City DescriptionBasin is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson County, Montana, United States. It lies about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of the Continental Divide in a high narrow canyon along Interstate 15 about halfway between Butte and Helena. Basin Creek flows roughly north to south through Basin and enters the Boulder River on the settlement's south side. The population was 255 at the 2000 census.
Archaeologists have discovered evidence of human habitation from 10,000 years ago at a site near Clancy, 20 miles (32 km) from Basin. From about 2000 BCE through the mid-19th century, nomadic tribes hunted bison in the grassy valleys that trend east, away from the Rocky Mountains and into the plains. By the time miners found gold in the streams in and near Basin, most of the these tribes of Indians had been forced onto reservations by the U.S. government.
Basin rests above the Boulder Batholith, the host rock for many valuable mineral ores found in this part of Montana. After the town became a hub of gold and silver mining, Basin's population peaked at about 1,500 in first decade of the 20th century but gradually declined as the mines were depleted. Abandoned mining equipment, closed or ... Read MoreCity Contained By:Timezones:Size:

Questions Possibly Related to Basin, MontanaProvided By Y! Answers
I want to locate a website with current crude oil price per barrel in the Williston Basin, Montana? Question: I am trying to search for a website on the internet that I can access daily to find the current price per barrel of crude oil. This would be for the Williston Basin region in Montana.
Answer:
Seeing how the oil from the basin ranges from API 27° to 48° I don't think that you will find a single number.
Typically producers have a contract with the refineries to which they sell, specifying a grade range of their product (largely based upon API viscosity and sulfur content) and a price (typically a percentage of a benchmark oil). For example, you might be paid 80% of the price of West Texas Intermediate, or some such number.
If I had to guess, I would bet that the Williston Basin oils are sold under a variety of grades and contracts. It is usually not too easy to get the exact terms of such contracts from public sources.

Is our government keeping gas prices up for any good reason? Question: I checked this on Snopes and it said it is partly true.
Ever heard of the Bakken Formation?
GOOGLE it or follow this link. It will blow your mind. Http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
The U.S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that only scientists and oilmen knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota; western South Dakota; and extreme eastern Montana ... Check THIS out:
The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable.. At $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion.
'When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.' says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature's financial analyst.
'This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years,' reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.' And it stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada . For years, U.S.oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves... And we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!
That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 41 years straight.
[And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from TWO YEARS AGO, people!]

Where can I buy a cultured marble pre-fabricated clothes washer overflow floor basin with a drain? Question: I am pretty sure that I have seen them before but I am having a heck of a time finding one on-line. I have checked Home Depot and Lowe's on line and can not find one. I want one that is long enough and wide enough to put both the washer and dryer in. And, it needs to have a hole in the center for a floor drain. I live in Livingston, Montana but any supplier in Salt Lake City or Ogden, Utah would work. As well as anywhere along I-15 Northbound including Pocatello and Idaho Falls, Idaho, Butte and Bozeman, Montana. Thanks.
Answer:
I ve seen lots of the pans you want but never in a cultured marble.. I ve seen many in the hard plastic but not one that d fit both washer and dryer.. If you ve run out of places to look you can tile it to fit your needs.. Using the rubber membrane and proper drain and curb system.. It s not hard to do at all because you do it just like a shower pan (which it basically is).. I ve tile many over the last 20 years for people who want a washer / dryer on the 2 nd floor GL
PS you ll only get a cultured marble from a dealer that actully makes them in their shop.. That s where I d always get my thresholds and sill from. Look around for cultured marble jacuzzi s they may do something like that also.. Check cost also , it may be a lot cheaped to tile or stick to the plastic pan

As my last question sinks into the Sunset. Who ??? would have thought that 94% of YA would be clueless About? Question: WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE ARMED FORCES.
California leads the entire United States in Military personel.
Check out the Demographics. It's free and only a clivk away.
The South strong with military has backed off since 911. With the exception of Miss The South did not seem to mind 911
Montana leads in the percapita With Alaska comming in second.
Washington DC is last. They seem to be fed up with Government.
The Mississippi River Basin is the most consistant supporters of the Armed Forces.
And those liberal San Diego surfers have lost more friends and family members in Iraq than any other City, County, and most States.

