How many hours will it take at least from Ohio University (Athens) to New York City? Question: There is a very high possibility that i will go to Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) to study. But my girlfriend lives around New York City. I'd like to know how many hours it will take at least from Ohio University to New York City? Is there any railway or airport or any other possible public transportation? Thanks a lot.
Answer:
Flight time is about an hour to an hour and 20 minutes....but with security and transport to and from airports...figure on 4 hours....its about 500 miles...so...with the speed limits at 65....and the state patrol not interested in you at 70...well... if you're going to college...and assuming its not on a football scholarship.... you can do the math.....of course the math only works if there's no traffic..... the river crossings can be a nightmare...so...it only works as far as the Jersey Turnpike...or the west side of the GWB...

How long is a flight from New York City to Athens, Greece?
Answer:
The above two answerers are both incorrect. A flight from Michigan to Frankfurt, Germany nonstop is approximately 8 and 1/2 hours. Then an additional flight from Frankfurt to Athens is close to 3 hours. But mind you, this is from Michigan. It takes a good two hours to fly from Michigan to New York so I'm going to say from New York to Greece it's going to be about 8 hrs total. 6 hrs. to get to Germany and maybe 2 or 2 1/2 to get to Athens from there.

Which city do you prefer? San Fransisco, New York City, Buenos Aires, Rome, Paris, Athens or London? Question: Could you please give each city a number between 0-10 according to your preference?
Also, what do you like most about your top-choice city?
Thanks
Answer:
I would have to say London and NYC. I lived in NYC for almost 10 yrs, so I'm pretty familiar with it. Don't take any offense if people seem mean at first, it's nothing personal. It's just that everyone's rushing. Also, no one really has time to hold grudges, so you'll find if someone does something wrong, or if you do something wrong to them, they'll be over it in a minute. It's the same thing a love about London, except it's a much slower pace. The people are a lot more friendly there, and if you're into sports, you can find a rugby bar just about anywhere. NYC and London are both rich with endless amount of museums. I'd definitely suggest the Museum of Science and Tech, and around the corner from it is the Museum of Natural History (London). NYC has a great Natural History Museum, but the art Museums and galleries are a must.
I didn't like Paris, Rome, nor Athens believe it or not. I was there in the high season which could've been a part of the problem, but people were really rude, especially in Rome. I spoke Spanish as much as a remembered to, because I found most of my friends got ripped off because they only spoke English. Also, if you're coming on a ship (to Rome), I'd suggest you rent a car, because you'll most likely be in Civitavecchia, and it's quite a distance from Roma Termini (last stop in Rome... closer to the Coliseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and going towards the Vatican). I wouldn't suggest anyone stay in Athens, especially if you're of colour. I got sick of how the locals treated me, and a guy explained to me they think I'm from Africa, trying to sell bootleg dvds. Overall, people weren't as friendly as I'd expect. If you're looking to really have a vacation, away from the crowded streets and hustle of the city, I'd say stay in Piraeus (the metro to Monistiraki-Athens isn't a far trips, and lets you off in the market square). I'd also suggest Hydra, one of the Greek islands. They have no cars there, and it has to be one of the most peaceful places on the planet. For Paris, see Rome.
I only have on word for Buenos Aires: AWESOME. The locals were very nice to me, showed me the places where they hang out. If you have time and/or know any of the romance languages, I'd highly suggest you try to communicate with them. You'll discover many exciting things that takes you off the traditional route.
I haven't been to San Fran, but I'd rate it as follows (10 being the highest):
10) NYC
10) London
09) Buenos Aires
05) Athens
04) Paris
02) Rome
I'd say look into places you haven't heard a lot about, such as Dubrovnik, Croatia; Talin, Estonia; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Zurich, Switzerland. Those were some of my favourite countries. Topping the list would be Dubrovnik for me.

Three days in Athens Greece on a tight budget, which places are a Must See in 3 days? Question: I am visiting Athens on my way back to New York, for 3 days - end of August with 2 kids (13 & 6 years old), and am on a rather tight budget. What are the places you would recommend, if you can mention which places day-wise that would be marvellous. Thanks
Answer:
I am sure plenty of people will disagree, but I am not a fan of Athens. See the Acropolis, the Panathenian Stadium, and a couple of the other major archaeological sites and then hit the road, or better yet, water.
Take a ferry to one of the islands - Crete is awesome, but kinda far, maybe Zakynthos. The islands often have cheap (but nice) accomodations and lots of ancient sites and museums. Athens is very crowded, lots of insane traffic, and very smoggy. Greece is great, but I think Athens is just another big city with some cool archaeological sites - Rome is somewhat the same, except Rome has SO MANY sites, it's more worth the effort.
Oh, and your kids can probably get reduced or free admission to most museums (student discounts), so don't let that discourage you from checking out the museums.

