Have you ever been to Carlsbad New Mexico USA ?
    Question:
The famous caves are south of there but what is the actual town like.Any help is welcome.

    Answer:
I lived there for almost 10 years. The above answer pretty much told you about the natural attractions around Carlsbad. Carlsbad is a really nice small town (about 30,000 population) that has the Pecos river flowing through the town. It has a sizable retirement community because of the warm, dry weather and mild winters. It's main economic activities and jobs are with the WIPP site (the Waste Isolation Project) to store low level nuclear waste and the Potash Industry. There are about 6 Potash mines between Carlsbad and Hobbs, NM. The people in Carlsbad are very friendly. It is a ethnically diverse community with a sizable Hispanic population, however the number of African American residents is relatively low and I would guess about 2% of the total population. If you enjoy hunting Carlsbad offers some of the finest bird (dove and quail) and deer hunting in the southwest. Because most of the land around Carlsbad is public it is relatively easy to find places to hunt. Here is a link to their local newspaper: http://www.currentargus.com/

Can anyone please tell me how to look for an alcohol rehab in Carlsbad, New Mexico?
    Question:
My husband has been drinking more alcohol than usual lately. He's gotten more addicted to it. I'm trying to find an alcohol rehab for him, but I don't know how to start. Can someone please enlighten me?

    Answer:
You can always look through your local phone directory. There'll be a list there. You can also ask a doctor for recommendations. I also included links below that you can use. I hope your husband agrees to getting himself treated. It's always tough when the person addicted does not want to get treated. Anyway, I'll keep you both in my prayers. Good luck!

Has anyone been to Carlsbad Caverns in New mexico?
    Question:
    tell me about it!

    Answer:
It's well worth visiting. There is a lot of walking and you are not allowed to smoke in the caverns, but the scenery is incredible. Bring a camera and a tripod. The caverns are too large to light with a flash, but long exposures from a tripod work well. It's always cool in the caverns (as I recall, high 60's or low 70's), but walking through them is strenuous and will heat you up. Dress in layers and bring a bottle of Coke or water or something. I would not recommend eating in the caverns, but there are plenty of good restaurants within a 10-minute drive.

Will be moving to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Just want to know the style of living there.?
    Question:
Not my decision to move here. Want to know what to expect.

    Answer:
If you are moving to New Mexico, excpect friendly people and lots of green chile. I myself have lived in Albuquerque all my 10 years of life. Why not take a little pre-trip here to see what it's like? By the way, San Diego is about an average of 10 degrees cooler (F). Excpect warmer weather, less snow, and blistering hot heat. After all, we are in a desert here. I hope you enjoy NM! PS If you want an AWESOME university/college, try UNM in Albuquerque! If your excpecting a lot of spanish-speaking people (as their main language), don't. We all pretty much speak english.

is there any place in carlsbad new mexico that helps people with cancer they say i need 8,000 dollars?

    Answer:
Any place that tells you up front that they can treat or cure your cancer for 8,000. is running a scam on you. Visit your local medical school or teaching hospital if you have cancer and do not have insurance. There are dozens of quasi-clinics along both sides of the border that claim to cure cancer. Read about this infamous border cancer clinic and see if this is something you would waste your hard earned money to endure. http://www.cancertreatmentwatch.org/victims/ponzanelli .shtml http://cancerguide.org/lsmith_hulda.html

Where would be good places to enjoy the wilderness in New Mexico?
    Question:
I have been to Taos, Carlsbad, Santa Fe, and thats about it.

    Answer:
The Gila Wilderness in the Southwestern part of the state. Also Chama, Ruidoso, Red River, Jemez. Even the Sandia and Manzano Mountains 20-30 minutes East and Southeast of Albuquerque are beautiful. NM has over 16 million acres of acres of forested land, it's not just a bleak desert as some people believe.

Where is there to do in New Mexico?
    Question:
We are taking a trip to New Mexico next month and on our agenda as of now is to visit Carlsbad Caverns, what else is there to do there? I would like to go to the 4 Corners but im not too sure yet. We are willing to travel all over the state. Any input would be great. Thanks Oh and we are comming from Texas if that helps with anything. :)

    Answer:
From Carlsbad Caverns, as you head north you could stop at White Sands National Monument. I think it's very cool, especially if you get to see the military jets fly overhead. http://www.nps.gov/whsa/ I also think that Bandalier National Monument is worth a visit. It is a very interesting place in a beautiful location. http://www.nps.gov/band/ As you are headed to the 4 Corners you will probably be traveling through the Navajo Reservation. In light of that, maybe you'd be interested in the Navajo Rug Auction in Crownpoint, NM, just outside the reservation. That is another very interesting thing to see and the weavers do some simply amazing work. http://www.crownpointrugauction.com/ (It looks like the one for Feb is on the 8th). Those are just a few ideas. There's TONS to do! Have an AWESOME trip!!