There are several reports on who and what is in the Armed Forces.
Obviously some are bias to some cause; but most are easy to sort through.
And as for the Texas statement Yes West Texas is highly represented. Most of the Cowboy areas seem to send more than their share.
But CA with that 35 million population leads all of America in the totals.
Plus Most bases of any State believe it or not CA is the military heart land.
Answer:
I was considering actually writing an angry letter over your last question. I'm a liberal Californian considering military.
I decided against it because... well... I'd be whining.
But where did you get this list?
And by the way, by pulling out hte rug from under those loosers in your last question I respect you a little more. Anyway good luck!

We are NOT out of oil, its a lie? Question: It's the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska's Prudhoe Bay and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, Montana is looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion.

And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!
That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 41 years straight.
To America, this discovery couldn't have come at a better time. You see, when all the wells are finally drilled and pumping, we won't have to import any foreign oil from the Middle East. Not a single drop!
For investors like you and me, it offers a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance to profit on ever-rising demand for oil. And we can do it by getting in on the groundfloor of the next great oil boom...
Even the US Government has confirmed the Bakken as a huge oil formation. The government's own Energy Information Administration (EIA) issued this press release:
"...with new drilling and completion technology taken into account, the resource base for the entire formation is potentially much larger. A study provides estimates ranging up to 503 billion barrels of potential resources in place."
Oil in the Bakken isn't gritty, dirty and expensive like the Alberta oil sands.
We're talking light, sweet crude oil - the least expensive and easiest to refine oil out there.
And here's the kicker...
Montana lawmakers recently passed a bill that creates an 18-month tax holiday for oil wells drilled and completed in this area.
This legislation has caused a massive increase in exploration and has blown the top off this hidden ocean of oil.
Since this bill was passed, a small group of investors have been taking advantage of this untapped resource and are making thousands of dollars each month.
"It's a good, old fashioned oil boom," says Dr. Paul Polzin, a University of Montana economist.
One company has been there since the beginning of the Bakken boom... and is already selling its oil to the market. And the best part about it - this company is sharing its Bakken profits with everyday investors.
You see, for the past seven years, this company has distributed its net profits in the form of MONTHLY cash payments. They have sent their shareholders profit-sharing checks for 84 months in a row... and the check amounts are on the rise.
Mark my words, an opportunity like this only comes around once every so often and I can GUARANTEE that this will not remain a secret for much longer.
In fact, some of the local media are beginning to report on it...
"People in the region 'are just starting to see the potential' in this new oil play" - Grand Forks Herald, Nov. 4, 2007
"The huge potential of the Bakken play has industry and government officials gushing with superlatives." -CanWest News Service, Dec. 10, 2007

Spread the word every way you can. Let the world know the jig is up!!!!
Answer:
The real story however is not in light sweet crude. We have plenty of that and could use that to break OPEC's price fixing and end these high oil prices.
However, the really big thing is something called heavy distillates. Most of the world's oil is in the form of heavy distillates. And most of it is withing the continental borders of the US. Current technology would allow us to bring it to market for a fraction of what we pay now. We have roughly a 500 year supply at current use and the environmental impact of harvesting it is basically zero. Shell Oil is foaming at the lips to go after that oil and make the US completely energy independent (for an insane amount of profit, lol).
So....what's stopping them? Congress won't give them persmission, that's what.

there was another question about this... i just copied and pasted.
is it true????
Answer:
True, but overblown just a bit. The potential for that amount is there, but it's in oil shale, which takes a lot of technology to extract. Recoverable oil is estimated far lower but still the largest oil discovery in the lower 48.
But if the tech improves, who knows what the potential is.
North Dakota will have a huge surplus in its state coffers this year, that's for sure.

