How much will I spend on gas if I start in Arlington, TX to New York, NY and back?
    Question:
First, what's the fastest route? If we high-roll it, say average gas price is $2.50 by March. I drive a 2001 Chevrolet Impala. Thanks.

    Answer:
You can check on Google earth or you must find the distance on a map between the two cities. Double the distance for the return back plus add miles driven while there. You must know how many miles per gallon your cars goes (aprox 22) on hwy.then divide 22 into the total distance to get the number of gallons then multiply times the ave cost per gallon.

New York is a terrible place, why do some insist on living in that liberal cesspool?
    Question:
I am from Arlington Texas and I would much rather live here as I have a yard and a Chev. Surburban, and live in a more religious area (hardly any Christians in New York, I have never been there but it's obvious because they vote Democrat). I don't have to live in some dumb apartment building, my standard of living is much better than that city. I think anyone who would want to live in New York is just a liberalist elite snob. They don't know how much better I have it. Can someone please tell me why they are dumb enough to live there? Please don't bring up "culture". I don't have the desire to deal with pseudointellectual persuits such as going to art theaters filled with hippies, or deal with modern art. So it's of little value to me and most people who aren't fake. Mike, by Religious I meant saved (I.E., Christians) Kourtney: New York City, Not New york state. I'm sure it's classier where you live.

    Answer:
You're not from Arlington--you're from outer space! How dare you malign a city you've never been to before? Your religious and cultural biases mark you as one of the most bigoted, uneducated people I've met on here. NYC is not Sodom and Gomorrha. There are 5 boroughs that actually have individual homes with yards and sidewalks and even trees! Imagine that! As for being all Democrats--the mayor is Republican--obviously your lack of intelligence is showing again if you didn't know this. I've stayed in or near Arlington several times so I can say with some confidence I'm familiar with your area. I find it to be repressive in that if you're not the "correct" "Christian" religion you're either shunned or ostracized. The people are no friendlier than in NYC--in fact, sometimes I found that if you told them you were from another part of the country that wasn't deemed "acceptable" in their opinion, they looked down their noses at you. Really, other than being a baseball town (isn't that where the Rangers play) and it's proximity to Ft. Worth and Dallas what does it have to offer? If you say small town, well, I can tell you many other places I'd rather live than hot, dry, dusty Texas. NYC has a wealth of jobs in the private, industrial, and government sectors. It's not a matter of paying well, but having a job you can excel at and advance in. You can find a job there in fields such as publishing that Arlington could never pretend to aspire to. There are some of the best colleges/universities available. Some of the leading medical centers in the world are located in NYC. I'm sorry, I just can't get past your ignorance. Hippies? what century are you from? Theatres attract all kinds of people--the pseudo-sophisticated you decry, but also those you genuinely love the arts and support it any way they can. They may give huge donations, but there are also the average people who go as often as they can to the matinees just to enjoy creative work. There's more to art galleries and museums than modern art. You'll find Impressionists, Abstracts, Sculpture, any school of art you could want to enjoy. I pity you and your ignorance. Answer me this: if you read a scholarly book or article on a bibilical theme and you're not a certified, degree-holding religion major, doesn't that make you a bit of a pseuodintellectual? I mean, how dare you presume to understand something intellectual when you have no background in the subject? Isn't that what you're saying about people who enjoy the cultural aspects of NYC? My question to you isn't any more absurd than your thesis. By the way, I'm not from NYC, never lived there, but have enjoyed many trips there. I am proud to say I'm from upstate NY. I had planned on visiting Ft. Worth later this summer, but I think I'll skip it and go where there aren't such narrow-minded people. [Modified] I just saw your comment to Mike. I'm Catholic and I consider myself a Christian because I believe in Christ. In fact, I'm more of a Christian than you because I don't judge people prematurely and without the facts. I was always taught being a Christian meant being open-minded and accepting people not teaching them the errors of their ways because they believe differently. I want to write that you're a pious, self-righteous prig, but then, that wouldn't be Christian of me.

what is the best part of washington dc and new york?
    Question:
im going there with my school this may and if you've been, what is the best part? also, is arlington cemetary cool? I might get to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns there!

