City Description

Axtell is a village in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Kearney, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 696 at the 2000 census. Axtell is located at 40°28′48″N 99°7′38″W / 40.48, -99.12722 (40.479905, -99.127265). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 696 people, 258 households, and 190 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,808.9 people per square mile (707.2/km²). There were 277 housing units at an average density of 719.9/sq mi (281.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.85% White, 0.14% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.43% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.58% of the population. There were 258 households out of which 41.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.0% were non-families. 22.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
