The World; Racism? Mexico's in Denial? Question: New York Times By ANTHONY DEPALMA
SHROUDED in mystery and myth, the heroes of Mexico's Aztec past are honored in glorious monuments all over the country.
But the living descendants of Moctezuma are not allowed to eat in some of Mexico City's best restaurants.
Although all Mexicans are considered equal under the country's Constitution, Mexican society remains deeply divided on racial lines. And as the richest and poorest of the 91 million Mexicans are driven farther apart by such sweeping changes as the North American Free Trade Agreement, many Mexicans are starting to discover the dangers of their own deeply ingrained -- yet rarely acknowledged -- brand of bigotry.
The racial inequities are not just limited to the Maya Indians in the state of Chiapas who took up arms on the very day Nafta took effect more than a year ago, in what is slowly taking on shades of a national civil rights movement for Indians. Indigenous people all over Mexico, and those with Indian features -- and dark skins -- all feel a degree of the same kind of intolerance.
Bigotry? What Bigotry?
While Mexicans typically deny that discrimination exists, the not-so-subtle racial undertones of their society are apparent to foreigners who live and work here since Nafta was passed. When Henry B. McDonald, director of the Cushman & Wakefield Real Estate office in Mexico City took his family out for dinner last November, he didn't think twice about inviting his 45-year-old housekeeper, Gabriela Miranda, an Indian. It was a Friday night and they went to a popular Italian restaurant called Prego in the Polanco section of Mexico City.
"We got there early by Mexican standards, around 7:45, and the place was empty," Mr. McDonald said. "But we stood there waiting and waiting until finally the maitre'd came along and told me, in English, that domestics are not served here." Mrs. Miranda was not wearing a uniform, Mr. McDonald said. The restaurant simply assumed that because she was an Indian she was a maid.
The restaurant manager, Mario Padilla, acknowledged that it is policy at Prego and other top restaurants to prohibit servants and drivers, many of whom are Indians. "The type of people who usually come to restaurants of this class all have servants, but they usually leave them at home," Mr. Padilla said. He said the restriction was needed to protect patrons against people who "lack discretion" and try to bring their servants. He denied the policy was discriminatory. "We're not racists," he said. "We're just trying to protect the image of the restaurant."
Answer:
Well, In my opinion Mexico society is racist and classist. People in Mexico assume that a white person belongs to a good economic class. I dare to make a list of social preferences on "first sight" in public places in Mexico:
1.- White people good dressed, educated and non educated
2.- Mixed White-Indian people good dressed, educated &
White people bad dressed, educated
3.- White people bad dressed and non educated
Mixed White-Indian people bad dressed, educated
Indian people good dressed, educated
4.- Mixed White-Indian people bad dressed non educated
Indian people bad dressed ,educated
5.- Indian people bad dressed non educated
But at the end, "Money talks"...

Would you trust this illegal immigrant from Mexico with your kids his lawyer yes you can Y/N? Question: FREEHOLD — An illegal immigrant from Mexico was sentenced Friday to five years in prison after pleading guilty to inappropriately touching the 6-year-old daughters of his former girlfriend.
Milton Estrada, 30, who was living in Long Branch at the time of the incident, was sentenced to a five-year prison term, fines and supervised parole for life after state Superior Court Judge Anthony J. Mellaci Jr. rejected a plea for leniency from his attorney.
"I've known this man for over 600 days," defense attorney John M. Peduto told the judge in arguing for a lesser sentence. "I'd trust this man with my own daughters."
"That's all well and good, Mr. Peduto. Maybe you'd leave your daughter with him, but I wouldn't leave my daughters within 200 yards of this man," Mellaci replied.
Mellaci pointed out that Estrada admitted inappropriately touching the two young girls, when he pleaded guilty in September to two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. But the judge added that the admittance in court was counter to what Estrada told evaluators at the state's adult diagnostic treatment center in Avenel.
In his own statement to the court, Estrada said through an interpreter that he had a son in Mexico. Mellaci told him, "You probably should have stayed in Mexico with your son."
Estrada was credited with serving 546 days of his five-year sentence, fined $4,080, ordered to have no contact with the victims and will be subjected to supervised parole for life and will have no unsupervised contact with anyone under 15-years-old.
"In my mind, he is a real danger," Mellaci said from the bench.
Estrada is an illegal immigrant with a detainer from federal authorities, who will deport him after his release from prison.