They reported this stunning news: we have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.
Here are the official estimates:
-8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
-18-times as much oil as Iraq
-21-times as much oil as Kuwait
-22-times as much oil as Iran
-500-times as much oil as Yemen- and it's all right here in the Western United States.
[HOW can this BE!? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this!? Because we've not DEMANDED Legislation to come out of Washington allowing its extraction, that's why!]
James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 trillion barrels. Untapped. That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post.
---
Don't think 'Big Oil' will drop its price - even with this find? Think again! It's all about the competitive marketplace, and if they can extract it (here) for less, they can afford to sell it for less - and if they DON'T, others will. It will come down - it has to.
---
[Got your attention/ire up yet? Hope so! Now, while you're thinking about it... and hopefully P.O'd, do this:
3. Take 5-10 minutes and compose an e-mail; fax or good old-fashioned letter to our elected officials in Washington.. and their respected leaders. We'll start with them, and here how you can send them your e-mail/fax, DEMANDING the immediate Legislation/ an Energy PLAN that calls for tapping into these (OUR OWN!) Reserves, as well as allowing for the offshore drilling for OUR oil, in OUR offshore waters and Inter-continental shelf... not to mention Alaska.
Technology ain't what it used to be people (ever had arthroscopic surgery?).
They can surgically extract YOUR oil, and get us on the way to at least some measure of Energy independence.
If you don't take a little time to do this, then you should stifle yourself the next time you want to compain about gas prices... because by doing NOTHING, you've forfeited your right to complain.
Answer:
The oil shale deposits have been know for years, but you are correct the latest studies are making it more viable to extract, environmental groups have hindered drilling in the area like they have in ANWR, with the cost of fuel at the price it is the chances of further exploration in these areas is becoming more likely, there is another source of oil that the oil companies do not talk about, for many years wells were drilled all over the nation and proved not to produce a sufficient amount to warrant the continued production because of the low cost, those wells can now be readily accessed with out new drilling just by removing the cement plugs that were installed in the years when the price did not permit them to pursue the oil.~

fact that democrats and 'liberal' republicans have been and will continue to obstruct all plans to make

of you sent this to every one in your address book. & nbsp;
Answer:
Great question. I have heard of Bakken and if people knew how much oil we have, they would be shocked. Why not drill? EDIT Amanda S did you actually go research the usgs link, or did you do your research on snopes? Lol.
|
Do you think we should start drilling now? Question: HAVE JUST FINISHED LOOKING THIS UP ON SNOPES AND READING EVERY BIT.
IN FACT, I PRINTED IT ALL OUT. ABSOLUTELY MIND BOGGLING. I HAVEN'T
CLOSED MY MOUTH YET. ANYBODY WHO HAS TIME TO READ IT ALL, WILL BE HIGHLY INFORMED..........
AND REMEMBER, THE GOVERNMENT HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR EONS..........BLESS
THEIR LITTLE COTTON-PICKIN' HEARTS. THEY AREN'T OUR BEST FRIEND.
I just googled this and its true.
Ever heard of the Bakken Formation?
GOOGLE it or follow this link. It will blow your mind.
http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
The U.S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that
only scientists and oilmen knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota ; western South Dakota ; and extreme eastern Montana .... Check THIS out:
The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's
Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at
503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... At $107
a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion..
'When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.' says Terry Johnson, the
Montana Legislature's financial analyst.
'This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years,' reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a
formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.' And it stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada . For years, U.S.oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological break through has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves... And we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!
That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 41 years straight.
2. [And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one
should - because it's from TWO YEARS AGO, people!]
U.S.Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World!
Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006 Hidden 1,000 feet beneath
the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve
in the world is more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction.
They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our
borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth. Here are the
official estimates:
-8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
-18-times as much oil a S Iraq
-21-times as much oil as Kuwait
-22-times as much oil as Iran
-500-times as much oil as Yemen- and it's all right here in the
Western United States .
HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this!? Because the democrats, environmentalists and left wing republicans have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil.
James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2
TRILLION barrels. Untapped. That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post.
----
Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find?
Think again! It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has to..
Anarking: People like yourself are always complaining about the deficit, maybe this is a way out.