    Answer:
In DC the monuments are cool - not only are they moving, but some of them are really great art/architecture. It's hard, for example, not to feel moved walking into the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial's little valley. Check out some of the less known ones, like the Navy Memorial or the incredible Japanese American memorial for these Patriotic Americans during World War II. And the FDR Memorial is almost like an open Art Gallery. The museums are great, too, find one that covers a subject you are interested in, and discover it. I personally like Air and Space but I love the National Museum of the American Indian. The Kennedy Center in DC is very cool - they have a free concert every evening at 6 PM, and the view out over the water is lovely. I really like Adams Morgan, DuPont Circle, U Street and the Penn Quarter/Chinatown for nightlife, dining, and hanging out. Arlington Cemetery is very moving, I am not sure that cool is the right word. but what an honor to maybe lay a wreath! New York others will have to answer. Why do New Yorkers insist on living in such a bad city?
    Question:
I am from Arlington Texas and I would much rather live here as I have a yard and a Chev. Surburban, and live in a more religious area (hardly any Christians in that city). I don't have to live in some dumb apartment building, my standard of living is much better than that city. I think anyone who would want to live in New York is just a liberalist elite snob. They don't know how much better I have it. Also, please don't bring up "culture". I don't have the desire to deal with pseudointellectual persuits such as going to art theaters filled with hippies, or deal with modern art. So it's of little value to me and most people who aren't fake.

    Answer:
People who think like this bug the crap out of me. Guess what: for some the idea of living as you do is as appealing as living in the city is for you. Regarding the Christianity issue: one cannot walk down a street in Manhattan without passing a couple of churches. You also seem unaware that the one of the largest churches in the world and one of the oldest in the nation are both located in Manhattan. As far as the liberal comment goes, I know just as many republicans as I do liberals. Because it is such a large city people are spared the closed-minded propaganda that one finds in little towns. And finally, your standard of living. Can you go to the opera one night, a museum the next morning, and a play or musical the day after that? Can you wander down a different street every day and discover something new that you've never seen before? Can you meet people from all over the world and learn all sorts of things from them? Come on! I've never once seen a "hippy" in an art gallery. I have, however, seen tons of kids learning to appreciate the work that you so cavalierly dismiss. If you were to ever visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art you would learn that the vast majority of the works are NOT modern, these comprise only a tiny portion of the Met’s vast collection. Then again I suppose you think the works of Rembrandt, Bernini and Cezanne are “hippy” garbage, right? How sad for you.

how to get from New York to Arlingiton, Virginia?
    Question:
i mean, is there a bus station near the JFK airport, where i can get on bus to Arlington ?or what is the nearest bus station to that direction?

    Answer:
JFK and Arlington really aren't that close. Look at a map of the U.S. You probably want to fly from JFK to DCA (the airport code for Washington National Airport). Both American and Delta fly nonstop between these two airports. DCA is *in* Arlington, so there you go! Once at DCA, you can take the Metro (train and/or bus) to wherever you need to go. You could also take an Amtrak train from New York's Penn station to Washington's Union station and from there take Metro to Arlington. With regard to taking Greyhound or some other intercity bus service -- I don't know, I guess that's the cheapest option. Why not call them if you really need the cheapest option?

Is the humidity in Texas a dry heat or does it get really warm?
    Question:
I am from New York, I am interested in moving to Arlington within the next few months. I search the weather and see that "humidty is 83%" is this a dry heat or is it blistering?

    Answer:
It's very moist here. Imagine walking outside when the temp is around 95. And imagine there is someone above you wringing a wet sponge over you. That's humidity. It's quite the opposite of a dry heat like you experience in Nevada. It's hot and very moist. You'll want to make certain your AC works in your car.

What are the income taxes if moving to NYC or Washington DC?
    Question:
If I were to move to New York City, I know they have a city income tax, but not how much. But what of Washington, DC, or as opposed to moving to Arlington or one of the surrounding cities? In light of this extra expense, which would be better to move to if I wanted to minimize my income taxes?