What do I need for a trip to New Mexico
    Question:
I've been there a few times, however it's only been to the southern half (Carlsbad, Roswell) One of the times we did labor for all of the day, so I wasn't really concerned with what I needed to bring. This time we are flying into Albuquerque and driving that day to Santa Fe. The next morning we are driving to Taos. This is where I'm confused: It's New Mexico, yet at an elevation of 9,000 feet. Super hot (closer to sun) or chilly? Also my parents are going to be in meetings all day, so I have 9 days to roam by myself. Any suggestions on what to bring or what to do? Thank you

    Answer:
Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, antihistamine ointment in case you get bitten, aloe vera gel, a hat, shorts and t-shirts, comfortable shoes.

Road Trip from San Diego to New Orleans?
    Question:
We'll be heading from SD to New Orleans in March. So far in AZ we've decided to stop at the grand canyon, mesa national park and tucson. In New mexico we want to hit TorC, white sands, carlsbad caverns and roswell. In texas we want to hit san antonio but other than that we're not sure. Any suggestions or advice? we love nature, the outdoors, national parks, and weird quirky roadside stops. also anything historical or just downright interesting. megaparks and supermalls need not apply. Thanks guys!

    Answer:
Once you get to New Orleans you won't need a car to get around in the French Quarter, central business district, or Warehouse District. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. Park your car in a lot or garage and leave it there unless you are traveling away from downtown. The Regional Transit Authority (www.norta.com) offers single and multi-day passes for using the buses and streetcars. there are also lots of taxicabs. Things to do in New Orleans: Mardi Gras and the Jazz Festival are world famous events, but New Orleans hosts many festivals and celebrations throughout the year: www.nola.com/festivals The Saint Charles Streetcar is the oldest continuously operating street railway in the world and is a "tourist attraction" in its own right. It is part of the public transit system, as are the Canal Street and Riverfront streetcar lines: www.norta.com There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music. Note that music clubs often advertise "No Cover", meaning there is no charge for entering. However, clubs with "No Cover" often require that customers buy a beverage each for every "set " of music (which can be every 20 minutes) so KNOW THE PRICE before you sit down. Clubs do that because some people will sit in the club all evening drinking nothing (clubs only make money from the drinks they sell - not from the music). It is also a good idea to pay for each round of drinks (in clubs on Bourbon Street) as it is delivered so there can't be any confusion at the end of the evening. An incomplete guide to bars & clubs: http://www.neworleanscheapdrinks.com/ About certain alcoholic beverages: Realize that some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 ½ ounces of alcohol. For example, a Hurricane is basically 3 or 4 ounces of rum in something like red Kool-Aid, and a Hand Grenade has at least 4 ½ ounces of Everclear + rum + vodka mixed with melon liquor. They don’t necessarily taste like an alcoholic beverage and it is easy to over-indulge. Wander around the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, watch the street entertainers (do tip), and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums (go to www.frenchquarter.com and click on Historic Attractions). Assuming the weather is good, you can collect a sandwich lunch and eat in the riverfront park (watch the shipping) or in Jackson Square (a very nice park). The Riverwalk shopping center has an air-conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river (www.riverwalkmarketplace.com). The Canal Place shopping center is in the French Quarter and has a cinema and higher-end shopping (Saks 5th Avenue, Brooks Brothers, etc.) The lobby for the Westin Canal Place Hotel is on the 11th floor and overlooks the French Quarter. It is a great place for an afternoon drink/snack:(www.westin.com). Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn't miss having cafe au lait & beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d'Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food in addition to pastry. The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about July 25th to about September 25th each year. Maximo's Italian Grill has great food and atmosphere: 1117 Decatur Street in the French Quarter, (504) 586-8883. All of the famous restaurants (Antoine's, Arnaud's, Brennan's, Commander's Palace, etc.) have reopened. The Pelican Club (on Exchange Alley in the FQ) is not as well known but is the same type experience. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends. Tujaques Restaurant (823 Decatur Street) is very traditional and has moderate prices: http://www.tujaguesrestaurant.com/ Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays (504-945-5635). The Napoleon House restaurant is at 500 Chartres Street in the FQ, and has a menu of great local dishes: http://www.napoleonhouse.com/ Preservation Hall has traditional live Jazz, and doesn’t serve alcohol so all ages are welcome: www.preservationhall.com/ New Orleans has ballet, opera, a symphony orchestra, and theatre: www.nobadance.com www.neworleansopera.org www.lpomusic.com www.lepetittheatre.com There is a free ferry across the Mississippi at the "foot" of Canal Street. It is a short trip but like a harbor cruise w/o a guide: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canal_street_ferry The Aquarium, Audubon Zoo, and the new Insectarium are world-class

Sumner is pretty good for Walleye, Bass (LM, SM, Kentucky, White) Catfish and a few Pike. Trout are stocked behind the spillway during cold months and there are also Bass, Walleye and fairly decent sized Channel Cat. If planning to fish the spillway, call ahead to make sure the area is open to fishing as at times they close the area to release water from spillway. Ute and Conchas are also good ( I prefer Ute) and not crowded except during summer months and weekends. A weekday fishing trip to Ute is normally very quiet during the spring and fall months. You will need a boat to fish these lakes as shoreline access is limited due to steep and high banks in most areas. Another good place for fishing/camping is Pecos Wilderness although I have only been during the summertime. Do a websearch for more info on best times. The links DJ listed has some great info as well. If you are looking for a place to fish that is not listed above, email me and I will let you in on a few not-so-well-known spots.