I just wonder why Dubya didnt get this email many years before you did.
He thought it was a better idea to invade another country to try and take their oil, why didnt anyone tell him to drill here 8-0 YEARS AGO?
Its all a buncha BS. We dont need to continue relying on oil unless we think millionaires should make more money.

Grammar Check please? (It's not to long...)? Question: Native American Group Name: Shoshone Indians (Also known as the Snake Nation)
Culture: In the culture of the Shoshone Indians, all Shoshone men and women must cut their hair at the neck in a show of mourning. The Shoshone Indians have a rich culture to teach their children the history, language, and values of their ancestors. Every two years, the Shoshone Indians elected a new leader for the tribe. The Shoshones also hold cultural ceremonies, very similar to dances.
.
Clothing: It was a culture that Shoshone clothing changed with the seasons, ranging from a simple a Breechcloth held on by a belt fastened around the waist for the men and aprons for the women to rabbit fur pants and jackets, and larger animal hides used as capes and coverings. The Shoshone indians wore clothing made of deer hides, and in very cold weather they wore robes made of buffalo.
Language: The Shoshonians spoke a language today called, Shoshoni. It is a Uto-Aztecan language of the western plateau. Shoshone is spoken across such a broad geographical region that it forms a 'dialect chain'--speakers of one Shoshone dialect can always understand the dialects of their neighbors, but not necessarily a more distant dialect. Taken together there are more than a thousand speakers of Shoshone dialects, which are still being learned by children today.
Art: Shoshone beadwork is well known on the contemporary powwow circuit, but the talents of numerous Shoshone artisans also includes basketry, games and toys, tools and weapons, hide paintings, and parfleche envelopes. As in all cultures, their art reflected their environment and the contacts they had with other cultures. Thus, art forms, materials, colors, patterns, etc., all changed and developed over time.
Food: The Shoshone diet included groundhog, jack rabbit, and other small mammals. Sometimes they had bird eggs. They used over 100 different types of seeds and plants. After the Shoshone got horses, they began hunting large game, such as deer, antelope, mountain sheep and bears. Because of horses they could go further to dig camas and other roots. The Shoshone-Bannock almost hunted the southeastern-Idaho bison to the point of extinction. When they ran out of bison in Idaho, they went to Wyoming and Montana to hunt bison. The Shoshone hunted mostly in the spring and the summer. Women gathered berries, roots, nuts, seeds, and insects. The men hunted for deer, squirrels, antelope, rabbits and water birds. When they hunted antelope and rabbits, they would surround the animals and herd them into nets to kill them. The Shoshone used snares and spring-pole traps, and pitfalls to trap animals. They used wooden and horn-bow and arrows to kill larger animals. Their arrows were made of obsidian.
Religion: The basis of the Shoshone religion was a belief in dreams, visions, and a Creator; and fostered individual self-reliance, courage, and the wisdom to meet life's problems in a difficult environment. Most of the Shoshone ceremonies are dances similar to the Great Basin Round Dances. The Bannocks shared the warfare practices of the Plains Indians, which included counting coups and taking scalps of enemies. They adopted the Scalp Dance from the plains tribes and during the reservation period began dancing the Sun Dance. Today the Sun Dance, a very important event especially to the Shoshone tribes of today, is held each summer.
Terrain: The Shoshone occupied what is today know as the states of California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming, although most of them seemed to be settled in the Snake river area in Idaho. Historical documents from the Lewis & Clark expedition often refer to the Shoshone as the "Snake Indians"; the actual name "Shoshone" means "The Valley People" . The name means “inland”, or "in the valley". The terrain varied, but it went from high snow covered mountains in the northern Rockies, up to the flat land and valleys, where herds of buffalo's awaited their extinction. It was typically rainy, making the soil more fertile, but still, flat.