    Answer:
NYC & State income taxes Highest in the Country. Double the pain!!!! OUCH!!!!!!! Good Luck!

I'm looking for a small music venue in (or somewhere 'round-about) Arlington, Virginia?
    Question:
I'm in a two piece band from New York. We play a kind of acoustic psychedelic folk rock & roll. We are trying to put together our first tour and we're looking for a small venue with a built-in crowd such as a coffeehouse that features live music (ideally filled strange open-minded attractive people who love psychedelic folk music). www.myspace.com/holysoviets

    Does Texas have scholarship programs?
    Question:
I'm planning on moving to the Arlington, Texas area in about a year or so and am from upstate New York. I was wondering if there were any financial aid or scholarship programs that the state offers residents for college.

    Answer:
Yes, many colleges in Texas offer colleges for academic performance. I applied to Baylor and other less known colleges and they give tons of scholarships. UT Austin and A&M also give scholarships, but they are more competitive. All colleges in Texas give financial aid based on need as long as you fill out the fasfa form.

I have an Old Book that I would like to know about?
    Question:
The book, Harper’s Pictorial History of the War with Spain [New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1899] written by Major General Nelson A. Miles. According to findagrave.com, he was born 8/8/1839 and died 5/15/1925. He is interred at Arlington, Section 3, Lot 1873. My neighbor showed me this and said that it was handed down in his family and wanted to know if I could give him any value, historical significance....ANY info would be greatly appreciated.

Why are Congressmen so frightened of George Bush?
    Question:
Every other month, Teresa Arciola drives from her home in Westchester County, New York, to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia, sits on her son’s grave and reads aloud from “Corduroy,” his favorite baby book. Another mother spent winter afternoons in a sleeping bag stretched across her son’s final resting place. The unspeakable suffering of these parents of dead soldiers stands in marked contrast to the current maneuvering over the Iraq War. George W. Bush appears to be quietly doubling U.S. combat troops by Christmas – and many members of Congress seemed frightened of the political repercussions if they stand up to him. Hey, Neocons...this above is a quote from an article-- all I did is post it. Grow up!

Stupid White Men : Online Chapters "The Sad and Sordid Whereabouts of bin Cheney and bin Bush" A Free Online Chapter addition to "Stupid White Men" by Michael Moore Part One: "What Does a 99-cent Bic Lighter Tell Us About the Bush War on Terrorism?" On September 22, 2001, just 11 days after the terrorist attacks in New York and Arlington, I had to fly. I had actually wanted to fly on September 11, and in fact had a ticket on the 3:00pm American Airlines flight from LAX to JFK. As we all know, that flight never made it off the ground as hours earlier four California-bound flights, two on American and two on United, were hijacked as part of a coordinated suicide mission to attack the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon outside Washington, DC. Stranded in Los Angeles, my wife and I (out there for the annual Prime Time Emmy Awards for our series, "The Awful Truth"), were awakened that morning by my wife's mother, calling us from Flint at 6:15

Does it make sense to fire a "conditioning coach" due to on field performances by the ball-players..?
    Question:
Yanks Give Strength and Conditioning Coach Axe Miller Casualty of Slow Start Despite Short Tenure By PAUL J. WEBER AP Sports ARLINGTON, Texas (May 2) - The New York Yankees fired their strength and conditioning coach Wednesday following a rash of injuries to the pitching staff that has contributed to the team's poor start. Marty Miller was hired by the Yankees in the offseason as director of performance enhancement. He had been with the club only a few months. "It got to the point where the perception is there's a problem here," general manager Brian Cashman said. The 34-year-old Miller will be replaced on an interim basis by Dana Cavalea, who was Miller's assistant. The latest injury to New York 's depleted staff came Tuesday night, when Phil Hughes carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his second major league start before a hamstring injury knocked him out of the game against the Texas Rangers . The 20-year-old right-hander, considered one of the top prospects in baseball, is expected to miss four to six weeks.

    Answer:
i believe so, when your players dont even try during the first half of the season, that goes back to the summer league and how the conditioning coach tried to handle the team
