, Biggest Classic Coup?
    Question:
Arnold Rothstein was at New York's Belmont Track when he had the brainwave that was to land him one of the biggest legitimate killings in racing history. Surveying hte crowds clustered round the bookies, he realised the men taking the bets would be too busy to think clearly as the big race action hotted up. He turned to trainer Max Hirsch and said, "what have we got running"? The only horse with a real possibility of winning was a five yr old called sidereal, but Hirsch planning to scratch him for a bigger race the following week, had left him behind the stables. 'Get him here', snapped Rothstein. I'll get the money organised'. The gangster took no chances that his men would be recognised. He borrowed 40 runners from acquaintances who owed him favors. They spread the best through all the on course bookmakers in small amounts. Slowly the horse's odds dropped from 25-1 to 15-1. then five minutes before the off, a second wave of bets was laid. the odds crashed to 3-1, then 8-5, as bookmakers at last realised they had been caught. There was nobody with whom they could lay off their debts, since all faced a heavu payout – nobody, that is, except Rothestein. He agreed to accept bets worth $125000 at 8-5, which guaranteed him against loss. If sidereal won, he collected $850000. In the unlikely event of losing he still made $40000. Sidereal romped home in the six furlong sprint. Rothstein celebrated by going on to a poker game – and winning another $50000. I dont get it, Is it that all the companies like recent Ladbrokes etc negotiated with him?

    Answer:
Remember Barbaro! Before the race started, he busted through the gate! Then when the race started, his leg was mysteriously broken! His odds were even at race time, and he didn't even get a chance to finish. The Baltimore Mafia Irish & Itialian

    Answer:
That's correct. He had backed the horse at high odds, then layed off at much lower odds to the other bookmakers ensuring a guaranteed profit no matter what the result was. You can learn more at: http://www.OnlineBettingExposed.com

can i get into these colleges?
    Question:
if anyone knows anything about these colleges could you let me know if you think i can get in: UConn Furman University Belmont University University of Memphis UT-Knoxville Virginia Tech UNC-Chapel Hill I have a GPA of around 3.65, I live in New York, I've played 3 varsity sports for 4 years and have been team captain my senior year for all of them. ive taken a few AP classes. I have taken classes that relate to the major i wish to persue, music of business or business administration. ive done well on all my standardized tests. im in the top 25% of my graduating class

    Answer:
Well a lot of this will depend on how you did on your SAT/ACT. For Chapel Hill you will need very high scores as that is the most competitive school on your list. If you have some other factor making you unique there it may still be worth a shot but I would consider it your long-shot choice. I would think you should be ok at Furman and UConn but I am less familiar with the specifics of these two schools. You should be good at all three of your choices in Tennessee. I would personally lean towards UTK or Belmont over Memphis. UTK has a great college scene with big sporting events, great restaurants/bars and lots of student activities making it a very enjoyable place to go to school (I did my undergrad here). Belmont is much smaller but has a good reputation and easy acess to all of Nashville. Memphis as a town has more crime and a less student-friendly feel, but this is just my opinion. Virginia Tech has a beautiful campus in Blacksburg which is a nice town. One thing though, there aren't many other towns nearby so it can feel a little isolated and in the winter there is definately snow on the roads (being from NY this is probably no problem for you) and cold weather walking to class. Most of the students love it and wouldn't go anywhere else. (I am originally from VA so I have many friends who went there). Another option you may want to consider is Indiana University. It is in a great college town with lots of unique shops and restaurants. It also has very strong programs in both music and business (My sister was a music major there a few years back and now has a great job). Good luck, you have some great options here.

    Answer:
I haven't heard of a couple of these schools, but with a good essay and showing interest in the school, you can definitely get into UConn and Virginia Tech. You can probably aim a little higher in your college selection. If your looking into buisness, try maybe Claremont McKenna as a reach school, and Villanova.

Bertrand - To Kill A Mockingbird?

