City DescriptionWeir is a town in Choctaw County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 553 at the 2000 census.
Weir is located at 33°15′48″N 89°17′22″W / 33.26333, -89.28944 (33.263423, -89.289439), along the Yockanookany River.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.7 km²), of which, 1.0 square miles (2.7 km²) of it is land and 0.94% is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 553 people, 208 households, and 149 families residing in the town. The population density was 526.5 people per square mile (203.3/km²). There were 234 housing units at an average density of 222.8/sq mi (86.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 45.21% White, 53.71% African American, 0.90% Native American, 0.18% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.18% of the population.
There were 208 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 22.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
