City DescriptionGainesville is a city in Ozark County, Missouri, United States. The population was 632 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Ozark County.
Gainesville is located at 36°36′13″N 92°25′51″W / 36.60361, -92.43083 (36.603520, -92.430709). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.8 km² (2.6 mi²), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 632 people, 294 households, and 176 families residing in the city. The population density was 92.4/km² (239.3/mi²). There were 339 housing units at an average density of 49.6/km² (128.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.73% White, 0.16% African American, 0.47% Native American, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.90% of the population.
There were 294 households out of which 25.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. 37.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.86.
