Hawk Point is located at 38°58′16″N 91°8′2″W / 38.97111, -91.13389 (38.971207, -91.133888).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 459 people, 186 households, and 119 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,820.8 people per square mile (708.9/km²). There were 208 housing units at an average density of 825.1/sq mi (321.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.82% White, 0.44% Asian, and 1.74% from two or more races.
There were 186 households out of which 39.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% were married couples living together, 15.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% were non-families. 32.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.04.
