Can i legally rent out a room in my house in burlington county new jersey? Question: i need to rent out a room in my hosue in order to pay the mortage but i want to know if anyone knows if this is legal....Thank U
Answer:
Hey my mom lives in burlington county!
yes, you have to check the zoning law if you plan to "legally" do it like make profit on it and legally rent to someone.
If you have a friend or family member splitting the rent with you- you don't need to claim it or legally do anything. I personally won't tell anyone or get involved with the county because you just renting a room- not making an apartment in your house. This way you don't pay taxes on the rent your recieving. The down fall of that is that it's hard to get rid of someone if they are crazy..... Just take the time and get a credit check down- at their cost which is like $20 and do check all their references and check with their work to make sure they really work there. Just call up their work and ask for them- simple as that.
Good luck

Have tried using google maps but that doesn't tell me the best way to get ther from New York, ie do I take a train, ferry, subway. ertc etc etc. Havbing never been to New York and living in England not sure best mode of transport.
Answer:
Try Google maps, mapquest, or similar websites - That's what I do before I visit the States, and I've toured Arizona, the Grand Circle, the Pacific Highway, New England, and various other locations no bother, right down to finding the exact locations of hotels and lodgings, so if you have zip codes or addresses, you should have no problem.
I'm surprised it's taken someone who lives several thousand miles away to be the one to point you in the right direction!
