What's it like in Big Sky country..Montana?

    Answer:
My wife and I visited the resort of Big Sky, Montana last year, which is not far from Yellowstone NP. I was there for a work-related conference. The resort was a lot more upscale than places we usually stay. I'm assuming you're talking about the whole state of Montana though rather than the community of Big Sky. The small piece of it we saw was beautiful, as was Wyoming. I'd love to go back again some day when we had more time to explore.

Why is the sky bigger in Montana?
    Question:
As I was driving across Montana on Interstate 94 I noticed that the horizon actually looks bigger. Wide open spaces might an easy answer, but North Dakota has open spaces too and it's horizon didn't look as big. Could it have something to do with Montana's mountains?

    Answer:
Big Sky is a phrase that is generally used in references to areas of large expanses of flat land. Montana has this along with a clean air, which results in a crisp blue color.

How much of a tip should be left for the maid after staying at a nice hotel for a week?
    Question:
To be specific, we have been staying at a ski resort in Big Sky, Montana.

    Answer:
We travel a lot and there are a few ways to handle this. If you have the same maid everyday, you can tip at the end of the trip. Of course the quality of service is going to dictate the generosity. If service has been really good we have a tradition of leaving all the loose change we've ended up with at the end of our stay, any unopened food or sodas, liquor etc.. and cash equivalent to $10.00 per day. We fill out the courtesy card about the service if they have one and always leave a little thank you note telling the maid the aforementioned items are for her. If we see that it is a different person each time, lwe eave a cash tip on the bed with a note. You can also call the desk manager and ask them if the cleaning staff split a tip pool, then you can leave a tip in an envelope marked "maid service" with the desk when you check out. I have always found leaving a tip everyday with a thank you get us extra special service. I always let the manager know if we get great service because it really counts when the service staff have thier employee review. If we are generous to the cleaning staff, (which most people treat like they are invisible) I have found we get great service from all the help staff at the hotel because they all talk to each other about how guests have treated them. It pays to acknowlage them and say thank you.

Any ideas for a vacation/wedding for a non-religious couple that doesn't want to get married in a church?
    Question:
My fiance (male) would like to go to Lake Tahoe Nevada or Big Sky Montana or The Virgin Islands to get married. I like the idea. Neither of us are traditional as far as church, formal attire etc. The part I'm concerned about is asking our closest family and friends to spend their vacation time and $ on our vacation/wedding. We'd like to go for 10-14 days and have our closest people (less the 15 people) there for 2-5 days. We also don't want to invite the young children because 3 of them inparticular are completely out of control and the parents do nothing about it. They are allowed to scream as much as they want, when they want. What would be appropiate etiquette for this? What about family that should be there and can't afford it? Should we just set an allotment we pay per head to attend and beyond that they pay the rest? HELP! Thanks.

    Big Sky Country?
    Question:
If you have ever been to Montana you know why it is called "Big Sky Country." The beautiful blue sky seems endless. But, Why does it seem so big? I have heard it is because Montana is so sparsely populated and there is a lack of buildings to block the horizons. I have trouble believing this is the only reason though. I am from northwestern Oklahoma which also has a low population. But, I do not notice the sky as being quite so big there. Does it possibly have something to do with the Rockies to the west. It has to be some sort of optical illusion. Like how the moon seems larger on the horizon than it does at center sky. Does anyone have a logical answer for me???

    Answer:
Lucky for you, I live here! I think there are two reasons for our big blue sky: Little pollution and then the rockies. We also have plains to the east, which gives us the title 'Big Sky Country'. Hope my info has been helpful!

Really great places in SW Montana????
    Question:
I will be in SW Montana (Big Sky/Bozeman/West Yellowstone) for the first time at the end of this month. Skiing in Montana?
    Question:
has anyone ever gone skiing at Big Sky in Montana? i'm going there in a couple weeks and i'm super super excited but i wanna know how the skiing is! i went to deer valley in park city like 2 years ago and it was amazing. does big sky measure up?

    Answer:
I've never skied Deer Valley, but I live in Utah and usually ski at Alta. Big Sky will probably be a heck of a lot better than Deer Valley though in regards to terrain. Big Sky has a ton of stuff you can find to ski for advanced skiers, and is not as glitzy as the Park City resorts.

    Visiting Big Sky Country?
    Question:
An old friend invited me to visit Montana. I'm open to visiting SD and WY too. I have visited Yellowstone once, on a whirlwind tour thru the park. I'm thinking of seeing Mt Rushmore and maybe Devil's Tower, and maybe Galcier National Park and maybe the Grand Tetons. I am in love with the IDEA of big skies but don't know what to expect. I'd like to hear from you folks what to see/do in (i) MT (ii) SD/WY. Thanks. PS - Lol, Yahoo Answers doesn't even have a category for MT. Is this a warning for what to expect there? :-)

    Answer:
I visited there the end of August, beginning of Sept. and although it was warm during the day it was cold at night. Also Glacier Nat. Park has high altitudes, so even in the daytime it can be cold. Bring clothes you can layer and a hat, gloves and a warm jacket if you like to explore the outdoors. Of course good walking shoes are a must. Flathead Lake was an interesting visit too. In SD the is a work in progress of AN Indian chief being carved out of a mountain just so. of mt Rushmore, that would be interesting to check out. I think it's Sitting Bull.