Answer:
No.
A illegal alien got out of jail and hit my son in my car. His wife
was told my 21st century that he under no circumstances can
drive her car. She gave him the keys to the car to get a loaf of bread.
Instead he bought a bottle of booze, went to pick up a prostitute and then rear ended my car, sending my son and his girlfriend into 4 park cars!
It wasn't until this that he was returned to jail and then he will
be deported for life.

Why do we have our good men and women in the national security services dying to protect Iraq and sending them Question: to jail protecting America?Amid protests and a flurry of last-minute efforts by congressmen, two border patrol agents are scheduled today to begin long prison sentences for shooting and wounding a Mexican drug smuggler who was granted full immunity to testify against them.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/printer-friendly.asp?ARTICLE_ ID=53805
January 17th, 2007 the day the president declared war on America. So George, how's it feel to make the worst possible decision in your life? Who do you think you work for? Your legacy will be the selling of America to Mexico and the terrorists, border guards are scared $hitle$$ to enforce the law with an idiot like you to back them on national security. I can't imagine a poorer decision rendered possible by even a democrat.
"President Bush recently issued his year-end pardons, and those receiving good news included" :
-Marie Georgette Ginette Briere of Gatineau, Quebec, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
-George Thomas Harley of Albuquerque, N.M, aiding and abetting the distribution of cocaine.
-Eric William Olson of Ojai, CA, possession with intent to distribute hashish.
-Phillip Anthony Emmert of Washington, IA, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine (commutation of sentence).
There are two messages going out.
1. If you are a border patrol agent, do not agressively enforce the laws of the United States. 2 If you are a Mexican and want to run dope into this country, we have paved a smooth legal highway for you. Come on in ...Would you agree ?
Answer:
Anyone connected with the prosecution of these two fine men are traitors and should be prosecuted themselves. Bush is a disgrace to himself and the nation he supposedly represents.
Notice how he pardoned drug dealers but refused to pardon those that pursued a drug smuggler. Wouldn't want to interrupt the supply chain. There is definitely a rat hiding behind that Bush or is it a Fox?

Do people need to cite sources for the Holocaust, or only the Inquisition? Question: Cortez's use of Holy Water in baptizing infants. Hernán Cortés, Letters – available as Letters from Mexico translated by Anthony Pagden. You can go down to the library, do a database search (Lexis Nexis would probably have it). These are actually literal letters Cortés sent to the Vatican, asking for guidance in baptizing infants he would murder.
Pizarro's identical use of baptism pouches for slaying children under seven. Conquest of the Incas, John Hemming, 1973.
Both of these men were inquisitors acting on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church.
This is in regard to the calls for sources on this question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgDuDxa wmRLZiroL9MD6TCfsy6IX?qid=20070202113144AAi6s9N
Apparently people still think inquisitors were angels.
Answer:
that's not surprising. the words "inquisition" and "inquisitor", at least when used in connection to the RC church, seem to be synonymous with "atrociously evil."

iam_sohappi please try to find easier question, this one went way over your head, Huh ?
Answer:
Anyone who is capable of reading should have understood your question. The pros live their lives by taking on other people's problems, perhaps it's time to take a long hard look at their own. Maybe it's too frightening for them to face logic and understand what national destruction really means.

