I get at least one of those e-mails a day. They are scams. If I had won every lottery that I have never entered, I would never have to work another day in my life!! If you give them any of your personal information, especially banking information, they will clean you out!! Delete those e-mails and NEVER give out any personal information to anyone you do not know! You will probably get some telling you that you are the long lost relative of a recently deceased millionaire and are the only living heir to the money. If you go to www.snopes.com you can usually look up these fraud e-mails.

This is the true history of bubble gum and Santa Anna? Question: The advent of modern chewing gum is attributed to Mexican General, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who became infamous as one of the participants of the Alamo As with most great inventions, it was more luck than planning.
After being exiled from Mexico, he introduced Thomas Adams Sr. to Chicle which is a substance derived from Sapota or Saodilla trees. Adams wanted to use the elastic ingredient in experiments to find ways to make more economical car tires.
Although he never was able to produce an economical tire substitute, in the end, he created one, if not the, first mass marketed chewing gums called Adams New York Chewing Gum. The first patent for chewing gum was awarded in 1869 although Adams did not create the first mass production chewing gum assembly line until 1871.
funny, that it was all because Santa Anna claimed he had a replacement for rubber. and this NYC guy wanted to use it for tires.

Im looking for a 1966 John Adams H.S. yearbook? Question: John Adams high school is in O,zone Park Queens New York
Answer:
Long shot, but--where do you live currently? Are you able to check the thrift stores in the area around said high school?
I know someone who owns a thrift store, and they get in old year books quite a bit. You wouldn't believe how many people just throw them away!
If you aren't able to visit the stores, maybe look them up, call them up, and if they don't have anything, ask them if they will hold it for you if they find one.
This is assuming you are able to wait a while, that is, if you don't find what you want right away!

Why John Adams unfairly excluded ladies' suffrage? Question: See these sentence first please.
-1776 Abigail Adams writes to her husband, John Adams, asking him to "remember the ladies" in the new code of laws. Adams replies the men will fight the "despotism of the petticoat."
After one year, In New York, ladies' right to vote was denied.
And..it was only just a beginning.
My questions are..
1.what 'despotism of petticoat' means? Did women do something wrong?Did women dominate man unfairly in the past?Or, John Adams didn't like women(EVen his wife)??
2.Before 1776,Were women's rights superior to men's rights?
(Yet I can not understand why John Adams used that expression)
Answer:
You might want to look into their biographies. Abigail and John had a positively great relationship and were passionately in love throughout their entire adult lives. His letters, and hers, reflect a relationship of great respect and intellectual stimulation.
I like a great deal of what John Adams did, but he was quite collossally fallible - the Aliens an Sedition Act (almost as ridiculous as Bush's Patriot Act) is a particularly nasty example.
Note that what Adams said was that MEN WOULD FIGHT the despotism of the petticoat. What he was unsubtly expressing here is the fact that politicans pander to their constituencies and are more beholden to self and career-preservation than righteousness. the fact that he phrased his thoughts in this way indicates that he knew he would be doing something quite contradictory to his otherwise excellent ideals concerning universal liberty, but that he felt that he must do it anyway.
Despite the fact that he owned no slaves and that he (privately) and Abigail (publicly) detested slavery, he expressed many similar points concerning this and did not press the issue in favor of retaining slave owners like Jefferson, Washington and Madison on his team.
"Despotism of the petticoat" is simply a somewhat insulting but perhaps ironic or sarcastic reference to what his male constituency would be thinking if women were permitted to vote.
This does not excuse him, or any of the framers for excluding anybody from the vote - just providing perspective.

Information on Betty, who was a servent to John and Ann Lamb in 1817? Question: John Quincy Adams listed a Major John Lamb of Connecticut and his wife Ann Ray (a German Ray) who were traveling with him on the ship Washington from London to New York, June 15 through Aug 9, 1817. Does anyone have any information on Betty.
I've been reading JQA's diary. On June 15, 1817 , the Washington was leaving London, and he wrote the names of the first class pasingers, including Mjr Lamb and his wife (not giving first names) who were traviling with there maid Betty. A couple of days later the Cptn let him see the Manifest, which included the first names of Mjr and Mrs Lamb, but did not include Betty (he later remarked that there were 3 people on board not on the manifest). One of my wife's ancestors (Emmiline Holland) is reputed to be a granddaughtor of JQA, and was born in May 1718. Counting back 34-39 weeks, she was conceved AUG-OCT 1717. JQA had three sons, George, 17; John, 15; and Charles, 10. They all arived in NY on Aug 9, after a 6 year absence from the USA. If Emmily is daughtor of George, the mother may have been on the Washington, and Betty is the only one who's last name may have been Holland (except maby Mr Kenny's sistor in sterage, who had no other name listed). I am looking into a long shot.

Does this story show illustrate "Parental Responsibility" in the new America ? Question: New York Parents Say Hot Playgrounds Burning Kids
NEW YORK — Parents in New York City said their children are getting their feet burned while playing on blistering hot playgrounds.
The parents and their supporters said more than a dozen children are scorched each year by hot playground equipment, particularly by black mats under jungle gyms and sliding boards. They said the city is ignoring a public health and safety issue.
Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe said signs have been posted in playgrounds warning against going barefoot. He said his department was not going to remove the mats, calling the city's playgrounds "the safest in the world."
Parks Department spokesman Jama Adams told the Daily News in Monday editions that there have been "no incidents reported" involving children being burned at playgrounds.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,387265,00.htm l
If you know it's hot, don't let your kid play there !
I think it is Parental Responsibility, or lack of it. Parents complain their feet are burned, then why let them play there barefoot?
Answer:
I can see both sides of the issue. Sure, parents should take care and watch their own children, but on the other hand, if you build a playground in a place with hot summers, wouldn't it make more sense to use light colored mats? They do exist, I remember we had green ones rather than black at one playground I used to play (it wasn't because of the heat, it never gets that hot here in my climate... but I recall it because I played horse a lot and it was 'grass' :)).
I think that making kids wear shoes is not a safe advise, because the rubber mats are intended to provide a soft place for children to *fall* on in case they slip off the gyms... and on hot days the kids will almost certainly be wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts! So then they'll be fine as long as they stay standing, but as soon as one of them falls (or for that matter sits down for some reason; kids do sit down on the ground during play!) they'll burn their legs/arms.
But I still think the park authorities should replace the mats. I know there's the green ones we used to have, I'm sure they can also produce rubber mats in white, yellow or other light colors, doesn't seem like such a difficult thing to manufacture and replace. Why do the things have to be black when black isn't functional in warm climates? I'm with the parents, the city should replace them. Not because the parents can't take their own responsibility, but because it's a waste when the playground can't be used for a good part of the day in summer.