I recently wrote an introduction on a story, it also has the ending and a bit of the body. Good or No? Question: Love is a many-sided thing. It has been written about in thousands of poems over many lifetimes of years. It has been dramatized for several hundred. And it has been known to me for the past 17 years of my life. I live with my mom and my dad and my younger brother. My parents love each other and love my brother and I too. I have never fallen in love, though. I have always hoped for summer flings. And dreamt of a romance with the new kid. Yet, hopes and dreams are fantasy. Jimmy was reality, and that is the most painful thing to realize, even out of everything that has happened. I’ve lived in the same house for my whole life. I’ve gone to school with my classmates since I was in preschool. Nobody has really changed since preschool. Everyone got taller and lost their baby fat, and went through puberty, but, no one has really changed. Everyone is pretty mainstream, nothing out of the ordinary, except for a handful of goths, sorry, "emos.” Anyone who is considered as anyone wears Hollister, or one of those popular brands. I am not included in that statement because I wear what I feel like. I am pretty independent, at least that’s how I view myself. The only interesting person in this town is Jimmy. He lit up my life, yet that’s extremely ironic when you find out what he is. Jimmy is a… Wait, I won’t ruin it for you. You’ll find out soon enough. Jimmy left for summer a normal varsity football, track star, varsity everything, Jock. But when he cam back from his Uncle’s ranch in Montana, he was completely different. It wasn’t that he dressed differently or had gotten multiple piercing or anything. It was that he changed his personality. He dumped his girlfriend, head cheerleader, blah blah blah the second he saw her on the school campus. She made quite a scene, and he just didn’t care. He told me that he was chosen to branch out the coven into our area because there was a lot of activity there lately. He told me he was chosen to be the king of the coven and was given the task of finding a queen and starting a new coven in our home town. Vampires are changed in a sacred basin filled with the tears of Ariadne, the first vampire ever created by God. Vampires are not evil, they do not drink blood, they only are protectors of the mortal, the weak, and the otherworldly. The word vampire is from the first language, Ariadne’s native tongue, Vimpur. It means awakened, or known. You see, her tears dissolve the cloud over every mortals eyes which prevents them from seeing in the true way. They see the other worlds, where they start and end and what is in those worlds. Vampires were created to protect the mortal from the other worlds Satanic evils. He took my hand and led me to the front of the table which was in the center of the room. “Will you join me as my queen, be queen to the rest of our coven, and will you promise to always be my companion and partner ruler?” He gave this as the heaviest burden I would ever encounter. I could say no, yet I could also say yes. “My fellow ruler, leader, and love, yes, I will accept this burden as a joy and follow it forever.” I replied. As I took his hand and sat in my “throne,” the whole coven bowed before us. Jimmy and I, and our coven, would protect the world and live out our destiny throughout.
Ok. Thanks for you opinions and ideas. Please don't steal my work, I spent a lot of time developing what I have now.
Also, I would like to know what kind of names you think I will list my ideas here.
Both are 17, they were born in 1991 in January and August, both on the 27th. I will post more when I write it or decide it or figure it out.

Ok, here's the summary. Girl comes back to senior year of school and this guy she has always admired is different but she doesn't know how because its not appearance wise, its just aura and personality. Being a jock no longer matters to him because he has been changed into a vampire, yet he doesn't drink blood or kill innocents, he protects them. He is going to start his own coven and he has to choose a queen. He chooses main character. They start a coven together and protect the innocents.
Answer:
I didn't really read on past the 1st 3 sentences. You started out boring, that'll lose the reader. Also, it is open for plagiarism, whether you ask people not to steal it or not. Somebody could take the idea, get published, and that's that.
As for the name, just go with them. I read somewhere saying "You can name your character Craig, but if a reader was just left at the alter by "Craig" you've lost a reader. But move on"