Interesting books? Question: I'm going on a trip to Mexico, and i need books to entertain myself. Suggest any type of books, really.
Books i'm already going to get are:
Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Go Ask Alice
The Bell jar by Sylvia Plath
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Lolita by Vladamir Nabokov
The Stranger by Albert Camus
So pretty much anything would be great.
Thanks. :]
Answer:
"The Bean Trees" by Barbara Kingsolver is a fun, quirky novel. I would recommend it.
Or I'm into murder mysteries. So anything James Patterson, Janet Evanovich, and Mary Higgins Clark writes is entertaining.

you want proof of miracles in the catholic church to show she is a true church? Have you heard of the miracles Question: of Francis Exhavier, Francis of Assisi, Padre pio? the cure of ars? Maria Taigi? anthony of Pauda? the miracles of Fatima? the miracles of Lourdes? The miracles of the Eucharist? The miracles of incurruption even after 100 yrs? The miracle of Guadulupe Mexico? La Salette? Miracles of raising the dead? I must agree with our Lord, who said, alas, even if someone should comeback from the dead, even so , they still would not beleive.
Answer:
No matter what some of our protestant brethren choose to accept or reject, history duly records the 7.5 MILLION native Mexican people who converted to the Catholic faith in response to the apparition of Our Lady of Guadelupe, according to St. Juan Diego, in 1531, just as many in Europe were falling away from the true church.
The conversion was so great, that it was necessary to baptize converts from dawn to dusk, seven days per week, for more than three straight years.
Mexico remains a predominantly Catholic country to this day.

Why did Clinton pardon these people.?
Answer:
All presidents pardon people including Bush who has pardoned rapist.
Most presidents, including Clinton, never gave a pardon or anything else, to a person from his staff that was convicted of making false statements and Obstruction of justice! Clinton didn't even know the people, much less have him be a member of the white house staff! We know who leaked the name anyway. It was George Bush!
The only one I can recall is when Ford pardoned Nixon, and that cost him a presidency!
Lets see how many people Bush pardons his last day's in office!

The racial inequities are not just limited to the Maya Indians in the state

Answer:
very true...the whites have the better jobs, get all the advantages that a "native" mexican wouldnt get.... Guadalajara has the most white mexicans. Many of them can easily trace their European ancestry because they never mixed with the native indians. Mestizos are right behind them too. they re the ones with mixed ancsetry that makes up most of the population. Mexico is filled with not only whites with roots in spain, but from Germany, poland and russia.....there are alot of germans in MX. heck, they even have a huge VW plant....they actually had it there for years. Many jews and lebanese live there too..... MX city alone has over 500, 000 americans, most whom are white..... It s sad but true. there's also discrimination towards the afro mexicans. the ones that came from the carribbean, mainly cuba. Most of them are in the SE part of MX

