Question:
My husband called me from Iraq and told me that his Squadron is looking for volunteers to PCS to Cannon AFB, New Mexico. I can't seem to fnd too mch info on AF Crossroads or the Base website. Can anyone out there that has been there give me an overview? We ae currently stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida and we really hate it (too touristy). I don't mind the heat :0)
Thanks for the link! It actually sounds like we would really enjoy it. Eveyone thinks that Eglin is so fantastic and we just really don't care for it at all. It is not family oriented..there are just clubs all over the place. Everything is geared to the single Airmen and single people in the area. We'll do further research into Cannon but it sounds right up our alley :0)
Answer:
Pass on Canon unless you want to go to a base that is frequently referred to by the nickname "the armpit of the Air Force". Middle of nowhere outside of Clovis, NM. However, I've heard some people like it, but most I've talked to don't (most people I know that have been there would kill to trade your husband assignments). You definitely won't have a tourist problem there! :) I guess I shouldn't really trash it since, in reality, every base is what you make of it (but I'm sure you know that already).