    Answer:
Many people think they just pick up a book and read the words. First of all, get a book. This can be a book you want to read, or a book assigned for school or work, or even a book you're reading because someone you know loves it. Try for something you're interested in, as it will be easier to read. Once you have your book, go through the steps you would when choosing a book to read (such as reading the inside of the jacket and the author info). It will help prepare you for what the book is about and you'll be able to sink in a little more. Start reading. No matter how good the book is, or how boring, don't skip over parts or read too quickly. You want to absorb each word and understand every sentence. That's what real reading is, understanding the words on the page. Keep track of what you've read. Mark your page when you need to put the book down. (see tips) It's annoying to delay your reading with a page search every time you start to read. Make an effort. This step is most deceptive. Real reading is trying hard to understand, to immerse yourself, rather then just roboticly drudging through. If you are getting bored, try to stick with your book. Sometimes there will be a lull in the action or romance or whatever the book is about, but give the book a chance to regain your attention. Be careful how you mark your book! This is especially true with library and borrowed books. It's very annoying to find a book that is dog-eared and has a cracked spine from being laid open and face-down. Use a bookmark, and something decent for that bookmark; not just some piece of junk that could harm the book. Always try to keep a pocket dictionary or a reader's dictionary with you when you read any book. It might seem easy, but one misunderstood word can make you miss the entire point or plot of the book. Taking good care of books and keeping bookmarks and dictionaries with you won't make you seem like a nerd, it will make you seem well-read and literate. Books can be a best friend. They can take you to places that you may never see. They can introduce you to things you may never know... but do you know how to read them in order to get the fullest enjoyment possible? This should help. [edit] Steps Find a book. Look in the library or in one of the larger bookstores. Search the shelves until you find a book that looks good. Read the first page to see how it reads. If you find yourself already engrossed, then buy it or check it out. Buy it and take it home. Do not start to read it, until you have the time. If you have to rush reading, because you have to do homework, or prepare dinner, it is best to wait until you are done. Set aside time to do nothing else but read, as it can be at times suspenseful, exciting and relaxing. Settle into a comfortable chair or get comfortable on the couch. Have a lamp on the back of you, lighting the area where you are reading. So that you do not have to get up soon after starting to read, make sure you have brought coffee, candy, popcorn, or any other refreshments you might want to have. Make sure the television is off and anything that could distract you is attended to. Start the book by turning the pages. Do not think about anything else, but what you read. Put yourself into the action or location within the story. Once you get totally engrossed it will be difficult to put the book down. Note that if you find your eyes closing, or if you feel tired, then place a bookmark into the page, shut the book and place it in a safe place. When tired, the mind wanders, and you will no longer enjoy or retain what you are reading. In speed reading, what most people do is they try to eliminate the voice you hear in your head. Hearing that voice is called "subvocalization." If you need to read fast, try to keep that going fast. If speed reading, eliminate it entirely. If you've got time to fritter away, it is recommended you keep it, because it really helps to let the words sink in. Read that last sentence again, students. When you start a book, and find you are not getting interested, read a few more pages. If you still feel bored by the storyline, put it away, and find a more engrossing book. Join a local library. You can order books as they are released, by your favorite author. Save money by not buying. Return the book after you have finished, and find another book. It might be hard to get into a book at first, and you might be tempted to give up and read another book. If you think the book is worth reading, keep trying and continue reading to get into the book...some books have better starts than others, but this doesn't make the whole book better. They have audio books to read while driving in the car. For long trips this can be great. Try to imagine the story in your head. If you're renting a book from your school's library, then keep it in your backpack every night after you read it so you won't forget to give it back when you're done with it. When you are reading a book, you sometimes feel you will never finish it or if you are a slow reader, follow these steps so you read you book quicker. Start by reading the first chapter as normal Leave the book and do something else for a while (T.V, computer etc.) Once you come back to the second chapter, give your self a set time to read , something like 10 minutes to half an hour, that you think you will read the next chapter in,or you could just pick a chapter you want to read to. When you have finished that chapter, read the next if you think you will finish it in time Carry on like this whenever you have time, and because you aren't reading loads at a time, you feel you have read it in less time If you like reading in bed before you go to sleep, instead of having a set time, just pick a chapter you want to get to and read away If you do set your self a time to read in and don't think you will read the next chapter in time, don't rush the book or you will miss important details, just go over the set time till you have finished that chapter.

HotJobs You spend 40-plus hours a week at work, so why not take the time to spruce up your office or cubicle? True, the length to which you can do this will vary depending on your company and industry, but in some cases an empty work area may be interpreted as a lack of commitment. "By about month two-and-a-half or three, employees have personal stuff up there," observed Chana Anderson, director of human resources for Casa de las Campanas. "It could be a picture of their kids or a favorite mug. If employees don't have that, it makes others wonder. It appears as if they're not engaged." Here are some suggestions for creating a personal yet professional workspace. 1. Choose a few conversation starters. Whether you're crazy about the Red Sox, your kids, or your recent trip to Brazil, you can bring some of that passion to work with a few photos, postcards, or other items. "We have a person who travels extensively and when he comes back from vacation, he has a plethora of photos," Anderson said. "People look forward to his pictures. It's a good conversation piece for him and the other staff." Caution: She added that most employers will draw the line at photos of people in bathing suits: "Whether it's that employee or their spouse, that has potential to offend somebody in the workspace." 2. Add a dash of color. Sometimes upgrading those items you inherited from your cubicle's previous occupant can make your space more interesting. Think: a new mouse pad or a memo board in a tasteful design or your favorite color. "I've seen people use nice little upholstery pin-boards," said Caralyn Goeldner, who owns tribeca design and has designed office interiors in the U.S. and Australia. In terms of color Goeldner says, "Yellow is an energy color, and green is a soothing color. Typically I see offices with a blue base. The great thing about those office basics is that you'd have them on your desk anyway, so they add color without adding clutter. Caution: Too many knick-knacks, picture frames, and personal items may make your space look disorganized, so choose extra items carefully. 3. Most importantly, use common sense. If you work at an advertising agency, you will probably have more creative freedom with your space than someone who works at an insurance company. If you greet clients and hold meetings in your office, you may need to keep it more presentable than someone who answers emails all day and never interacts with people face-to-face. Look around the office and see how other people are using their spaces. Jeremy King, business development manager for human resources consulting company FlashPoint, said he's seen his coworkers put up "pictures of family, awards, poems, football schedules, motivational items, and books. Our marketing manager's area has more flair than the rest of ours, but it is definitely fitting with her personality." See? Your workspace really can send a message about the type of person and employee you are. Caution: King added that "if you question whether or not to bring something to the office, don't."
