so i need a place in NY that is close to new york city.
and i need some descriptions and personal experience. i just need a ton of background.
so really what i want to know is:
*town NEAR nyc; preferably small and natury. and it has to have a high school, no matter how small or big it is.
*what is it like there? personal experience.
*facts like: weather in summer/winter/spring/fall? normal temps and such. i don't have any preference to weather, so go crazy.
thanks for any help you can offer!
Answer:
Try Irvington. It's the setting of the book "Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving.
It's a small suburban town. It does have a high school. I was walking on the Croton trail that runs through the center of town (the Croton Aquaduct runs underneath the path and is the underground tunnel that was referenced in Die Hard 3) - anyway I was walking on the trail and I swear every teenage girl in that town was carrying a field hockey stick. It was called either South or North Tarrytown until the 90s.
It borders the Hudson and has some old mansions in the town.
It's cold in the winter, but it has nice days in the summer. The fall has the beautiful foilage colors.
You can incorporate a modern day mystery while referring Washington Irving's books.
Good Luck!
***I didn't realize the person before me said the same towns. It must be a sign to use that town.
I think you mean Albany, NY. I lived there in the 80's. It's a midsize city and the state capital. It's capital building is gothic, as is the Dept of Education building. Other interesting architecture is the Egg theater in the Rockefeller Plaza.
It has a Dutch influence. It is extremely cold in the winter, which is quite long. I lived in the city but their were racoons, owls and possums on my street because it used to be surrounded by farms.
It's a university town also and a lot of the people their attend the State University of NY at Albany (SUNY Albany) or work for the state.
