Questions Possibly Related to Papillion, NebraskaProvided By Y! Answers
Relocating to Papillion Nebraska from CT? Question: We are a family with young children, loking for as much info. about jobs (I'm an EMT-B also owned a dry cleaners and florist so thats an option ) schools, Weather ( is there a lot of snow? are there beaches? ) What types of recreation is there? Any info. first hand is appreciated. Thanks
Answer:
Beaches? Are you kidding?
Papillion is basically a suburb of Omaha and is expanding rapidly with nice but rather generic middle and upper middle class developments. It has fairly good public schools by reputation, and is within reasonable driving distance of Omaha's excellent Catholic schools. Papillion is also pretty safe and friendly and has a nice low cost of living, so I'd consider it a good place to raise a family.
There are several nice parks in the area, many with lakes, though generally not lakes I'd want to swim in. There are several state parks (Platte River and Mahoney) not too far from Papillion that offer nice recreational opportunities, including a really excellent water park at Mahoney. The area has also been improving its trail system if you like biking or walking. Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue (another former city turned suburb that is due east of Papillion) has a boardwalk and lots of children's nature programs, as well as some decent hiking trails. Omaha also has a world-class zoo, a children's museum, the College World Series, good youth sports, and plenty of other family-friendly activities.
The weather is cold in the winter, hot in the summer, and generally sucky except for a few weeks in fall (be sure to enjoy the apple orchards in Nebraska City) and spring (tornado season, but otherwise pleasant). There is not necessarily a lot of snow, but it's a possibility that can not be discounted. It generally is sunny, though, which is nice, and the heat and humidity of the summers are almost always offset by a nice breeze.
Another disadvantage is the sprawl - you NEED to own a car here, and possibly two, if you want to do anything.
Depending on your politics, you'll either love or hate the political climate. It's very Republican.
