City DescriptionVardaman is a town in Calhoun County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,065 at the 2000 census.
Vardaman is located at 33°52′47″N 89°10′37″W / 33.87972, -89.17694 (33.879834, -89.176929).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²), all of it land.
Vardaman is located in Calhoun county, one of Mississippi's top five sweet potato producing counties. The National Sweet Potato Festival is held there annually the entire first week in November. Vardaman proclaims itself as "The Sweet Potato Capitol of the World".
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,065 people, 426 households, and 276 families residing in the town. The population density was 785.3 people per square mile (302.4/km²). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 347.3/sq mi (133.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 58.69% White, 33.90% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 6.38% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.77% of the population.