Fort Ticonderoga
On the 9th of April the revolution begun. The rebels (the British detachment) realized that they needed to have a successful siege or military operations. Expedition began to be planned to capture the fort. When Ethan Allen and his green mountain boys of Vermont on April 28, Benedict Arnold convinced the Massachusetts committee of safety to authorize his expedition. Arnold learned about Allen’s expeditions and left his men to catch up with Allen.
Arnold arrived wanting to take control of the expedition. Since the Green Boys wouldn’t follow he and he left his men behind, both men agreed to share the command. On May 9, 1775 about 100 men crossed Lake Champlain the next day went into the fort. Allen yelled,” Come out of there, you damned old rat! “The commander of the fort came out quickly and surrendered the fort. Each of the men took 100 cannons.
Long island
The British realized the importance of New York’s focal points that has communication between the northern and southern colonies. Washington recognized this as well, so on April1776 he and his troops marched from Boston to New York on the west end of Long Island where he positioned his troops. The American frontier of Colonel Edward Hand’s told that the British were getting ready to cross Long Island from Staten Island on August 22 before sunrise. General William Howe (British) defeated General Charles Lee at the battle of Long Island. The British lost 63 killed and 337 wounded and missing.
Washington had lost about 970 men killed, wounded or missing, and 1097 taken captive. When George Washington arrived on august 27 he didn’t have time to get mad at the person who lost the war. He had oversaw the construction of new fortifications on Brooklyn heights. On august 28 9000 men arrived to boost the number of people under Washington’s command. On august 29, Washington cool and firm command exacted superb discipline from green troops; they remained quiet throughout the ordeal. Washington’s army lived to fight another day.
World News: Mexican-American war
On November 1845 President James K. Polk sent John Slidell to Mexico with an offer of 5,000,000 for the purchase of New Mexico and 25,000,000 for California. In 1846 during the battle of Balo Alto the first important engagement of the Mexican War fought with the Mexicans on the losing side. In the battle of Resacadela Palma U.S. forces under General Taylor forced the Mexican army back across the Rio Grande U.S. forces crossed the Rio Grande lead by General Zachary Taylor. The Americans occupied Matamoros.
In 1847, at Cerro Gordo General Winfield Scott met and defeated a Mexican force about 13,000. Peace negotiations with Mexico were initiated through the British minister, Charles Bankhead. At Churubusco general Winfield Scott defeated an estimated 12,000 Mexicans. In 1848, the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed by the U.S. and Mexico on February 2 formally ended the Mexican American war. The war resulted in 1721 dead and 4102 wounded, in addition some 11,155 Americans died of diseases as a result of the war.
Germantown
In the beginning of October Washington still had 11000 continentals and militia dispersed along several miles north of Germantown, Maj.Gen. John Sullivan’s column of 3 brigades on the division. It began the 3rd of October during night. Under cover of a heavy early morning fog, he drove in the enemy pickets and rolled back Howe's light infantry and the 48th Regiment.
With no immediate help on either side, especially to the east, Sullivan was forced to spread his troops sending Brig. Gen. Anthony Wayne to the extreme left. Howe reported 537 killed and wounded and 14 captured. He recognized, after his narrow victory, that he could not string out his troops as he had done without courting attack. A few weeks later, he evacuated Germantown and reestablished his troops in a line of forts north of Philadelphia.
Trenton
As soon as Fort Lee was abandoned, Washington began to withdraw his army across New Jersey toward Philadelphia. About 5,000 Americans left Hackensack on November 21, 1776, and retired without casualties 100 miles to safety behind the Delaware River on December 7. It was a critical time for George Washington. He had just been soundly defeated in New York and morale was very low. At about eight o'clock on the morning of December 26, 1776, American troops surprised a Hessian picket guard, stationed in houses along the Pennington road about a half mile outside Trenton. Despite a disorganized show of resistance, the Germans were quickly captured or dispersed.
St. Mary's Cathedral and its rectory, standing at the end of Warren Street, mark the former sites of the Green Tree Tavern, where Colonel Johann Gottlieb Rall ate Christmas dinner, and of his headquarters at Stacy Potts' dwelling, where he died of his wounds. While playing cards at the residence of Abraham Hunt, a Tory farmer passed him a note of warning. It was found, crumpled but unread, in his waist coat pocket the following morning. He was buried in an unmarked grave within the bounds of the graveyard of the First Presbyterian Church on State Street. Five Hessian officers and six enlisted soldiers were killed; another eighty of the enemy were wounded. Informed along the march by courier that the storm was making muskets unfit for firing, Washington responded: "Tell General Sullivan to use the bayonet. I am resolved to take Trenton."

Good wireless internet company??? Question: I am looking for a good wireless internet company. Any suggestions? I live in New Mexico. (SW USA) I travel between Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Grants, Roswell, Anthony, Las Cruces (all in NM) and El Paso, TX.
I travel a lot. I heard Verizon is good because you get good connection in various areas. But I also heard you are limited to the amount of browsing you can do. Something like 5G/line/month. Anything over that, and they will terminate your service and charge you a fee for early termination.
I was wondering because in my work, I send large files. I work in the medical field and I spend about 14+ hours on the internet a day.
Answer:
Comcast High Speed Internet-
good wireless: D-Link
that's what i use and it works perfectly fine, i send a lot of huge file transfers to Persia daily and it always works fast and perfect!