Answer:
I just voted... These were my choices:
1. Acropolis, Athens, Greece - because Greece is the cradle of the Western civilization and Acropolis is the symbol of it.
2. Angkor Wat Temple, Cambodia - Buddhists built some amazing structures and because Borobudur isn't on the list, then I'll have to go with Angkor Wat
3. Easter Island Statues, Chile - This is probably the only selectin on the list that truly makes me wonder as to WHY someone bothered to build them!
4. Eiffel Tower, Paris - This was my last pick on the list. I had a hard time deciding but I thought it would be nice to include one truly modern wonder on the list
5. Great Wall, China - That's a non-brainer. The wall is just an amazing feat of engineering.
6. Pyramids of Giza, Egypt - One of the original 7 Wonders of the World, which is still standing and drawing ooh's and aah's.
7. Taj Mahal, Agra, India - It's kind of kitchy, but that may be due to overexposure. Also, I thought India deserves to have something on the list.

What to pack for Athens, Haifa, Istanbul, NY? Question: I am taking a trip to Greece, Israel, Turkey, and NY from end of December to end of January. I'll be on a religious pilgrimage in Israel and Turkey, but visiting family and friends in Greece and New York city, so I'll need to pack formal and casual clothing. I'll be doing lots of walking. I also have to have room to bring gifts. I would really appreciate any suggestions!
Answer:
well, first of all, don't forget your tooth brush! well, be careful because it is FREEZING in Europe now... I live in Greece and I feel as though I am in Siberia so your clothes must be VERY WARM. Pack scarves, ear muffs, any thing that will keep you warm. Pack things that will keep you company on the trip and when you are alone or bored, for instance a mp3 player with music of your choice, a few magazines and any thing else you like... hope i helped!

Any reference on Local Waiters Employees Union in New York, NY? Maybe has a new name? Thanks, George? Question: A friend of mine was a waiter in NY since 1965 and has lost the union reference, his remenber only the LOCAL ONE. Now his live in Athens and don't have any previous reference for it. Any reply is appreciated. George.
Answer:
The Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (HERE), was a United States labor union representing workers of the hospitality industry, formed in 1891. In 2004, HERE merged with the Union of Needletrades, Industrial, and Textile Employees (UNITE) to form UNITE HERE. HERE notably organized the staff of Yale University in 1984. Major employers contracted in this union include several large casinos (Harrah's, Caesars Palace, and Wynn Resorts); hotels (Hilton, Hyatt and Starwood), and Walt Disney World. HERE and later UNITE HERE were affiliated with the AFL-CIO until September 2005, when the General Executive Board of UNITE HERE voted in to leave the AFL-CIO and join with the Change to Win Coalition.

http://www.new7wonders.com/
The choices will be announced in 07/07/07
Answer:
Tough choices - didn't Yahoo have something like this a few months back?
Well, I'd pick the following:
1. Petra 2. The Pyramids 3. The Acropolis 4. Angor Wat 5. Machu Picchu 6. the Taj Mahal 7. Stonehenge
My reasoning: 1. I've picked mostly the "older" sites because I'm more impressed by the ability of people with less technical knowledge (and help) to build what they did. 2. I've seen all the siites I picked, except for Angor Wat (and I've seen many of the sites I didn't pick) 3. Some of the sites I picked have "hidden qualities" beyond their impressive construction (e.g. the Pyramids, Stonehenge, etc. ) in that they are also very sophisticated archeo-astrological instruments.
By the way, I'd like to add one more:
Chaco Canyon (with the amazing Sun Dagger) - please see the links below)

When you read Revelations, doesn't New York feel a whole lot like "Babylon?"? Question: I don't know what this means, you could say a few other metropolises are as "defiled", e.g. Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami Beach, Copenhagen, Tokyo, even Istanbul, Athens, Frankfurt, London, Moscow...
Answer:
I guess it does. The great city, the whole world crying at the downfall of the great city, the shipping ports, the merchants, (if I am remembering correctly what the verses mention about the city)it does seem to fit.

How old do twins have to be before I can travel alone with them on an airplane? Question: I am traveiling round trip from Athens, Greece to New York. My twins will be 29 months old. In the past I have run into the 'one adult per one infant' restriction. Now that they are 2+ do the rules change?
Answer:
Once they have reached their second birthday, they have to have their own seat. This is pretty much the standard rule around the world. You're going to have to ride in three separate seats.
Normally, it's not a problem flying alone with two small children. Some of the cut cost airlines in Europe do have restrictions but I don't think you're flying one of them this time. Be careful of Ryan Air especially.
If you're flying a U.S. carrier, you might want to check out this page;
http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/
Scroll down to see the car seat alternative now available but it's pending EU approval. It can be used on U.S. aircraft, among others for now.

For more information about flying with children in general, I'm a former Flight Attendant who wrote an article. It's totally non-commercial and many parents have contributed to it over the years. For information from another transatlantic flying mom with 13 years' experience in the industry, feel free to visit;

hoe much/ ticket / athens/? Question: How much do you think a plane ticket from Athens (Greece) to New York City will cost?
Answer:
Well this might not answer your question completely, but I use Delphi Airlines to go to Athens during the summer for a round trip ticket, so i stay a month or two then I come back. The tickets are usually $1400 - $1700 but I'm talking about going FROM New York TO Athens. Though because you're starting off from Athens it might be a little less expensive. Hope this helps!
